Whenever I hear the song "Cleveland Rocks" I think of Benjamin Orr of the Cars who was from Cleveland and who was also taken from us too soon by cancer. I wish those guys had put down the cigarettes!:
I should add that I had the Big Country version of Tracks of My Tears on the mix tape that I made for my then girlfriend which definitely dates it to 1986!
lucky enough to see Big Country a few times in the mid 1980's. Always a great gig an night out. One concert at Guildford Civic Hall was particularly memorable...
Que banda!!! Es increible la fuerza que tienen!!! Mejór que ellos no hay nada. So0lo King Crimson y Frank Zappa están en este nivel, sin ninguna ecxepción. DE LO MEJORRR!!!
For the record the original by Buddy Holly sounds NOTHING like Bo Diddley. It was the Rolling Stones who turned it into a "Bo Diddley" type song, listen to the original and you will see. Also, this beat also called "shave and a hair-cut two bits" is properly called a clave. It is Afro-Cuban and far far predates the existence of Mr. Bo Diddley, he didn't invent anything. For those of you who think other musicians ripped off his beat, you would be mistaken, even if he had invented it, you cannot copyright a rhythm/drum beat or pattern. If anyone ripped Bo Diddley off it was his record company/management and publishing company. Those are the people he should've been angry with. By the way Bo Diddley may have toured with Holly briefly, but I don't think they spent a lot of time together. Also, Bo Diddley later said that he didn't even know this was a Buddy Holly song until after the Stones did it and told him.
Thank God my local radio station played Heat Treatment when it first came out. He is such an underrated talent. I've seen him live with a band, and also solo, and he never has disappointed. (Though I wish he would tour again with a band!) Squeezing out Sparks is one of the greatest albums of all time.
The guitarist in 2024 who I think comes closest to the style and showmanship Brian Setzer exhibits in this video is Luke McQueary, who plays with Kelley's Heroes. Like Setzer, he plays with a "take no prisoners" style that works well in a three-piece band.
Got to see him perform about 15 years ago in Calgary. David Gogo was touring with him. Johnny had to be helped onstage an sat for his performance. But was still fantastic!
