For me, the true uncanny valley in Ghost in the Shell is the new world, which on the surface looks nearly identical to the old one, but in reality has been so altered by cyberization that we are actually witnessing the very last moments of what we are able to recognize as humanity unfolding.

I can't get over that it's been almost 30 years since the movie was released. This was way ahead of its time in every aspect: animation, plot, characters, setting, futuristic technology. It almost feels like this was produced yesterday.
Though her character doesn’t even have any lines, this felt like the most fitting way to pay tribute to a legend. Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Atsuko Tanaka.
I got a similar vibe when I rewatched Akira last year. A sense of a dirty concrete jungle created by humanity, almost completely displacing nature, yet people continue to live their lives and you can never shake the feeling that something truly ancient and primal never left, both in the land the urban environment is built over and in the souls of the people who live there.
They sure don't make anime like this anymore, it's kinda depressing how bland modern anime is. Even "gorgeous" modern anime like Frieren aint got nothin' on this.

There is heavy symbolism with reflections in this scene, be it the water or the glass. Takes you back to the scene just before this where she says "its like looking at yourself in the mirror". This scene explores her feelings of identify and her place in this world
