For my next ride I'm considering a medium, like the 900. I've had big Bikes and still want to travel, but I think the lighter Bike would be easier on my legs. And I don't ride two up.
Good coverage of the installation, shame about the missing section but, the coverage was sufficient to complete the installation. The Suzuki instructors are pretty vague so my concerns were dismissed when I watched you removed one of the main engine bolts. Thank you appreciated.😅
After struggling to try and flip the two little levers to take the trunk off, I removed my saddlebags defined that there is a 4 mm bolt holding those down to prevent theft.
when you take off the expansion tank cover (3:23) by removing the two bolts, the inner bolt has a 'U' clip nut, and on my Vulcan, it fell off when the bolt was undone, so take care not to lose that. The other bolt came out fine, but it wouldn't go back in, because the plastic tank hole wasn't aligned with the captive nut. No matter how much I pushed the plastic tank, that hole just wouldn't realign properly to allow the bolt thread to start. A real pain as the other bolt holding the expansion tank in place is only accessible after dismantling and removing the outer metalwork. If it won't align when I release the tank, I'll probably enlarge the hole on a drill press. A bit tedious really and something which should be straightforward isn't. :(
How about an oil filter wrench instead of driving a screwdriver through the filter to losen it? It works in a pinch, but if you're changing your oil regularly, I'd get a filter wrench. Other than that good job!
I couldn’t find a filter wrench small enough locally and had to order one online. The screwdriver thing was because I hadn’t purchased a filter wrench yet.
Do you experience significant vibrations under seat around 5k when you revit in idle after mounting side racks? Now put both side panniers and vibrations are gone. Can you confirm is this behaviour the case on your vstrom please?
I’m not sure what helmet I’d recommend other than try them on before you buy them if you can. I’m currently using an Arai Ram-X Helmet which is not a cheap helmet at all but I got it on closeout.
I wasn't impressed with Honda of the Ozarks. I called ahead to look at a VTX, drove a couple hours to get there and the bike was in the back 5 deep in the pile. It was poorly taken care of in the past with rust on the inside of the shocks and had fork oil leaking all over the brake disk. Wasted trip for sure...
new rider here. 7 months in. I've put almost 11k miles on my bike in that 7 months. I'm with you on that "ride if I can" mentality. I'm looking for some good rain gear to help increase my riding days and this Nelson Rigg is looking like it might be the answer!
First of all, thank you for this video, I do not own a Vulcan S.....yet, I just sold the last Harley I will ever own. I paid $37,000 for it and it broke down four times within the first year. Then I sold it for $28,000 and glad to be rid of it. I could buy a Vulcan S with all the fees and taxes with the money I lost on the Harley. I wnat a bike that is comfortable and reliable and NOT a V-Twin. I'm tired of the chug chug chug. I think I found the perfect bike for me, the Vulcan S. I like the gauges being up front and not on the fuel tank, I like that Kawasaki placed the ignition swicth where they did and even thought ahead far enough to install that piece of plastic around it so your key chain (plastic) won't scrath the paint. I totally love the parallel twin engine and six speed gearbox. I like the alloy wheels because they give you tubeless tires, and the low seat height because I'm short legged. As you can tell I like just about everything about the Vulcan S. But I do think for the price Kawasaki should give you a passenger seat and passenger foot pegs from the factory. If somebody wants to take them off, that's their choice, but I think they ought to come with the bike. Ride safe and enjou every journey.
