Helping You Live + Work More Sustainably in Texas 🌱
👋 I'm Cory. I'm a naturalist, writer, and storyteller in San Antonio, TX.
On this channel, we'll explore the "art" of living and working sustainably. I'm also the founder of Ensemble Texas, a media and education organization that helps Texans 'find out where they live. It's my belief that the more we know about something or some place, the more invested we'll be in caring for it.
I've been growing them since the 70's. Got my start in Big Lake, TEXAS. Looks like yours are the Phno Piquin. The ones I grow are the Phno Tepin. They are a great little pepper. 🤠
What caught my eye were the cool designs and colors! I had to calm down and do a deep dive on this phone case. Does it really protect the phone or is it all just for show? One review said these phone cases are not 100% biodegradable. Theres other plastic composites that are used to make these. And, well the cost. 60 bucks better protect the phone. Im still doing my research before i commit.
I've never had my phone break while using a Pela Case! However, what I have on my phone right *now* is from agood.com/ of which I'd highly recommend! www.agood.com/collections/mobile-cases/collection-filter-iPhone-iPhone_14_Pro Plus some of their designs (not sure which exact phone you have are 25-50% cheaper.
Great informational video! How deep and wide will the roots grow? Are they fibrous and shallow or are they deep, thick tap roots? I have a septic field so I need to be careful how close I plant if the roots are tap roots. Thanks!
Very nice explanation of the plant. I am going to try to grow some from cuttings. I was curious though about the seeds. Are they in the fruit and what is the best way to collect them? Thanks
Not my experience, but in my research I found that 1) yes the seeds are in the fruit (the tiny apple-like fruits) 2) wait till the fruit ripens, and then lay them out on drying screens and wait for the fruit to shrivel. Once that happens rub the fruit off the seeds and sow immediately (if you can). It's okay that the seeds have pulp on them at that point. I think storage is another question if you can't sow directly.
@@CoryAmesYT Thanks, I purchased some seeds two years ago and about half of them germinated. I currently have 7 plants growing and now flowering. I just took 4 cuttings as you mentioned, so will see how well it works out. I am growing mainly for the hummingbirds we get (in GA). They do seem to love the shade, they weren't doing as well in the late afternoon sun, so I put some white garden fabric over them and they are now doing great. I will have to make a more permanent covering for them, also so the hummingbirds can get to the flowers. I have to watch the deer though, they will eat them.
@@markgriff9265, yeah, Turk's cap can look a bit wilty in too much sun. However, that might just with the more time the plant has in the space. Curious if you might be able to grow something that could eventually shade them out!
@@CoryAmesYT Not where I have them. They are in a planter area next to the house and there is a 6' fence on another side. They were getting a few hours of direct sunlight, about 3 - 6 pm. They weren't doing well. I don't want anything bigger growing near them, too close to the house. Since I added the covering, they've been very happy.
Austin has sucked since like 2009. Sxsw in the early 2000’s plus the countless other fests (fun fun fun fest!) was a magically time-signed an old man in his late 30’s
good question! Not sure about your specific native plant nurseries, but, this nursery based in Alabama (I think) does sell them online! www.nativnurseries.com/products/american-beautyberry-seedlings-for-sale-callicarpa-americana?variant=15165858250809¤cy=USD&srsltid=AfmBOorbISE2ldRLgyGww1AWoeT93OEWaoWBqt9q9QboiPH4UuWM7r0lFLo I do believe there are a lot of other places that sell online, too.
Excellent video Cory ! I live in Memphis (zone 6b) constantly promote planting these. Matter of fact, I just recommended an Irish Master Gardner add some to her Gaeden.
Cool video, bro. I live in San Antonio, Texas, too. I fish salado creek a lot. There's so much trash in debris there. South lyons Park, where it feeds into the creek all the way down to 35. Are you accepting volunteers.
They are always accepting volunters, I believe. I'd check them out on Instagram if you can. instagram.com/riveraid_sa/ that's the best place until they launch their new website. That or facebook!
