I may not be looking at Baldwin or Mobile Counties to relocate to, but at least I'll have the opportunity to visit. I'm looking at Escambia, Covington, and Barbour Counties as potential retirement relocation possibilities in Alabama.
We learned about Fairhope and we love it, and we wanted to be near the beach. But our realtor found a 4 bedroom brick ranch with a big fenced yard in Foley. The price was much lower and it is close to downtown, not in a Subdivision. Pros and cons to that. Homeowners that really care about the upkeep of their homes and some that don’t. Fewer night spots and the town closes early, but Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are close and they stay open much later. I like it because it’s centrally located. Pensacola and Mobile are 45 minutes away. Many native Alabamans but tons of upper midwesterners. Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin. A good mix. If you’re from the northeast….probably not for you and I know. I grew up in NJ but then lived 30 years in Atlanta, so pretty easy for me. Culturally, not a lot but Fairhope has more of those kind of things as well as Gulf shores and of course, Pensacola. But you get a small town feel. It depends if you want that. You have to visit and make up your own mind and it’s easy to make friends if you’re willing to try. Like anywhere else.
After selling our winter home in Tucson, AZ, we asked our daughter if she had any suggestions for a new winter haven. She suggested Foley, AL knowing we are not really beach people. We were totally sold, and we bought 3 homes there; one for us and one each for each of our children who are nearing retirement.
@@LivingInLowerAlabamaI’d love to have more stats on Mobile County. For one, you didn’t give insights about Saraland (2nd most populated city in Mobile County) and Satsuma, which have their own city school systems (both of which are amazing) and wonderful alternatives to living in Mobile. Also, advantages of living in Mobile County vs. Baldwin County with home prices to start. You could possibly make a larger video just on how Mobile County (in my opinion) is wonderful. There are downsides as well, but can be addressed. 😮
@@BaconBePropanethey're in there u just have to watch all our videos 😁 here's one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IjcvBNcSuLU.htmlsi=CMefPWBjbdJ1nxiS
Mobile is also the Rainiest city in the Continental US by number of inches. Some years it is technically a rain forest. If you havent experienced hot and humid climates before definitely visit first. I have seen the humidity and heat melt an engagement because she was from a cooler area.
We, me and the wife, have visited Fairhope this April. It was our favorite place out of all we visited during our Miami-Austin road trip! Can confirm, people are super friendly!
Tony. I am looking for luxury at affordable cost 800k to 900k. In Birmingham Montgomery. I do not like lower Alabama to live. Gulf Shores Mobile Alabama is Nice but not to live Daphne is ugly in my opinion.
Hi Tony and Jess: Although I plan on retiring later this year (even though my bosses are begging me put it off) I'm still roughly 5 years away from leaving the wretched icebox of NW Wisconsin (mostly for health insurance reasons, but also my son is still in college). I'm looking at relocating to either Southern Alabama or Southern Georgia (along the Florida border). Both areas have a much lower cost of living than FL. I'm also at the age that I don't want to be in the bullseye of a hurricane (or multiple hurricanes) every year. Also, both AL and GA offer very generous tax incentives to retirees (something that my state's elected officials fail to grasp). If I want to visit any of the Gulf Coast beaches, I can be at them in a matter of 2-4 hours (at the most) depending on traffic. As for what I would look for, being in a more rural area, I'd be looking at a doublewide (3B/2B, but might go as high as 4B/3B if the price was right). One advantage I would probably have, based on speaking to a few agents in those areas, is that I would be able to pay cash. Reason being is that (not all, but a significant number) lenders will not finance a manufactured home. Roughly a year and a half ago I was very angry, bitter, and resentful when I realized I would be priced out of a Florida retirement (and I was looking at the middle of the state north of Orlando (between Leesburg and Ocala. At one time both areas were considered a bargain for budget minded retirees like myself. Now the entire state is overpriced). However, living in a rural area, I would probably stick out like a sore thumb with my northern accent.
