Since 1956, Christianity Today has been a trusted beacon spotlighting the way in which Christians can live gospel lives for the strengthening of church and society.
We're more than a magazine. As a nonprofit global media ministry, Christianity Today engages over 4.5 million Christian leaders every month, encouraging and equipping them to advocate for the church and shape the evangelical conversation.
So I am nearly 30 minutes into this podcast which is all about the Book of Revelation written by some notable author and there's been literally nothing of substance concerning the Book of Revelation about apocalyptic genre and the method of approaching this text... There has been nothing more than some religious platitudes... This is more than disappointing I will move on to find scholars who are really serious about the Book of Revelation.
Well I appreciate the efforts Russell Moore has made, the idea that he is going to provide "a Christian perspective" seems as equally arrogant and condescending as so many of his evangelical brethren from which he has departed... That anyone would claim to have the Christian Perspective simply brings us back to another form of vaticanism and the magisterium I think it's time we grow up and find out what it really means to honor - starting off with an unlimited amount of humility
Two years ago I was honored to help my dad across the finish line of life. The whole experience had a profound impact on me. My parents were definitely part of that generation determined not to be a burden on their kids. The experience with my dad was hard but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. “Why would I want to rob my own kids of that experience?” I get it now.
Thank you Dr. Francis Collins for your scientific body of work and service to the US and the world through NIH. God has blessed the world through the work of your hands for His glory.
Francis Collins is LGBT affirming, equivocal on abortion, denies a historic Adam, enthusiastically supports barbaric embryonic research, and was on the wrong side of numerous covid issues. So he fits right in with the CT pundits... It is sad to see the flagship publication of the new evangelicals deteriorate into "progressive" apostasy. It is some consolation that only a few hundred watch these CT podcasts. CT no longer represents biblical Christianity and will fade into oblivion...
@@HearGodsWord Good point. But there is a current increasing downward spiral into increasing moral and spiritual depravity at CT. I saw a friendly interview with Brian Zhand on this site this week. Zhand is a liberal, unbiblical teacher who is clearly outside the historical Christian faith. CT, Fuller Seminary, and National Association of Evangelicals, etc. were all started by the new evangelicals of the 1950s (Billy Graham, Harold Ockenga, Carl Henry). The anchor of their movement was the inerrancy of Scripture. They would be shocked at the unbiblical theology of the likes of Brian Zhand, Francis Collins, and most interviewees and interviewers of this site, as well as the drift at Fuller and NAE.
Please pray for the Holy Spirit🕊️ to work miracles in the hearts of the lost 💔❤️🩹 and those who have lost their way 🕊️ sadly some of our churches have been tearing down public institutions for decades😢 telling their members that they can’t trust public institutions like public schools, universities, the news,, and Yes science too-this is very disturbing, but proof positive that we are all sinners fallen short of God’s glory ✝️ 🗣️these types of institutions were built to help with communities that for whatever reason have been marginalized. 💔 in essence they were built for the least of thee🕊️ Robbing Peter to pay Paul -for decades-has brought us to where we are today 😢 Jesus came to save sinners, not to persecute them..over and over again😩 -that was the Roman Empire’s philosophy .😢
Loved this episode. Rebeccah is awesome. Such a great conversation over a lot of important topics. So much info that I'll probably listen to it again. Thank you CT!
My Mom was the best example of getting out of bed and embracing life I ever met. She did it for 97 years. From living through the Great Depression as a child to being widowed at 50, making a living, and independently taking care of herself until she got sick at 92. Even the last 5 years of her life when I moved her in with me she got up at 6 o'clock, made her bed, dressed and had her breakfast. Her advice to me was that you have to keep going. Don't stop.
It has been such a blessing discovering Russell Moore in the last few days. But after listening to David Brooks every week on PBS it was great to hear that you are a Christian, and that you value the importance of seeing every person in the image of God. I totally agree this is right. I strongly believe it is a great sin against the God of Israel Himself to view any person as less than He does, and Jesus died for every one of us. This is so encouraging.
Let's see if I got this right. You start your intro with the need to have warning labels on social media due to potential mental health challenges, and you bring on a guest with an English degree... Got it.
