When you work on the Aztec culture, see if you can find the words from the Aztec language, Nahuatl, that have made it into the Spanish and English languages. Just watch out for the word avocado if you are studying the etymology. September went by quickly, and I hope that October will not be too hectic. Take care and enjoy your week.
Loving the poster ideas! How many students do you typically assign to a poster? Do you find that one student usually does the work while the other(s) lallygag? Curious about the logistics - I’m going to try it out too!
@@marissag7979 I assign group roles if that group is having challenges! I also walk around the room often and give suggestions. Its def something that we are getting better at :) Some students choose to work alone so that is another option for students who are more on the independent side.
Ms. Kathy, I have been watching your videos for the past week and catching up for the last several months to this point and time and I think you are an amazing teacher. Most of what you deal with mentally has been very relatable. Talking about it has really put in perspective that teachers are humans, too. Of course, I am a kid of the 90's and from the southern parts of North Carolina and it had me remember the teachers I had and none of them did or put in work on the level that us, millennials and GenZ kids, put in to making these kids today have a better experience of elementary school than we did. I really appreciate that. I will say, your anxiety comes through sometimes and it makes me anxious. LOL! Is it alright if I suggest that you slow down when you're speaking and allow yourself to be calm as you're explaining your amazing school days and how its going? That's just help your thoughts flow well, help your thoughts not make you go blank, which GOSH, do I suffer through that on a daily basis! LOL! But, to help you not feel so out of breath when you are recapping your day. I've been vlogging and doing video game content with commentary since 2007. It takes time, but I think you will subconsciously create your "waves" in your videos. Heck, that's why I subbed to ya. LOL! Here's to a great school year for you, Ms. Kathy! Would have LOVED to have had a teacher like you back in the 90s. Would have helped a lot of the trauma I have experienced as a child at school.☺
I know this is old, Ms. Kat, but the Equate makeup removal cloths for sensitive skin at walmart are PERFECT for those of us who have hormonal acne. It brightens and exfoliates your skin and cleans your face completely. It also leaves your face super smooth. But, over time in a short time, youll see how bright your face is and the fading away of dark spots. It really helps. Plus, keep in mind of how much you work your face. Overworking your face can cause breakouts. Try to give your face at least a week of rest time using only your cleanser and moisturzer and your pore oil that youve been using. That way, your face can have a chance to learn how to natural heal on its own during the rest week.👍🏾
During plan time! We have 45 min M, T, TH and some wednesdays we have teacher directed prep. We also have our mornings about 25 min to prep what we need to! Its kind of here and there!
I’m very curious about your thoughts on ckla… do you do 1 lesson a day? How many units do you get through in a year? I am piloting this year and it’s a lot right now;) but i do like it. Just wondering how other people implement it and what you keep or take out to make it work;)
We take out a lot!!! 1 lesson is either cut down to one day or 2-3 days essentialy depending on what the lesson is! We might use the concepts but we def cant fit one lesson into a day!
It was difficult during the heat wave because the kids had to stay indoors. They missed their recess and outdoor physical education activities. If you can find information about the Mayan math system, try introducing your students to how the Mayans wrote their numbers. They were the first people to have the concept of zero. Enjoy your week, and thank you for your video presentation.
@@johnlopez3996 yes good info!! We learned the Mayan number system last week. Wrote the numbers and their symbols and talked about the differences with our number system. Very cool!
We are in our 6th full week and I finally feel like I'm getting into the swing of things. I'm teaching 1st grade for the first time and it was a bit of an adjustment for me! Family movie night sounds soooo cozy. Love all the traditions you share with us!
@@SKuhn we use the ready math scope and sequence. Lots of common core, place value, decimals, fractions, measurement, geometry, etc! Not in that order lol
September has been going by quickly, and my students also had to deal with the heat, but they had to deal with 100-112 F weather, so that also meant no outdoor recess. Do you have access to small cubes? Those are also helpful when having to learn about volume. Take care and enjoy the week.
Sorry I dont have links! Alot of them were from my team teacher or from tpt/google! I would try to look those up on google and see what freebies you can find ❤️
Families LOVE photos! I taught first grade and posted photos every weekend on Class Dojo. We were required to do a weekly newsletter in addition to Class Dojo.
Love your classroom. What do you mean the studnet shoutout can choose preferential seating? Like where can they choose to sit and not to sit ? Just curious please answer
I love all of the updates you made to your classroom, especially the accent wall and the make-shift bulletin boards. It all looks awesome. Your kids are going to love it!! I completely agree with how adding a lavel or a designated area and/or bin improves the flow of the room and how the day goes. It's such a game changer!! Thanks for sharing! P.S. I'm using your scrapbook decor idea again this year - i love it so much. This year, I used the scrapbook sheets to add some color to one of my doors.
