First off batteries connected in series only increases the voltage, example 6v in series with another 6v would give you 12volts. Sadly the AH rating doesn't double. So if you series connect 2 6v 100 ah batteries battery you end up with 12volts but only 100 ah. To increase ah you need to parallel 2 12v 100ah batteries then you get 12v 200 ah. Just remember series 2 6v increases voltage only, parallel 2 or more 12v voltage stays 12v but ah double. This is found all over the internet if you doubt this issue. All the rest about this video is spot on. Also always use same voltage, brand, ah no matter if in series or parallel connect.
LOL.. friend, I do this for a living, I’m well aware of the difference between series and parallel. The fitment difference, which I think most people understood, is that they sell tall 225 amp hour 6 V batteries, commonly called golf cart batteries. You are able to series 2 of them for your 12 V, and achieve 225 amp hours capacity with less foot print, allowing them to sit in the common trays made for batteries on campers. Sorry for the confusion 🤷♂️
Thanks for this video. Gave me a great idea for my new Yeti 1000x and my Scamp Trailer. This will be a great back up to the new LiTime 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery I just added to the Scamp. Can you tell me what cut-off switch you are using here please. I'll be hooking up solar also as I work for a solar company and have access to free panels used or slightly damaged. THANKS again.
I think it's funny how people cover their license plate so nobody can see it. When you drive that truck down the road do you think anybody sees that plate?
I'm personally looking into a Deep cycle GC2 6volt golf cart batteries wired in series. I have a 2024 Salem FSK178bhs. It has a 30amp solar charge controller with a solar panel. Plus it has a factory convertor . This is all on a single group 24 deep cycle battery currently. Just looking to increase capacity.
we discuss that in the video right? 130# The on tongue, 1300 trailer weight stock. Draw bar with rise that levels trailer. All and all, this Tesla isn’t designed to tow like this. It was something that he wanted to do and feels like he travels safely and inexpensively as a home on wheels.
Thank You Everybody for supporting Electric Vehicles and for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤
There is a huge difference between different types of gaming, I would have to know more. Do you have a high power laptop that you’re playing on ? Or is it the latest PlayStation and a big screen TV? How many hours? With these questions, I should be able to help you find a power station that will work for you . Thanks for tuning in!
@DIYOutdoorLife Currently I just play my series X Xbox on a 32" flat scene. I like that it is super portable, that way I can store it in different places if needed. I just want to be sure I get one strong enough to play for 3 to 5 hours.
Yes, I made it through the whole video. Great perspective! I'm learning through videos like yours! You do a great job explaining WHAT we need to know about Lithium batteries. I have a2024 Rockwood 2516s with 400w of GoPower solar and (2) deep cycle lead acid flooded batteries. I am definitely upgrading my batteries to lithium as we want to do more boon docking and the flooded cells are not a good insurance policy. We have hauled our 2020 Lance 1985 and this 2516 for over 33,000 miles combined but with the 2516 and a 12V fridge we are much more limited going off grid. The Lance had a propane fridge and we could easily go dry camping for 3-4 days. I want to go with your recommendation of a single, heated 200+Ah battery w/BMS as we like to cold camp (Lance was a 4 season). What would be your battery recommendation that will fit in my 21 3/8" long Camco battery box? Thanks for all your expertise!
Thank you for watching. I will link a video that I did on the battery that I recommend, in that video description there are links with promo codes to save money. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yWnqnuusz2g.htmlfeature=shared
Do you have videos to calculate what you need if you have 2 freezer type fridges, an induction 2 burner cooktop, tankless water heater,a 1200 w microwave, an air fryer and heater/AC unit and electric kettle, mixer, lighting, 2 phones ans 2 computers? Several can be functioning at the same time too. I can't figure out how to work from the applianes level up to the system level.
