watching this (you) scared the shit outta me. directly at your entrance just from the sound of your skis and the ski width choke i said to myself, “self. this where you get into a rhythm of tight jump turns. slow safe solid” the moment you took your first turn… i took my first breath from watching your descent. well done but yikes
I remember when they were practicing the route. They came out of little cottonwood canyon, flew over my house in sandy, headed north to SLC, TURNED OVER Park city, came back theough the canyon, and repeated 4 more times. I thought the windows on my house were going to explode. And I thought the US was under attack because I didnt know they were practicing for the game.
This time of year it is all about timing. Ice in the morning and slush in the afternoon. If you get somewhere between when it is soft, it can ski nicely.
@@TonyKorologos It was terrifying. It was my first time ever at Alta. I was a decent skier, but no local. Use to small E. Coast hills. Those local dudes are nuts, talented and fearless. He was full on- Grateful Dead blasting in his headphones. He invited me to ski with him. I was alone so I did. Mistake. I made it but it was not pretty.
Super cool. Maquel and I visited there a year or so ago and it was awesome. There was a great loop hike near the small visitor's center. The corgis loved it too.
Did the same ski on July 3 last year. I could actually make somewhat decent turns last year. Not this year on the 16th. Much more sun-cupped this year. I expected to be able to hit it in August, but how much can be skied will be questionable since it is so hot.
Hey lets build 27 200' tall gondola towers in LCC and Go Bowling! The taxpayers will foot the bill. The roof of the structure at 1:11 was carried across the creek and is on the south side of the canyon now. Nice video Tony, thanks for posting.
@Tony Korologos As a guy that loves to ski out west but has a job locking him into living in the northeast I find myself needing more rest than I feel I can get when I go out west to ski for a week and feel the need to get as much skiing in as I can while I'm there...as I've gotten older I try to get one no ski day after 3 ski days but depending on the snow situation (powder day on day 4 I'm skiing!) it doesn't always work out like that. I'm in no hurry to get older and retire but I am looking forward to skiing 5 times as many days I do now but pacing myself over a season, maybe something like alternating ski days and rest days, maybe not feeling the need to go from fighting for first chair until the lifties tell you it's a wrap at 4 o'clock.
I thought I skied Gunsight twice this winter but I recall it being wider and more like an open bowl. Maybe I didn't? First time I was skiing with someone that new Alta very well and he took me back there. Second time alone...there was this really weird rock formation. Had to sidestep up this cornice like thing and then the entrance was sketchy but then it opened up...
Sounds like he took you to Eddie’s. This video looks quite different than what we are seeing now since there is double the amount of snow at least currently.
@@twochordcool Both Gunsight and Eddies drop you onto Homerun, off of the Sunnyside lift. If what you hit came out at the rope tow, you were probably in Eagle's Nest
Absolutely incredible conditions at the drop in point. First time I skied Alfs there were soo many more rocks in the entry. Utah's winter this season has been legendary.
