I am as if in Netherland right now, on a slope, watching sunset with a heavy heart that is with full of feels.. There is a big mill behind me with a waterwheel slightly turning in the twilight... I'm Feeling the pureness, away from the everything that are changed, lost its beauty and gave up to the newcomers.. I am feeling the olds, I am feeling 17th century, away from every modern things and problems, I am in a different world!..
Incredible composition. I hope Hummel becomes better appreciated and performed in the future. Interesting to hear a piano and a harpsichord in the same piece.
You bring a lot of good unkown works to light, adding to the taste of the regular listeners and by so making these gone musicians honored. Thank you so much.
Is it not amazing that a composer from 1835-1921 could compose a symphony that could serve perfectly as a movie score some 100 plus years later? Incredible timeless piece. Thank you! 💓🎶
The opening is a simple pseudo-medieval pastiche, snippets of plainchant and a famous nativity hymn. The second part featuring the piano doodles around aimlessly with arabesque touches, - all very decorative and inoffensive. The bassoon opens the third part with another nativity tune. The twee tierce de Picardie at the end is particularly gratuitous.Nothing much to see hear. A twinkly bauble to hang on the Christmas tree. Would have been nice to know the pictures (triptych?) by Botticelli that inspired the composer….Surely worthy of higher inspiration.
Marvelous! I wish I had a better knowledge of musical terms so I could describe these pieces in a more musical fashion. Am sharing this piece with my sister who will especially love it. Thanks for the morning of music!
Agh. Damn this autocorrect! That's Tallis Scholars. As always, impeccable period performance style and warm, emotionally realized texts of the mass, even when Palestine himself gets a little cerebral. (I rather go more for Victoria, myself . . .) But go listen to the mass on this madrigal. 😊
