This is an astounding piece of music. Heard it over the radio and for the life of me couldn't guess the composer: the long, lyric phrases are so convincingly Romantic, yet the occasional interspersed genuinely Classical moments make me wonder if this is some Romantic-era composer that couldn't shake off his obsession with the Classical style. Listening to this version after getting home, the transition from the first to the second movement struck me as resembling a movie scene where impeccably dressed characters holding glasses in their hands laughing and socializing in an elegant ballroom turn around to see a curtain was inadvertently drawn open, revealing the sight of the real world outside, that of a desolate postwar barren land whose harsh winds blow a couple withered leaves into the room, temporarily breaking the spell of the illusion and the fantasy they're constructing to sustain themselves. Perhaps not unlike the end of Russian Ark. This, together with the end of Don Giovanni, is another example that assures one Mozart was never just about the courtly dances and pleasantries of princes and princesses, but also the smell of sulfuric fire that inevitably seeps into every and each person's journey of life every now and then. Except he paints it with such elegant style that even the full frontal depiction of it escapes being gory, instead is simply profound.
Love them inCanton NY we visited with them for over an hour. They gave us the best seats in the venue. When they drove out in their limo when leaving he motioned me over and pulled my head in and gave me a kiss it was the highlight of my late teen years.
This song can make one cry, it's so heart touching, I didn't knew about this eternal song, but I came to know after hearing this for the first time in Conjuring 2
There's nothing that hurts greater in life than to have to say goodbye to somebody that has passed away or somebody that you can no longer be with it hurts like hell
This song has its detractors who say that it is stereotypical and disrespectful of the South. Even so on a musical level, one cannot help but appreciate the song and artist.
Gary and the Union Gap band are the best sound for love ballads I have ever heard. Sad lament, but it is perfection; sung from the heart and soul. 🎼❤🎶🎸
