Thanks to Shakespeare's friends, history has his plays! So many important cultural legacies saved by peers in the past, it's interesting to wonder about contemporary conditions and reliance on current data trends.

Thank you Dr. Apple . The presentation was excdellent . I did not get to view originally . High academics and intellectual , but I understood every word . I followed closely , I am a good fan. A scene needs a relationship between audience and performer . Perhaps Pittsburgh , in being so rooted , how many people never leave, or return to their families and neighborhood. Living not far from the tree . A place to store the stuff , a cellar , garage, an aunt's attic to stuff with artifacts from youths not wasted , cherished . That rootedness maybe makes Pittsburgh unique . You are a trans scholar Harrison , you trans pass you trans through and connect the archival materials , nostalgia melancholia - with the people . I felt great respect FROM you as I entrusted my memories and mementos to you . The respect is mutual , you should know how highly regarded , admired , respected you and your work have become. Deserved ! . I appreciate your concerns for understanding the donors, your sensitivity , and enabling public viewing , as well as considering privacy. We are eternally gratefull for getting our history into institutions , officially into a cannon , an archive - where it belongs . It gives me satisfaction to unburden myself of some of the original materials , not to worry about them. 101 ! copies you scanned for me to enable my collection to be saved, viewed, appreciated , safely stored for posterity. Harrison has great vision , insight , and a keen photgraphic memory as well as dedication . Community archiving , and " What is that ? " Empowering the public, the paricipant , . Forging a relationship , engaging the donor. Harrison your prespective and example are outstanding . Class , areal class act . Thank you Kate Barbera for moderating so well.

@@shin-ishikiri-no yes, the problem is that high decreases your physical performance, and it is physically very challenging to breath in the liquid. If they had a painkiller it might make them unable to breath.

Thank you for that rich explanation of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. As it happens, Joseph Traub, whom you mention early in your talk in connection with CMU's Enigma machines, gave a series of lectures under the auspices of the Lincei, and then expanded the lectures into a book along with co-author Arthur Werschulz. The book's title is "Complexity and Information," Cambridge University Press, 1998. The cipher discs remind me of Ramon Lull's Ars Magna.

Dr. Apple .. thank you so much for this talk. Kate, thank you too .. and how fortunate you are to moderate this brilliant talk. Let me just first say that I am so glad to finally get a chance to view this, even though it wasn't the easiest decision to make. While I came into Lucky's scene much later (the late 80s most of the 90s), I have vivid memories of the after-hours scene in Pittsburgh (I believe he also was one of the sponsors for the north park memorial day picnic, if I am not mistaken). Short story, I wasn't sure what to expect or that I wanted to relive those memories, but I am glad. "To care for a memory that is not mine, and to be responsible for a wound that is not mine" left me in awe. I see archives (community or otherwise) from a very different perspective. I agree that archives can do more about developing a relationship with the people they represent, or at least the communities they represent. It's nice to know that there are community archives and locations but I also believe that some are still hesitant to be visible in these communities and many would rather do it under the guise of academia (and that's just my own impression). I also think we are lucky to have so many universities are known for collecting such memories (I worked at the University of Pittsburgh prior to coming to Carnegie Mellon and became very familiar with their LBGTQ+ collections and archival materials .. well, at least until 2009/10). Yes, please bring these materials into the digital space (I am aware it's not without complications as you pointed out BUT ... that would be awesome for those of us who still care to take a stroll down memory lane. Again, thank you. What a joy. I know I'll be sharing this with some of my community :)
