I do like the older Zero 1 Systems and if I knew what I was doing. I would convert one to handle modern DCC and add an LCD display to show the number address as well as control up to 50 locomotives. I bought the 1988 Hornby Track Plans and I will be covering them on my main Transport & Simulation Hub channel as I like the retro train sets the best. Great video and thanks for showing us the layout. Please do more of this. I love the content mate. Peter.

I love this DCC system. It was ahead of its time. Sadly its not compatible with the modern day DCC systems but I would like one again for the sake of nostalgia :).

Hi Steve , Fantastic info on the Phase 3 Zero 1 system . I have been using the main unit to control my colour lights for over 10 years now and i need some help. I have just purchased a complete phase 3 set up but the main control unit Set up button when switched on lights up. Could you give me any advise or help with this. I do not know if i need to replace the battery as shown on your video. Any help would be much help. Thanks Tim

Hi Tim, Thank you for your kind comment on my video. I would definitely recommend that you remove the old back up battery from your Micromimic console as it will be corroded and possibly leaking. The system works fine without it in place. It just won't remember the set up after powering down. Let me know how you get on and any further help you need.

@@stevebennett4919 Hi Steve , Any chance you could let me know the type of battery i would need for the Micromimic console and how to remove the old one. Thanks for the help. PS Like the website, Tim

Hi Tim, Glad you like my website thanks. OK so you will need to remove the screws holding the case from memory all the ones of the same size . You can then carefully lift up the the back. The pcb board lifts up and is attached to the 2nd pcb with a wired ribbon type cable, be gentle lifting the board away to access both pcbs. Once your inside the unit you will see the battery pack it has 3 legs holding it to the board. You will need to desolder it, if it's easier snip off the legs and then just heat up each one to clear the holes. The battery is available on the well known auction site, I will see if I can post a link to it. Now if your lucky the pcb won't have any damage to the boards tracks ? If not you might need to clean up the surface with a pcb cleaner then use a multimeter to bell out the tracks from one pin to the next to check there are no breaks due to battery damage, if there are don't worry you can repair these using link wire soldering in place to simply bridge the gaps. If its bad it usually gets a couple of tracks. Once all is good solder in your new battery and re-assemble unit. Test it with some modules and leds in circuit set leds and change them once working power down and wait 5 mins then power back up leds should be remembered as you left them.......if you need any further help let me know. Best of luck Steve.

Hi Steve, it’s great to see the Zero 1 system in action, I have this complete system, all boxed and new, I never got a chance to use it because I left the hobby many years ago, now I’ve returned it has moved on in a big way, I hope to trade mine in soon, keep the videos coming.

Thank you for your very kind comment, shame you never got to use the Zero 1 system, yes it has moved on with electronics including DCC you should get a fair return on the kit when you do sell it on. I must admit the accessory modules do save you an awful lot of wiring under the baseboard. Best regards Steve.

Hi Steve, Loved the ZTC video, have you any plans to do anymore. I got a ZTC a year or two ago and have only tested it. Its great to see that you can use the zero 1 chips in these, gutted as i had a load of these chips and gave them away before i bought the ZTC.

I have also been collecting and repairing the old series 3 track and my plan is to make a small layout to run some of my old solid wheel Triang locomotives and rolling stock. I made a Super 4 based layout for my kids many many years ago but can’t remember what happened to the track, Super 4 is getting expensive on places like eBay hence my move to series 3. I have noticed that Oscar is now constructing a system 6 layout and still the memories come flooding back when he reviews some of the wonderful collection he has.

Great to see the Zero 1 again. Developed I believe by Robin Palmer who went on later to develop the ZTC range of DCC, which is still in production although I'm not sure who makes it now. ZTC did produce a sound decoder in the late 1990s, a version of which I still run today

I think the 1979 catalogue picture was slightly different to the production version - the speed controller was cylindrical if I remember ?
@stevebennett4919
@stevebennett4919 3 года назад
Yes that's correct the pre-production version was in the 1979 catalogue but the production unit was different & available from 1980. Thank you for commenting & I hope you enjoyed the video.

@@stevebennett4919 Hi Steve. I had Zero 1 as a kid when it came out in the early 80's. Long since gone. I now model in O gauge but am planning using it to operate accessories such as points lights and turntable etc. Obviously not via the track. I would have seperate wires just for the accessories. Its a garden railway so less wire the better. Sorry to be a pain but itching to get going so If you get a chance please I'd love copies of any of the phase 3 items instructions. How are you finding control of the locos?

@@PeterAllton Hi Peter, Excellent on the O gauge outdoor railway, I have an O gauge myself built on trestles using decking boards & timber side frames. It had to be portable to get the plans past by the lady of the house. I am away at the moment but upon my return I will look the instructions out for you & email them to you. Sounds a very interesting project your doing. Steve.
