Please give me some much needed good news guys. Are you all still playing? This song came up at just the right time this week and I remember how it kept me going years ago. Even if you aren't, thanks.
Hi mate! Yeah, it was April 2020 and the world was in lockdown. I desperately wanted to hire a friend to play some extra textural guitar parts and perform live next to me, but given government guidelines I decided to simply put a few on click track. I did the same with the 9 synth parts, and female backing vocals, which was actually my wife, but she couldn't sing live with me because she needed to hold the camera to film me doing my bit live, because it was lockdown, and I couldn't hire anyone to come to studio and film me, because of government guidelines. The guitar solo is all 100% live though, as I am wearing an in ear monitoring system, and a wireless radio pack for the guitar input. Thanks for watching though, and I hope you are spreading joy throughout the world, as you sound like one of life's gooduns. Big love, The Leaf People ( nearly live)
What a great cover. Funny because the music is top notch yet the kids really steal the show with their bouncing around and big smiles. This was a delightful discovery and what a treasure for all involved to keep as part of their family and friendship history. Well done everyone involved.
But the movie... good lord it's awesome. Virginia Madsen is just so gorgeous and plays her part so well. The story is just so sweet. good watch for any fan of 80s movies.
They're on track, programmed beforehand - running click track from Logic - just like U2 and Coldplay do. Surprised you didn't point out the female vocals as well- they're done by my wife, again, beforehand, as she had to film me ( lockdown you see, couldn't employ film crew to come round, rozzers would have arrested me) and she couldn't do both at the same time. Apart from that we're bang to rights. Can I ask, as a child, did you blow out the candles on other kids' cakes?
All our actors singing along to this version in lockdown is still one of the highlights of the pandemic. We're the same company that did the stage play about the Post Office Scandal in 2022 - thats all coming out now eh...
I just discovered your video a day or two ago, and I honestly can't tell you how many times I've watched it already. I'm not a frequent RU-vid commenter, but your version is far superior to the original. I have always loved this song. Philip Oakey himself doesn't think much of it from what I've read. His vocals are fine, but he didn't put nearly as much heart and soul into it as you've done here. There's a sincerity here that the original lacks. This video makes me ridiculously happy, and you should all be very proud.
there you are...rocking it and hitting that sweet spot which, like a time machine, zaps you back to the 80s - you are feeling it so strongly even to the point that your mind is registering the smell of your dads aftershave wafting by. And you are living this dream with your very best friends, the exact people you practiced being a band with in the garage/parents basement/attic/treehouse/whereever. Then your wife and kids come in the room... you get a call from your neighbour etc etc. Ah well 😆
