Karl, your work is simply amazing. The patience you have is astounding. How you edge the ebony { I'm assuming} around leaf pedals to show definition has to be the most tedious thing ever, those pieces are so thin. This video is gonna remain on my watch later list forever, looking forward to future projects.
At 80 years old I am just getting into marquetry but I have started with a laser because my hands are not steady enough to cut with a knife. What you have created here is truly amazing and I know I will never achieve The level of quality and beauty that you have. Please post more videos. I really really enjoy watching your work. Tom
Your arts are blowing my mind. :) Amazing precision. I'm trying with marquetery too. I have big problem with cutting some pointed, thin elemenents. They are breaking very often. I dont see it at your work. You have so amazing knife, or is it some way to make vaneer more soft?
Karl, can you identify the brand of knife you are using? They look to be much more comfortable that the medical scalpels I've seen others using. Thank you.
Your work is incredible! The thinness of the veneer, the detailed plans, and the precision of the whole pattern came together to make something I have genuinely never thought could be done in just contrasting woods. Awesome video, and I hope to see more from you!
@@karlottoarts Thanks for the reply. I have had the idea of taping the veneer surface with yellow tape, then spraying the tape with mounting adhesive and sticking the design paper to it. Do you think this would work or is even necessary? Thankyou again, your work is an inspiration to many of us.
Hi Karl I really like your process for doing the 3D Illusion patterns, would it be possible to go into more detail in regards to what tapes, glues, substrates and tools you are using I especially like the way you use the Isometric graph paper, is that a blade you are using as a ruler.
Hello, yes I use an old dull blade as a ruler. I couldn't find my old ruler once and since then the blade has been my new ruler xD For tape I use masking tape to hold everything in place and at 07:45 I use veneer tape. I use simple wood glue as glue. Nothing special or anything Other tools I use are: a table saw for the final cut a hand sander for sanding
I traced the leaf with the knife and then cut it out completely. Similar to another video of mine here from minute 6:00: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sGfTIn-v11k.htmlsi=sMJ-drHgevlMLdew&t=360
Super happy to find your channel, I just started working with veneers and your work is amazing! I end up with small gaps between some of my pieces, have you had that problem? Did you use anything specific to fill between the pieces?
Thank you. When I first started I had this problem too. If the gaps are too big, I have tried pressing small veneer fibers into the gap. Other than that I don't use anything else. However, the longer I do this, the less I have these problems. Practice makes perfect :)
Muito bom. Prefiro os trabalhos abstratos, como esse. Talvez você possa fazer algo que brinque com perspectiva, como os trabalhos do Escher. Saudações do Brasil
