My Alocasia mix is grade 3-4 perlite, grade 1 perlite, coco chips, and a very small amount of coco coir. What my mentor taught me was to never pot your Alocasia in dry medium. Put it in a bowl and get it wet so the coir doesn’t run out of the pot on first watering. He also taught me to spread the roots evenly in the pot so they’re not touching each other then to backfill with medium (keep the plant suspended above the pot so you’re getting medium through the roots) and the base of the plant is only 1/2” from the top of the pot.
Please do a video on what lights you use. I’m struggling in a low light apartment especially in Winter. In South Africa I can’t find those wonderful Sansi or Soltech grow lights only those small blue and red lights.
I have a restrepia I got at an expo. It thrived greatly for nearly 8 months, giving many blooms. But now it has stopped thriving and I think it is dying. It is mounted on a cedar plank with what I think is sphagnum moss as the substrate. Could you help me?
Hmmm, how's the humidity and moisture of the moss usually? I guess the only time I see them suffer is in winter, because almost no new leaves grow during that time. I would keep an eye on the conditions. What makes you think they are dying?
Honestly with pink princess, price does matter as the ones with better ratio of variegation to green will command higher prices. It's genetics really, so it's tough to have those aesthetically pleasing ratio if the plant itself doesn't have that
Cant believe how invested I was in this after watching your first video on the Pink Princess. I have exactly the same issue with a very similar looking plant, and I actually did a fist pump at your triumph when I saw pink on the leaf. Im a newbie in the plant world and will follow the steps from video 1-3 and see what happens.
