Division 1: This indicates that the hazard is continuously present, unlike Division 2 where it's only present occasionally or under abnormal conditions. Therefore, the Pelican 3315 is certified for use in explosive atmospheres where flammable materials are constantly present. However, there's a crucial distinction to consider: Flameproof vs. Intrinsically Safe: Flameproof: These devices are designed to withstand an internal explosion without igniting the surrounding atmosphere. They typically have heavy enclosures and use special seals to prevent sparks or flames from escaping. Intrinsically Safe: These devices are designed to operate safely even if they spark, as the sparks are too weak or lack sufficient energy to ignite the surrounding atmosphere. They often use low-voltage circuits and special materials to achieve this safety. The Pelican 3315 is not flameproof. It is intrinsically safe. This means it meets the rigorous standards for safely operating in explosive environments, but it still has the potential to spark. Underground Coal Mines: While the Pelican 3315 is intrinsically safe, using it in underground coal mines requires strict adherence to regulations and specific mine approvals. For use at crash scenes and vehicle breakdown situations, where the vehicle is vulnerable to traffic impact. Wear a high visibility vest (Global Spec EN 471 Class 2) & carry min two in your car, at crash & breakdown situations to aid in your pedestrian safety. If operable, switch the cars *hazard warning lights* - on. When safe, evacuate passengers off to the side of the road or carriageway, well away from inbound traffic. If it is safe to do so; place a hazard warning triangle 50-150m, out to 250m (think steps) before the scene you seek to protect. (150-250m applies to motorway class roads). Place the triangle to the side of the road, or side of an affected traffic lane, but not in its middle, as you desire to taper closing traffic to another lane, not cause it to panic! The triangle is particularly useful on rural roads and highways, where a broken-down vehicle might be stopped over a crest, a blind bend or curve - situations where a vehicle's hazard lights cannot be seen soon enough, by closing unaware traffic. Finally; where legal to operate, use a CB radios recognised Road Channel to alert other traffic of on road danger.