Is my opinion that meat that comes from european countries is 90% more quality due to controls. So i do choose to buy from them just because i trust them more with meat that groceries stores from usa
for sure. that's one way to look at it. I think it's a progression. I mean, BB wouldn't be sourcing their meat from grocery stores in the US. But rather, seeking out the right ranchers and buy from them directly.
good question. I think some perimeter mulching is always a good idea. With success your frogfruit will create good coverage and help solve this problem (sort of), but I try and avoid bare soil around my plants whenever possible.
Need all conservatives to support ppl like this, subscribe and like, only heard one position from this creator but usually in this world, birds of a feather flock together
Fire cider!!??! Tell me more!!! Recipe please! I'm also in NY and had zero luck cultivating from seed. Will try the bleach trick next year. My pland have the dark green/black color and uts September, so I'm getting worried. Its getting cooler in NY now, so I moved my plants (in very large containers) to a neighbors greenhouse that is still over 100 in the day, hoping to stress them a bit to make up for the cooler temps.

Hello, Your video is very good, but it is not properly SEO and optimized. Due to this, your video views are not coming as expected and your channel is not growing. Are you interested in fixing the problems?
Marvelous conversation about river stewardship in the River City. I'm in awe of the scale of your vision and the way you're making it happen, Charles Blank! And I'm really looking forward to future episodes of this channel. Way to go!
@@CoryAmesYT It is ok! thanks for your video. I am going to try again! I have 10 more seeds. I started 3 in March, but I think I will try a few again now, and then a few a gain in the spring. I had one in my own yard that I grew from a seed and it was about 6 feet tall when we moved. :) It is one of my favorites.
Wow, Corey, this was an awesome video! Happy I stumbled on it, I’ve subscribed. I’m in Austin, Edwards Plateau, and I have a giant anacacho and a more moderate sized one. The huge one was mature when I planted, probably already 5-6’ tall, but severely damaged by the 2021 freeze. It’s doing awesome now, and is maybe 12’ or more tall. It went crazy with growth this year. My question is about pruning. I feel like I need to cut back some of this upper growth. It’s kind of out of control, I never thought it would get this tall, and it’s not showing signs of slowing down. I don’t know anything about pruning trees. But also, this guy’s branches are so criss-crossy, and I’m seeing some rubbing damage at larger intersections. Thinking I’m going to cut the taller branch below the one crossing it, and do it this fall. Any thoughts on all that? One last thing, this guy is in full western sun. The only shade it gets is in the morning, lol. Maybe that’s why I only get blooms for a few weeks in early spring (?). I wish they lasted longer! My other smaller one is also on the west side, but has more shade as it’s planted under an oak tree. It’s a much more reasonable size, but not many flowers yet. Thanks again for the great video!
Love seth, but not the political nature of the conversation. Why tall about nazis and politics at all? Your brain is poisened by that b.s.. i want to hear business, not anti musk, antifa, anti whatever garbage. Couldnt even finish this video after 10 mins of that claptrap.
You mention about the beep everytime you open the lid....do you need to keep it plugged in all day while you're filling it up, before you turn it on at night? (we can't compost because of bears and other wildlife, so this would be a good solution for making wet waste dry and smaller, since we go to the dump every 7 to 10 days). Thanks!
That's a good question. Personally, I'd reach out to Lomi support on that one. But! From my usage I don't think that would affect anything at all. Good idea tbh! -Cory
Cory brother where are you from? You don't sound like a San Antonio native. Plus you seem to actually care which doesn't seem like a San Antonio native.
how have i never found your channel before? you're cool asf! it warms my heart seeing kind men who care about the environment 🥺🩵🌱 I've lived here my entire life and haven't really left much. This area of the Earth is so beautiful to me, and I'm glad other people feel the same 💕
How can we get humans to stop littering, which oftentimes ends up in the water? I don't understand the lack of pride in their surroundings. If everyone would strive to have a beautiful and clean environment, just imagine the feeling!
