It's one thing to sing this dramatic aria in front of a microphone 6" from your mouth. It's an entire different performance when live, on stage, no microphone, in character, and singing like this. Full chest high C - amazing!
His face at the end says it all; almost smiling, a little smirk escapes in his face breaking character while thinking to himself: "I did... I fucking did it... I FUCKING DID IT, I, FUCKING, NAILED IT". It's just great, man.
Not just "as good" but uniquely moving. Carreras communicates the bravery and determination of his character. His "vincero" means something more than usual.
What a wonderful time we have lived in to be able to see and hear something completely magical like this, I was melting as she sang that final try, what a beautiful woman and a voice like an angel
My wife and I have been long proponents of Pavarotti's version of Nessun Dorma, the 1972 studio recording of Turandot, conducted by Mehta. But my, oh my , oh my, Carreras has to be at the top. Not sure the two can compare, but this is about the best I've ever heard of Nessun Dorma. Bravo to one of the best. 👍
@@raymondgood6555me too, totally. I am no classical singer, but I took classical lessons as integration when I studied jazz singing at the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands. Well, I was able to get a much better dynamic and sound by only watching all these short videos over and over, by hearing pavarotti talking about legato, messa di voce, covering, passaggio, expression, than in 6 months of classes (and my teacher was not a rookie, rest assured). This man knew what he was doing and knew how to express it to others, very clearly. God knows what he could have done of a promising student.
