Guitar and gear reviews with some how to videos, Vlogging and music. I have over 9 years of experience working live shows with sound, lighting and stage management. Goal of this channel is to bring a little bit of everything to the table when it comes to music and have a lot of fun in the process. When it comes to guitar i been playing for over 15 years although I’m no shredder i love chugging and playing sick riffs.
I was just looking at the same guitar on AMS. I think I’m gonna go ahead on it after watching this video anything that might be a setback could be easily remedied since I do my own work also. Thanks for the video! It helped me make my decision. Also your guitar playing and your tone is incredible. That’s a big part of what sold this guitar to me! 👍🏻
For the price I just can't get past the fact it's an LTD, I know the build is solid but it just screams Epiphone, Squire of the ESP world, just spend a little more and get an ESP.
@@pjdexter168 i mea 5-600$ can make a big diff in someones budget and honestly ive olayed esp E II and there not that much better to justify the extra money beside paying for the fact that it says E ii on it. Comparing it to a Squier is a little much lol epiphone maybe since the epiphones nowadays are sometimes better then the gibsons QC wise
what type of sanding sealer did u use (waterbased)? ever poster part 3? im working on a guitar of mine and superGlue also is working great for me. cheers
I've got the same guitar. Dropped it, along with 4-5 other guitars at my tech's. The Mikro had a bad case of fret sprout. He took care of that. More sprout in just a few months. Definitely lots of moisture in the neck. Got a fret tool and have that handled. Added some Grover mini tuners, and it's a fun little rocker, but it's badly in need of a pickup upgrade. I might drop a JB in it and call it done! 👍
@@cedrix9105 i couldnt agree more i think if i bought the 7 string version i would have liked it more the amount i play 8s is way less so it was hard to overlook the small issues
@@SIX1NINEGUITARSANDGEAR Tbh I I’m searching for an alternative like the Ormsby Metal V Headless 7 string in Dahlia Black. In my eyes that’s the closest to the Spectre in terms of edginess (no pun intended).
I also own it and love it except it's the noisiest guitar that I own, I don't know if it's a defect or the Duncan pickups but it gets computer interferace noise like crazy compared to all my other guitars. love your video and story ! You can see the guitar here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TPKCshPq2eo.html
@@DanHovington hey dan ! I do love this guitar for sure i never had an issue with mine noise wise there could be a bad ground or maybe the pickups went microphonic. Awesome video ! Tone sounds great.
@@SIX1NINEGUITARSANDGEAR Thanks man ! I'll look into the mocrophonic thing. Playing through a small pratice amp it's ok but anywhere near my computer/recording setup and it goes nuts
Hey since you seem to know a lot about this model, I just got offered a deal for some Dimarzio's but they are F-Spaced, any idea if it would work for this model ?
@@DanHovington hmmm ok so i sometimes to get this interferance with my computer do the process of elimination turn off the monitor screen or take a few steps back see of it goes away.
@@DanHovington f space is a wider pole spacing better for Floyd roses and other trems or certain hardtail bridges. on this guitar with the tune o matic bridge and tail piece i would say there s space i mean if the alignments off a tad it wont be a huge deal but the strings that arnt directly over the pole piece on the pickup ull notice a weaker signal that guitar comes stock with the Duncan design HB-102’s
I got this guitar on a trade so didn’t have option of choosing color but the guitar was to nice to pass up plus i have alot of black guitars already haha
I’m stuck between this and the Jackson series x dinky, I found this same one for sale on FB and guy I willing to let it go for $250. The other is $599. Idk which I should get, I’m also learning how to play and am wondering how these are for new beginners. I kinda wanted something good that I can keep playing and not something cheap and then upgrade.
@@madisonboyd7992 i would go with this ibanez all the new Jackson’s just arnt what they use to be this is a great guitar as far as being a beginner the trem system is a learning curve but if you or someone else sets it up correctly its great. This guitar will get you through and you wouldnt feel the need to upgrade as you progress.
