Thanks for making this video. We’re planning this route for the late spring as well. I wasn’t sure I would last the whole 43 minutes, but it went by so fast! Very entertaining and informative. Even if you’re not posting, I hope you’re still out there riding :)
So...This course is not accessible for Recumbent Trikes.. single track trails / entry ways discriminates against anyone who cannot ride a traditional bicycle.. Another waste of time for the Recumbent Trike riders..

It was great to follow along on your journey. What day did you start? I started 5/31/21, and was following Lael Wilcox's and Jan Heine's (wide and slick) tire tracks the whole way. It was really hot, and I didn't bring enough water capacity. 🥵
That museum in Ft. Rock is really neat. It's comprised of homestead houses and buildings/businesses from around Oregon and you can go into all of them and learn about the folks that used to live in them. Thanks for posting your ride!

After finish, I rode to Wishram (~17 miles), camped one night there and took Amtrak to Portland in the morning. The ride to Wishram was not good with little or no shoulders going up I-97 with lots of cars. More importantly, the Amtrak train to Portland does NOT take bikes. I didn't know this when I booked ticket and I had to beg and beg to let me get on with bike in the morning. Once I got to Portland, I took another Amtrak to Klamath Falls. That train does take bikes as long as you have reservation for bike which is very limited. I would not recommend what I did. It was the most stress part of the whole trip for me.
Next time, start in Pendleton and ride south thru Ukiah, John Day, Burns, French Glen….to Denio. That’ll give you a taste of Oregons Outback. (East of this route is “true Outback of America”!!)
I'm glad to see someone smart enough to wear light colored clothing in the summer sun. You would have been in real trouble if you had worn black like so many roadies on RU-vid do. BTW, do NOT drink your own pee -- that makes it much worse.
Awesome experience. You were fortunate to have ridden this before the bootleg fire ravaged the first day of this ride. Brian, can you tell us how much water carrying capacity you had on this trip? And since you ran out, how much would you take if you did it again?
Hi Cody, I had a 64 oz Klean Kanteen and 24 oz water bottle. In retrospect, just having one more 24 oz water bottle would have been enough for me specially that one day where I ran out. Having said that, I don't drink that much in general so maybe 2 x 64 oz. with 1 water bottle for easy access would be more comfortable/safe for people. Also the week that I went was not too hot.
Very nicely done! I’ve watched a number of bikepacking and bike touring videos and I appreciate your conversational style and honesty along the way. It felt like going on a ride with a friend. I’m old enough to remember that Antelope, Oregon was very often in the national and international news in the mid-80’s as there was a city that was built out of a ranch there and was populated by something like 10,000 people. It was essentially a commune of young people from all over who were devoted to a popular guru from India. Long story short is that the leadership was corrupt and really threatened the locals and aroused fear and suspicion all over the state. They took over the town of Antelope and were attempting to do the same for the county. For elections they brought in homeless people from all over the country to vote for their candidates. The enterprise finally fell apart when there were federal indictments and infighting in the group. The city is now a church camp and Antelope returned to the locals.
Sorry to ask but how tall are you? I have a Salsa fargo with 29 “ wheel which are for taller people.And I have a rather short 5’6” frame and Iam debating if I should switch to 27.5 wheels.
Man, I found this video report is quite interesting. I enjoyed this video from the beginning to the final shot. It's great that you had a good weather all the tour, except wind. Thanks for made it shared for everyone. Next time save more water for such extreme legs that you had. Hope to see more adventures on this channel.

Nice video, so people can actually see what to expect. I did the Oregon Outback last year on a Fatbike, carrying a lot of food and up to 10l (22 pounds) of water. That was a lot of fun and a smooth ride on those fat tires. The fridge in Ashwood had just two Dr. Pepper left but that was enough to get me up that following long steep uphill. The headwind at the end before getting down to the Washington border was insane!
