With a passion for building and restoring Classics, Muscle cars, Hot Rods, custom cars and most other over the top automobiles, I decided to share some of the stuff I deal with and over come in the Classic car building community. This channel will be geared towards the process of restoring cars with tips and tricks while documenting certain builds so you can follow along with how I go about the process. Hopefully the Channel help motivate you along with helping coming up with a plan on the classic your trying to build or will entertain you and if nothing else to see these rusted out cars come back to life. If you watch this channel and realize the amount of work it takes to make one of these things come back to life and its not something you are willing to tackle it then at least some things learned here should help you in knowing what questions to ask your restoration shop and what to look for when you checkup on your hot rod.

@carthageclassiccars
@carthageclassiccars 2 дня назад
Honestly, it really is neither for the most part. The owner wants a Nova built a certain way to enjoy and it will not be close to stock. So not an SS or anything like that just a plain jane Nova about to be a pretty killer ride when complete.

Love you videos keeps me going on mine. Question is do you just epoxy the inner structures and inner 1/4s and leave it or do you paint with either body color or some other paint before welding on the 1/4s?
@carthageclassiccars
@carthageclassiccars 2 дня назад
You could really go the extra mile and paint / clear all the inner structure with the pieces off then just touch up the welded seam. I personally am not going to do that as I wasn't even sure if i was going to paint this car a few months ago. I will just trim out the car best I can with everything apart but at least I know if we do miss anything it is all sealed up.

Rick....great video as usual. Question....how would you take off the hood springs without taking off the hood? I thin k my springs are not holding up my hood. I believe the hinges are ok.
@carthageclassiccars
@carthageclassiccars 2 дня назад
I use washers and jam them in the spring you will need like 10 of them when the hinge is pulled open wider then when you let out the tension of opening the hood the washers will hold the spring wider letting the tension off it to be able to unhook it.

@carthageclassiccars

No its not necessary and I do use just the switch sometimes instead of the pedal. I feel the pedal helps control heat as its easy to vary amperage but also the speed you weld and how much filler you add also can be used as heat control.

When sanding filler my paper always plugs up as I'm just getting started. After I get a good scuff on it I can sand from there without the paper plugging up. How do I avoid the paper plugging up? I feel like I waste a piece of sandpaper just to get going.
@carthageclassiccars
@carthageclassiccars 4 дня назад
Use the sand paper you are about to throw out and keep it on the block or try the hacksaw blade to rough it up. Also when it clogs have to tried compressed air to blow it off. A lot of times you can blow it right off and the teeth on the sandpaper aren't hurt.

I might have missed it somewhere, but what's the advantage of mounting the body to the jig with the subframe in place? Getting to the point tearing down a 79 T/A and I'm contemplating taking the engine and subframe off as one piece. In my case, it seems like it will be a lot easier to handle. You 100% have sold me on jigging the car vs. the rotisserie. Keep up the good work brother. OIF 0/1
@carthageclassiccars

No advantage except I left it on so I know my JIG point wouldn't get in the way of the subframe. I will have the subframe reinstalled on this Jig. Also with my hoist it is actually easier for me to pull it off after its mounted. Thanks a lot and and appreciate your service .