Thankful for this. The beginning parts were difficult to get through. It took me three tries to finally listen to the whole thing and then "rewound" to catch some important portions. I had never registered the term "moral scrupulosity" before this podcast. That combined with some of the unrealistic expectations women put on themselves in church/christian culture from books, other people, our their own studies and thinking as discussed towards the end made for some really helpful food for thought.
I am fairly liberal in that I have always been a live and let live person. Jesus died for all our sins. I live in a very Trumpy area. I just for the most part keep my mouth shut. We vote in private and there is a reason for the. It used to be considered bad etiquette to discuss religion or politics in a social setting, oh how I wish it was today.
Awful... Listening to this I have to turn it off. I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder by several professional psychiatrists. I've been in outpatient psychiatric therapy as well as psychotherapy and counseling as well as DBT therapy for my mental illness also admitted. I I am born again through faith in Jesus death blood and resurrection. Listening to this was extremely discouraging. I started to wonder do I have mental illness or not while I was listening to this. Meanwhile the government has been paying my rent for two decades, and I get professional help at a mental health clinic, and I'm Arizona title 19 SMI mental health diagnosis. Listening to people discuss whether somebody has a mental illness or not I have heard that my whole life I've had people questioned me to my face and tell me I was not mentally ill then why is the government paying my rent for two decades why did a brother from church buy me a car and why is the government sending me disability checks and why did I get examined by a government psychiatrist to get those checks why did the United States Marine corps give me an honorable discharge back in 1982 based on a psychiatric diagnosis I'm shutting off your show you're taking mental illness and turning it into a lab experiment I thought this was Christianity
What is the connection between all of this to the teaching concerning the 7 mountains of influence? From someone who once believed this and then understood it was a deception, it gave christians a false ‘revelatory’ justification to radicalise around the sphere they felt called to. But then, because all of those depend upon government policies, it narrowed down to radicalising around one, politics. Becoming christlike and radical in service to Him and the gospel is a far harder journey to undertake. To radicalise around politics does not require you to change your inner heart and outward conduct. Just shout louder, become more aggressive, more divisive and divided, the opposite of Jesus.
Great conversation. Thank you both! I just have the impulse to ask about something you said around minute 40. As you stated that men ought to assume a role of a 'protector'. It does sound wonderful and many women will swoon about such a statement. I just wonder what man can protect me (60 year old woman) from things that really can do a number on us aging ladies. Like mental, emotional and physical exhaustion while being the sole caregiver for aging frail parents. Or poverty because women still earn less than men. Or being overlooked when it comes to promotions. Or potential dictatorships that could strip the remaining securities beyond bare bones, especially for women. Protecting from what? What if the husband keeps his wife from finishing her education with the promise "i care for you' and then he keels over at 55 from a heart attack being burnt out himself. 'Protecting the woman' is such a medieval concept as chivalry was en vogue. But the reality for many women is quite different - even WITH an man at her side who thinks he 'protects' her. Sorry for the rant, but when I hear the 'protecting-the-woman' thing, I get goose bumps. And not the good kind...
Tuned in to listen and found some of what was said “interesting” but what I found disappointing was during the end that she is wishcasting about what Trump administration would do foreign policy wise and retconning all of choices Trump and his campaign have made in statements and in VP selection especially on foreign policy… spinning being “non-ideological” as a good thing for commander and chief is dishonest. she’s got good points on standing up to foreign enemies but should take off the rose colored glasses
Good afternoon from the beautiful SF Bay Area. Geez, one hardly knows what to say about her views. For someone so knowledgeable she has some very extreme and delusional ideas. Anyone who cannot recognize how dangerous that Malignant One is I dread to think how many more like her are there in Washington. Same with Vance. Terrifying. Oh, at least she can recognize Churchill and the rise of antisemitism. It is very difficult to listen to her to the end.
Jesus warns his disciples, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions act as tyrants over them. But not so with you. Instead, whoever would be greatest among you must become your servant." Jesus never intended for his followers to build his kingdom from the top down by political coercion. Jesus demonstrates by example that his kingdom is to be built from the ground up by serving and loving the lost.