Working from the loads, by tallying appliances and their duration is the proper way to do it. It’s how we determine the size of our battery bank, chargers and inverters. In your situation, you’ve basically listed every single device that we tell people to avoid off grid. Because batteries are so expensive, along with the gear to allow you to run some of the listed devices, we typically get as much on gas as possible. Although I have built several systems that run the appliances you mentioned, you’re looking at > $25,000 as a starting point. For folks moving into their camper, it can be a worthwhile investment. Going with a gas powered generator he’s going to be the easier and far cheaper option for others. Hope this helps, I’m happy to continue the conversation if you have more questions
Thanks! You have helped me so much. I have issues with my flooded batteries going dead in storage after a couple weeks. I’ve installed your disconnect switch and a solar maintainer. After watching this video I think I know why I am having trouble with my tow vehicle system. I had a power wire ran for the van to the 7 pin connector to charge tt batteries and I am having issues with the van battery going bad and my AC in the van ramping down in hot weather.
Great video, DIY Outdoor Life. Looking forward to seeing more content from you. I smashed the thumbs up button on your upload. Keep up the awesome work! Your insights on the off-grid capabilities of the A-liner Ranger 10 were especially helpful. Have you considered any additional upgrades to enhance its functionality while camping in more remote areas?
I'm a camper and I have a single 24 volt lithium battery just to be able to power the outlets in my fifth wheel trailer for TV and phone charging overnight. I have my eye on a 30 amp 12/24 volt charge controller. Just wondering if this 220W solar panel would work for my needs. Thanks!
Brian, how do I hook this up if my camper does not have a automotive style socket? Can I run a dual sided male 110v extension cord with one end plugged into the power station and the other my trailer outlet? Thx! Great idea!
That’s not a good idea, big time shock hazard and you don’t gain all the efficiency benefits from being on DC. Does your camper not have an DC outlets? I would add one if it doesn’t
I want to say you made this really interesting. By adding two batteries and wiring them together that doubles the capacity? This whole solar thing , I thought was difficult. Thanks
Correct, if you wire them together in parallel ( + to +) It doubles the capacity. If you wire them in series ( + to -) The capacity remains the same but the voltage doubles
Seeing these little A-Line campers at RV lots along the highway was how I got the notion to go looking to see what variety of tiny campers were available. Cute pop-up!
Excellent video, one of the better ones I’ve seen. Two questions, how much for your model with the upgrades and would I be able to strap a 12’9” Hobie kayak on that roof rack with the max air fan for my trips to the gulf? Thanks.
Yes you can strap a kayak up top. I want a little ham with the extras, some of which I didn’t show in the review. It’s easy to get in the high 20s when you deck out an MRXL with tons of add ons.
Just came across your channel and thought it was great. I have a question for you. I have the GZ 1500X. In addition to the 1500, For extra power would you recommend a GZ 500X or the 1000 Core TIA Frank
Just bought one for my Camper! I use a delta max 2 - what adapters/cables would recommend to connect it to my efoflow? I’m a solar rookie. Great video!
My delta two max came with the adapter. It is an XT 60i to mc4. If you did not get one or misplaced it, I will link on here- amzn.to/3BeRI2N Here’s an extension cord in different sizes if you need it - amzn.to/3TENCav
I have a lot of experience with the propex but I went with the truma. I’ve been very happy with the decision, but I don’t think I could’ve gone wrong either way, both great tiny camper furnaces!
As a teen, my dad was in the CCCs. It was also a way formthe Fed. Govt. to teach young men how to work in groups which became useful with the upcoming WWll.
