Watching this as a Moroccan is profoundly transformative, reshaping my perspective on overcoming the inherent sense of demoralization and despair often associated with belonging to a developing country where people believe the system is a failure. It reinforces the idea that achieving greatness is a choice
Quant je voix les pas de hicham g c est Comme si je voix la locomotive d un pays qui avance. Par des pas sur en avant. Mais malheure segment ce temps n existed pas de nos jours. Il faux que nos respensable trouve pourquoi.
The mid 90's was the greatest era of 1500m. Those times still stand 25-30 years on. And on an outdoor track, no athlete has come within a second of the World Record
No offence but there's no chance he has asthma, but I sure know how those inhalers help a runner with their oxygen intake. I respect his ability but he was definitely cheating.
Everyone was doped back then, but they started doping after turning professional. Disgraced coach Alberto Salazar’s golden boy 💉 Galen Rupp had asthma to get WADA exceptions for all the steroids he had him on. But Rupp never got in trouble for doping because Salazar was doping him since highschool before NCAA or turning professional so there was never a change in his bloodwork, he was always doped, so it was his baseline with no variation. That’s what the new generation of runners are coming from: and we’re getting sub-2:00 marathoners and sub 3:25 1500m WRs in the near future.
How can he be hailed as the greatest 1500 Olympic runner ? He only won it once.... Sebastian coe won it twice 1980 - 84 I'd say that makes him the best.
Thank you so much for the introduction to high-altitude training! Now I'm going to train everyday at the top of Mt. Everest then come back down as the fastest man in the world!
I remember this very very very very well I was very young, I was with my family in Morocco, my father was driving in the motor way and then suddenly everybody stopped there were thousands of Moroccans parking their cars in the motor way, not moving and people outside of their cars standing close to their cars and everybody listening to the radio (it was 2004) The entire country stopped breathing shops closed, empty streets, exactly like during Morocco's matchs in the world cup and I still remember hearing the Moroccan commentator on the radio repeating hysterically "Hicham Lagat Hicham Lagat Hicham Lagat Hicham Lagat Hicham Lagat" in an extremely loud and emotional voice and then said "our hero did it, our legend did it" and burst out in tears like many people in the highway That was one of the moments I will never forget and just few days later, once again, the entire country stopped breathing : it was again Hicham going for the 2nd olympic gold medal at 5000m extremely proud to be Moroccan Long live my country
El Guerrouj was under pressure of all a nation, he had won 32 races without any failure, but the Olympics slipped between his fingers 2 times, he had no chance left but this one. He could die for this medal, and got 2 gold medals. Hicham, you will be always remembered as one of the greatest athletes of all times. From a Morocco citizen 🇲🇦
This really gave me goosebumps ❤❤.. I was about to cry by seeing him chasing his dream to convert into a reality... Very well talented athlete.. Hats off to him
Losing does not exist? He certainly is deluding himself there. He had to learn to lose in order to learn how to win. Only Herb Elliot can say that over his 4 year international career.. losing does not exist.
