In the guppy tub the Water hyacinth look like they need some nutrition. Maybe add a little aquarium fertilizer to water or some of the goldfish pond water.

Thanks for that. I'm wondering if it's too much direct sunlight.

@@mrdougs619 I have my water hyacinth plants in full sun because they make more flowers that way. But they need fertilizer to do well. They can be grown with their roots in soil like other potted plants as long as they are watered often.

I grow duckweed in another container or containers to feed to my goldfish and they leave my water lilies alone. I also try to pot up my lilies in large and wide containers to give their roots lots of room to grow. I also add a little sand to the pond bottom just to give the goldfish something to search through. Lovely looking pond! I get flowers every year from my lizard tail plants.

Over time, a pond undergoes a process called ecological succession. Bacteria and plants initially colonize the pond, breaking down organic matter and releasing nutrients for the plants. when the plants are happy, water is clear. Nice pond :)

Looks good! I add a handful of sand or two to my goldfish ponds just to give them something on the bottom to look through.

I grow duckweed in other containers to add to my goldfish ponds for them to eat. Lizard tail is one of the plants, what are the other two? Thanks. Also where are you located?

One is Pink Sprite but I don't remember the other taller grassy one. (If you touch the leaves its smells like black licorice.). I'm in Carlsbad, CA.

Before I finished listening to your entire video, may I compliment how beautifully humongous you kept your comets and shubunkins! Nice plump, strong confirmation around the contour and a spindle shaped body when viewed from the top. I never seen your videos but it's my first time!

Nice little ponds. I started out many years ago with an old bathtub and goldfish. Now I have many little ponds setup. Some just have tadpoles. Some have goldfish and some have small aquarium fish in the warm months and one has my first rice fish. I built some of the ponds and some I got from Tractor Supply and some are just plastic containers. I love my water lilies. I got my first baby goldfish this year.

@@mrdougs619 I do small water changes when needed but that is not very often. I am in south Louisiana and we can get a lot of rain, so that does some water changes from time to time or at least top ups. I do not over-crowd my ponds with fish and many of them have no filter other than a lot of plants.

Does your hibiscus plant emerge in the pond water? What type of hibiscus that? It looks great.
@mrdougs619
@mrdougs619 Месяц назад
The new growth emerged both below and above the waterline. (Mostly below or very close to the water line.) It's called Scarlet Rose Mallow or Swamp Hibiscus (Hibiscus coccineus). And thank you, I also think it's a great plant and have been amazed at how well it's grown. It flowered in September last year so I suspect the same this year; looking forward to that.

Since you are doing weekly water changes, I would say it is a tank. In all the pond videos I’ve watched, the owners don’t mention doing water changes. They stress the use of plants and the a bio filter to maintain water quality for the fish. Regardless of what you call it, it’s beautiful!
