The ever-prolific Clayton also arranged the definitive Star Spangled Banner that Whitney Houston sang at the1991 Super Bowl. But few people remember that part - or knew it in the first place.
This is the first time I ever saw this live clip with the firey Chaka Khan and a wonderful orchestra. Wow!!! Just thinking, this is eleven years ago. A nice performance. Thanks for sharing. ❤️❤️❤️
They are great jazz musicians who perform incredibly well together with Chaka. Maybe this performance just doesn't fit your expectations of what cool musicians should look like. But I think you could afford to be a little more open to any deviations from your expectations.

Not a song or a band for camping it up! Rendition acceptable, but that getup? Bailey was OK. Not the original guitarist of course but gave a twist on the solo he’d have played thousands of times!
Sorry..me again....I forgot to mention the sax player who has an un-shiny horn........just like me....but I added verdi gris! Going to my third listen, with my 4th beer(last)....whoops just dropped my smoke........but bru.........so so Skylark-ish (Dick Oates?).........beautiful.....Craig Walters?....Love it....love it.........if you guys are ever do a gig in Perth...I will tell my eldest daughter to go and see you! She does not like jazz.......my attempts over the years probably put her off!! Red beans and rice to you.
I am trying to get my head around this arrangement....I know the original can bring me to tears....but this sits nicely now.........is the arranger perhaps slightly South African?...Maybe from Mannenberg?...........so nice so nice...thank you for posting. A little different from the Melbourne Ska Orch! (Gotta love 'em!) Peace and red lentils to you all.
Maybe, but then whose solo is it? I thought he did a good job with this arrangement and didn't overshadow the sax soloist. Easy to risk overly comparing to the Steely Dan version.