@@DIYOutdoorLife I just had to replace mine last week. I feel comfortable we this hook up. We have 2 A/C’s and it gets hot in Texas. Great video thanks for posting it so people can see
fantastic video, along with the rest. I had most things work pretty straight forward for me. Although I realized my water heater was mounted a bit lower than typical and had to move it up about an half an inch to an inch, doing so gave me the bottom clearance I needed. I am struggling to get the quick disconnect on the water side to work as I want. The parts list to get the 1lb bottles to work is great, but what seems odd to me is the 3/8 to 1/2 adapter that I expected to bridge a standard propane cable (I want to mod a propane hose so I can use either 1 or 11lb) is clearly not exactly the same as the standard propane connection. Not sure if it's just a "taper" issue, but all part of the education process and somehow, through trial and error, I'm clearly ending up with PLENTY of "extra" QD fittings of various sizes that just didn't make the cut, lol. Keep up the great work and if you've got a suggestion for modding a propane hose to swap out with the 1lb bottles, I'm all ears, Cheers!@
Ahhh yesss… I have been in the same place. A lot of times there’s several types of half inch threaded fittings. The male flare fitting is the right one. The trial and error left me with a large bag of extras… lol
Persistence (along with trial and error) are all part of the path to eventual success. Yesterday I found myself walking into two different hardware stores with a "bag of mistakes and misery"...at least that's what I called the random collection of hoses and fittings I was trying to make work, lol. Second store, third customer service rep ( they had to dig deep into their bench) a kindly gentleman who looked like he may have helped Noah on the ark found the correct connector...turns out the 3/8 FLR x 1/2 MIP was the answer to all my problems, just like you pointed out. For others in need, I'm sure a quick search with those parameters will work. Cheers and thanks for the info and encouragement.
Where is my tour!! Just kidding. One thing she probably doesn't realize, is if she connected to city water it automatically fills up the hot water tank first when it gets pressurized. So she's likely traveling with 8 gallons of water in that tank. Ask me how I know.
Yikes.. great tip. Come visit us at one of these gatherings and we’ll do a tour! I’m gonna be really busy now for a couple weeks, I’m gonna try to get back to you on the battery vid. Sorry for delay.
We have owned the 2023 Forest River Flagstaff T12RBST model since 03/3023. We did incur troubling shakedown issues that Paso Robles (California) Sky River RV resolved under warranty. No questions asked. Aces to them in that regard. This unit is a perfect amalgamation of the 4 other TT's we've owned over the past 20 years. It has the amenities we value while leaving out others that we do not need at this particular point in our lives, i.e., a stand alone restroom/shower space. It has an outdoor shower (if ever needed). It came with a porta-potty that we've yet to use because we just use the facilities of the State/National parks we frequent. The fact that it fits in our garage in a HOA restrictive subdivision was the absolute kicker. We tow it with 2 different rigs but just to let everyone know their tow vehicle options, the smallest vehicle is a 2020 Honda Passport Elite AWD with the added on OEM tow pkg & transmission cooler. Can easily tow 5K lbs. I designed this combo as a perfect sized fit for the two. It tows perfectly. Mountainous areas are not a hindrance. Our 2023 Forest River Flagstaff T12RBST is a campground discussion starter. Sometimes, too much so. We want to relax while others want to routinely stop by to ask about our unit. We always kindly oblige. My end point being, she's a looker that people want to know more about. We understand because that is why we bought it (when we could have bought any trailer we wanted within our total tow vehicle specs). Happy camping to all!
Did she just give her camper pronouns? smh Anyway. I like the Aliners but the A/C unit is in a horrible spot jutting out on the side and next to the only door where you typically sit.
lol I agree that the spot is awkward, but at least the air conditioner works. With a lot of these tiny campers, we’re seeing an installation method the starves them of air and renders them useless… Nice to actually see one blowing cold air… lol
Your videos have been so helpful in many ways. I am stuck however on knowing what adaptor will allow me to connect my Bluetti b300s to Goal Zero Boulder 200. I thought you spoke about it on a video but can’t find it. Are you able to recommend what adapter works?
@@DIYOutdoorLifeGreat, thank you. What are your thoughts on using a cable with an Anderson plug on one side and an xt60 on the other? The Bluetti port is an xt60.
Thank you for the recommendation. I got the wires but my Goal Zero is not recognizing my Bluetti b300s. Any thoughts on why? (Bluetti is charged to 80%)
It would not be the Goal zero solar that recognizes, the solar panel will output, but the b300 must accept the charge. My understanding is that the B300 expansion batter can accept solar directly - 60v max. A boulder 200 is way under 60 V and should work well. Have you tested the B300 with other solar?
Yeh, not only do I get to be the first to comment, but the video is my type of camper--the Aliner. I have the Classic, a little bigger, but very similar. So my only comments are that I love my hard-sided "tent" and I really appreciate all the things I have learned from this youtube channel, especially about solar. You rock!
