Thought about doing a Staff only run myself at one point but the question was, no magic period or only buff and healing. I have managed to beat the first boss of the game using only Staff and items on the English version. Good job man.
K so I don't know why there's no comments on this but this run was incredible and I've seen a lot of your glitched runs but I've never actually seen you run the game straight all the way through and I gotta say your routing is excellent your knowledge is great and the commentary and insight was really educational and entertaining The top hat and smack talking your wife for dissing your Kraft being a high light for me lol I've always loved this 💎 gem and this community small as it is has always impacted me I felt it was time to leave a comment and let someone know and the fact you had no comments on this blew my mind And dude I know Mammon is big but that sweet spot and RNG was awesome I just recently finally beat fire wind only and this run was awesome I've never played the Japanese my self but I'd like to try one day Or even when I get the resources submit a run and join the ranks of you scooliedee KirkQ peaches used pizza and all the other greats Fantastic run my friend your a true spirit tammer
1) You need to have less Agility then the enemies you get into an encounter with. 2) You need to be in a spot when the encounter loads such that you would be able to pick up the spirit. 3) You need to get an encounter on that spot in a specific way: when you open the spell menu Brian doesn't stop moving immediately and can still get into an encounter, so you do that on the spirit. 4) You cast a spell about 1 second into the encounter, hopefully getting the enemy teleport. 5) You try to setup so that you would escape the encounter when your turn ends 6) Open the item menu 7) Die and once you hear the death music, use a healing item. 7a) If you weren't out of the encounter get out now. 8) Mash like crazy
We are on the edge of AI being so advanced that I may have to look into creating my own version of quest 64 with jumping, physics and platforming, with new spells and enemies! what a time to be alive!
Heyy, I was watching your any% from 2 yrs ago..I was wondering how you do the Agility Glitch?? Like I couldn’t tell how th yours was going up so fast??? Lol
Hey There, I hope you enjoyed the runs. For agility glitch you need to be faster then the enemies you get into an encounter with and hit a/z while the encounter is loading for it to happen.pastebin.com/BGjDSLfu - there is a larger explanation there and other glitches
Never mind hahah I figured out the cloning thing for the first part but now I don’t understand how you’re doing the agility glitch????? O.o Like I have 35 for water, am using soul search searcher 2 and running back and forth between the two fights. :/ and my agility is barely going up lol
Dude, water is SO busted now! I just beat Zeles and am really digging Hard Mode. I went Water/Earth, but I'd like to see what changes happened to Fire and Wind as well.
that aint all, alot more special effects and animations that didn't even exist on the english verison... its like we got the unfinished game and JP got it when it was done. :(
My god, this game brings me back. It sucked not having the ability to save without the save pack, but as a kid, I tried to keep my N64 on at all times to keep going.
Oh, one more thing, many of those walking animations aren't completely "unused" as the NPC's will "walk" in place when they spin to face Brain's direction . I think the only one NOT normally seen by the player is the horse. Also, your auto captions thing can be kinda funny sometimes. It was a treat to read some of it's "misheard" words and sentences.
Da I always forget about the turning to talk and they 'walk'. As for the webcaptioner, part of it's fun is that it isn't perfectly accurate sometimes making for funny moments. Glad you enjoyed!
@@bingchang Well, to be fair to you, you're a speedruner, and, while the game tries to pretend otherwise, talking to ANYBOADY isn't needed to progress unless you're collecting healing items or saving. Talking to NPCs is more for lore dumps then anything else, which some people are into. Man, in that way this game almost has an "old school" feel to it, like the original NES Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior/Quest.
Man, I remember playing this back in the day when it first came out (the main game I mean, not the randomizer). I still enjoy Quest 64 even in spite of it's MANY flaws. Heck, I remember one time young me was in Princess Flora's room and I thought to myself "She'd make a good party member if this game had such things". So imagine my shock when I found out that she WAS supposed to be a party member, along with Kiliac the Pirate/Viking guy. I recently looked into the GBC game, and, I think it's much closer, at least story wise, to what Imaginer was originally going for, with it's added scripted sequences and such. It's be nice if someone found a way to rom hack Quest 64 and somehow ADDED those GBC story scenes and such, and also found a way to implement missing features like party members or a currency & shop system. Basically, I hopping that, through the power of rom hacks, someone could maybe, just maybe, finish the game. Sorry for the long tangent and wall of text. Anyway, this was fun, I wonder what other spells would make for a good avalanche replacement? Maybe Fire Bomb, with it raining explosions down, water pillar lvl 3 would be funny if they all just erupted out of the ground rather then fall from the sky, as would steam pillar.
Honestly this is how I tried playing through the first time as a kid. I was of the mindset that magic should only be used in dire situations or for healing like most other RPGs of the time. I had to come back to the game later once I realized that the game rewarded you for spamming magic. This is an awesome playthrough as always and looking forward to more runs in the future! Thanks for your persistence with this game.
I'm back, going to occasionally post stuff here, but I stream daily during the week on twitch. RU-vid is more of backup for vods for me atm, might change in the future though, we'll see
You cheat. It's not a real thing, I used a gameshark to set myself up with max stats and called it "NG+" as if it were an option. This is a meme category I did just because I thought it'd be fun
Thanks to finding your gdq run of this game, my wife and I have been reliving her childhood playing. She finds it comforting watching me play like she did her older brother growing up. She even remembers where some spirits are to help me along playing without glitches.