We have northern accents and everyone is more than inviting so it doesn't matter. Our best friends were born and raised here in LA, they're probably the nicest people we've ever met. Also if it takes you more than an hour to get to the beach you're doing something wrong lol unless it's 4th of July. Our team will be here when you're ready! Thanks for watching 😁
@@LivingInLowerAlabama With regards on how long it takes to get to the beach would depend on where your starting destination is. If you live in Baldwin or Mobile Counties, it probably wouldn't take that long. If you are coming from Atmore it would take about an hour and a half (at the shortest point) to get to Gulf Shores (it's roughly an hour to Pensacola Beach at the shortest point). If you are as far East as Eufaula it's about 4 1/2 hours to Gulf Shores (roughly 3 hours to Panama City Beach). If you are even further East as Thomasville, GA it would take 4 1/2 to 5 hours to Gulf Shores (roughly 3 hours to Panama City Beach). And I got all these time distances from the Driving Directions website. I was just casting a wide net on how ling it would take to get to the beaches based on where you lived.
I'm sold on Baldwin County. Unfortunately, my wife is not. She had trouble walking on the beach and fell 3 times. I love the beach. I also thought the people were nice, too.
@LivingInLowerAlabama Sounds like a great plan, especially since you can't drink on Gulf Shore Beach. I'm doing some arm twisting. We may be in LA, after all. Like your videos.
@ronwinkles2601 I enjoyed walking on the sand. As a former marathon runner, I have no issues. my wife has had 2 knees replaced and a hip replacement. So, I think balancing is her issue.
Great video . Moved from Dallas/Collin County to Orange beach Sept ‘23 ..after 17 years in TX and 8M+ people now in DFW(!!) needed a quality of life change + found it in Baldwin Co 😊
Appreciate you sharing realistic expectations that one should consider. How much income would a single retiree need to relocate to Baldwin County? I have read that Alabama is very tax friendly for retirees. Thank you for making another fantastic video. P.S. What is the average age of the people living in Baldwin county?
NOT TRUE ??? BS !! It is always jammed packed as more and more sheeple keep moving in from their democratic run states. Foley has become a greed for money city. I live here and have to go swim in Pensacola Florida since it is always crowded and can't find parking which is now $15 if you can find a spot. I lived here for 13 years and it has changed from a beautiful retirement city to bumper to bumper circus. Being you people work for real estate you will tell people anything to sell a home. Anyone need the proof of how bad Foley has gotten, contact me as I have photo proof.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and something tells me you're Moody more often than not! 😂😂😂 We mention in a lot of our videos how congested Foley is, BUT.... it's definitely subjective. Especially, when you come from one of the largest cities in America.
Is the golf for all residents or is it a country club? I’m white and my wife is Black and I know some clubs are exclusive. (She’s the only Black member of our current country club in Illinois). We’re looking to move to Lake Forest in four years (condo - I don’t want to take all those leaves) and just want to be sure we’d be welcomed. Thanks! Great video! My grandparents lived there in the 80’s - 00’s.
It depends on YOUR circumstances but everyone that understands our market realizes they'll be ahead in a few short years if they buy, and sometimes they have instant equity! At the end of the day, do what's best for you. If you want to chat more to talk to us about it you know where to find us! 😉
Having delivered pizza in Daphne I can say that Lake Forest is the most unique neighborhood in the area. With many trees and creeks, and winding/sloping roads, there is a magical feeling about Lake Forest.
Hey guys, I was wondering if there are any problems with sinkholes in southern Alabama, like there are in Florida. The life threatening kind I mean. Have you or anyone you know dealt with them?
Originally from Mobile moved away eight years ago, and the crime is through the roof, but I would never move back there ever and before y’all come at me, I live there for 44 years so yeah, I know how it is there.
Pickleball is currently the hottest and number one sport for seniors/retirees. Whichever of these towns have more pickleball courts will attract more seniors.😊
As someone who grew up in Satsuma and spent much time in many places in Mobile and Baldwin County, a few tips: Stay away from the Bayway Bridge (I10) during peak hours, use the Causeway/Battleship Parkway as soon as you can get off I10 after the George Wallace Tunnel. If you use 59 to go to Gulf Shores... mind your speed in Robertsdale, they watch for speeders like hawks. And... if you are claustrophobic, do not drive through the Bankhead Tunnel.