Really sweet guitar; best of luck with it! I never delved into active pups yet, but the Fishman's sound great. It's very impressive at such low tunings how articulate they are; you can really hear the difference in both voicings. I recently bought a 30" scale 6 string "Firefly" Baritone that I keep a bit of extra relief on the neck as well to minimize on buzzing. Like you said with your EC-407b, it just plays/feels better. It seems to me, larger gauge strings feel more forgiving mid-neck where the action raises under relief. I really don't notice the change in action playing up the neck.(I'm using the Ernie Ball 72-13's) Again, thanks for sharing Kenny 🤘
Nice preamp mod… sounds great man. Hey by any chance are you playing with heavier gauge strings? If so what size are they and how high do you have the low/high side of your neck/bridge pickups set to? I love this guitar. I purchased the very same one two years ago. Got rid of the stock strings and threw some PARADIGM NOT EVEN SLINKY 12-56 gauge strings on it and did my own proper setup for the change in string gauge. All I have to say is the guitar sounded beautiful when I brung it home…. But in drop C it sounds SOOO MUCH NICER!!! I have been thinking for a while now I wanna change the pickups out for something different. Just over all nicer quality pickups. And I’ve been giving some thought into changing the tuning pegs/machines as well. I don’t often have issues with my strings slipping too far out of tune… but they ones I want to put on the guitar with the price of pickups would bring the upgrade cost up to about a little more than half of what the guitar cost me. But if you could choose a different upgrade on this guitar other than the pickups… what would you recommend?
A P90 is the worlds most noisy pickup, at least with high gain stuff, a humbucker is much less noisy and much fuller in the sound, and that's what you bought, a humbucker in a P90 format, so this must be a huge upgrade i would say compared to the single coil you had before.
I am a bit confused. This is an Ibanez GRG121SP-BMC . This Model has a marplewood Fingerboard. You are using Dunlop Fingerboard 01 - but say: It is not suitable foe marpleboards??? Bring me the clue please.
I just bought a jem jr. used in white. it's fine but what's with the super high nut? I own gibson, kramer, jackson, other Ibanez, bc rich, fender, prs and others. none are that high at the nut. can I just buy a lower nut I mean so the strings will be lower at the first frets. I like low action and this would help the overall action. it's like 3 times to high. I will have to file down the groove were the strings sit or file down the wood under the metal nut but I dont like that because it wood mean it's stronger and I would take a lot off. all other guitar I have are 3 times lower, I would expect this on a Walmart guitar or something. I very suprised by this on a Ibanez. realy sucks. sorry for the bad spelling I am french. If I can get a lower one please give me the link for the righ one... anyone thanks.
@@christineblack4654 Take the screws out and see if there and shim or piece of sand paper under it if it used sometime people shim the locking nut to compensate lack of knowledge on how to set up a guitar or maybe they have a unique set up preferences. Without measuring it and knowing the height and the height ur going for its hard to just go find a link for a new one. I have filed metal locking nut slots down before but it should be a last resort. Im also assuming uve checked your neck relief and action and everything else first and made sure thats all where it needs to be. I didn’t have the issue with mine
@@SIX1NINEGUITARSANDGEAR ya I like low action. it's ok at the other end lol yes everything is good other wise. it's simply the nut is freaken high. I havent checked for shims yet( lack of time) but I will, but at first glance nothing seems to be there. it's simply like they put the wrong nut or something. very weir for Ibanez. thanks. it's like almost 1/8 high lmfao it's an fn nightmare. it's like they got the specs wrong, if it's the righ nut then the freaken cut of the wood is wrong lol know what I mean?I will take the strings off an try and get to the bottom of this. it sucks cuz I know it's a good guitar other than this nut thing. no ajustments will do it's realy on the nut side, it's gonna drive me nuts lol get it?
I hear nothing but good things about solar guitars. I'd really like to get one and try one out for myself. They just don't have many options for the lefties.
I've got a EC1000 that came with the coil split push/pull stuff. And it does in fact have stainless steel frets as well. But mine came with EMG 81/60 pickups not Duncans. I don't really care much for the push/pull coil splitting but otherwise it's a great guitar! Sounds and plays amazing!
Thanks for sharing dude! Really appreciate the tips and insight of your compact setup. With how expensive Stewmac and Music Nomad products can be, it's valuable to find cheap alternatives which don't overly sacrifice quality at a fraction of the cost. I'll certainly be heading to Harbor Freight in the future to fill some gaps in my tool collection; you can never have too many😆
Do you get the same end result hardness (2k vs 1k) after the proper cure times? Can you put 2k over 1k? Can you put gloss over matte clear? I have a can of 1k gloss and matt each. Over crackle. Thinking to use up the matte then then gloss then 2k gloss (if necessary). Seems the gloss would override the matte.
@@DrMurdercock theres a bunch of diff ways to get all doff style crackle mines the more striaght line crackle but i also like the splintered crackle looks to i think u get that with letting the base coat dry longer but i haven’t experimented with that yet
@@SIX1NINEGUITARSANDGEAR I've not experimented at all with crackle yet. I remember using it YEARS ago for something but don't remember what lol. I love the Brandon Ellis crackle jobs, Jackson has the crackle down to an art. SOMEONE knows their method online, just gotta find him lol
@@DrMurdercock haha thats a new one. Im good friends with there drummer matty B were from the same home town and when he was home from tour he would cone hangout or work at the venue i worked at hhaha
