First and foremost, thanks for making this video. Very helpful and I was able to complete the repair. For your next video... 1) place the camera above the plane of your hands. On some of the most critical operations, your hand(s) block the view. 2) Summarize the tools and skills needed to complete the repair at the beginning of the video. Folks should watch the video before starting, but I suspect some don't/won't. Not everyone has a soldering gun/iron or shrink tubing in the tool chest. Thanks again and please keep posting DYI videos.
Took me about 2 hours to change out the battery. I should’ve watched the whole video before opening my S2. Once I’d gotten to the point where I had to solder, I didn’t know if I would go through with it… haven’t soldered since high school(over 35 ago). Went to Harbor Freight got the soldering iron, some cheap solder and the replacement battery on Amazon. I was low-key excited when my old and trusted watch came back on! The whole thing cost me just under $24. Thanks for the info and good luck to everyone who tries this meticulous but very rewarding task!
Very nice! My 305 had to go in for a warranty repair to Garmin (Montreal/Lachine (2012?)) and it came back working but the housing wasn't sealed properly and the halves started to separate. Wouldn't boot. If I held the halves together tight it would boot. I don't know what glue I used. Worked for a while again, now the mode button doesn't work so I can't get to the menus, and of course it's separated again..Thanks for showing your process. (it finds satellites, albeit slowly, it picks up my original HR transmitter.)
I used wire instead of sewing thread to join my two ropes and it worked really well I didn't have to take apart the pulley at the distant end. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Fvhrt9J0Wo.htmlsi=uq7iqaqsBjcT3b9z
This was VERY helpful. After viewing it I felt confident I could do this myself. Thank you very much for posting it. The wiring inside my watch was a little different. To connect the new battery I decided to cut the wires leading to the old battery leaving myself enough room to hold them while I used my fingernails to strip the insulation. Soldered them just as suggested here. Tin first. I didn’t have shrink tubing so I used electrical tape to ensure the connections are insulated. You have to take the long end of the watch strap off or you’ll definitely break the back of the watch trying to remove it. You’ll need two small Allen wrenches. I had both a metric and English set. I used a 1/16” (about 1.6mm) and a 1.5 mm Allen wrench to remove the strap. The shaft is metal on both ends. When you reassemble the watch after ensuring the gasket is in place as the video shows, remember you’re screwing into plastic so just snug.
You did this in probably the most difficult way possible. you could have saved yourself a lot of time and hassle. Should have started with the cover open and removed the guides and pulled the leading edge out of the track at the cover box.could have also avoided pulling out the track and having to put it back in.
Hi Dan: Unfortunately I broke the white plastic connector while replacing the battery. Can you replace that connector, and how much would you charge? Thank You, Rob
We have a video we would like to share with you. Can we have your email? We took a video showing a great way to connect the ropes and feed the new rope through the track. Looking forward to sharing it with you to help others. You can email me at TWoodford@woodfordbros.com for the video.
Great video Dan. I have a question. Would you happen to know the material or better yet, replacement part associated with the backlight? In performing the battery replacement, a small (grain of rice) sized 'brick' fell out of the watch face. It had white sides and a grayish interior. I thought it was a piece of packaging. Unfortunately I misplaced it, and Garmin can't share what the part is made from. Furthermore they don't sell parts for the Forerunner 10 as its not supported. Please advise if you know how to source this part, or worst case how to fashion one from donor material. Sincerely, Josh
@@fixyourgpsPerhaps you could help me. I have a Cover Pools cover and the slide stops at one point in the track. Is there a screw in there that could be partially out and hitting the slider?
There are no screws in my track. Check that the sliders aren't worn out. The cover is retracting evenly and not askew. The self locking bolt that hold the slider bracket should allow the slider some freeplay. to account for any variance in the rail parallel.
I’m trying to find a battery replacement video. Garmin tells me they do not replace or repair this model anymore. But theres plenty of companies that sell batteries for the 310xt still.
Hi Dan, I sent 2 S2's in about 2 weeks apart I'm guessing about 6 months ago. I rotate their use playing about 4 days per week. You replaced the battery in both. One works great and I can get 18 holes plus. The other I can get 12 holes if I'm lucky. I treat them both the same charging wise etc. Please email me at rgiolas@msn.com with any solution you can offer. Thank you.
The links to where I bought the cover and parts are already listed in the initial posting of this video. Btw this cover is still good and trouble free since the installation video.
Bowtie Chevy Guy mine wouldn’t either, there is a force satellite function I did on mine last week. Start it will holding down button for 30 seconds (I think)
This video is enough to put anyone off trying to replace a battery. Hands in the way most of the time. The Garmin design is hopeless and obviously they just want you to buy a new watch, as after all the effort it is most likely not to work at all. he says he'll do it for you!! How much????
