We're a family of 5 living on a 10-acre lifestyle block in Canterbury, New Zealand. I love finding cheaper ways of doing things, from recipes to work around our land, and also finding great activities to do with my kids, so decided to combine these things into a RU-vid channel I hope you will find entertaining and perhaps learn a few tricks along the way! If you enjoy the videos feel free to subscribe to my channel for the latest updates, and look up my Facebook page "Cheaper Ways NZ" for more wee tips.
I'm from Vila Velha, a city in Espírito Santo, Brazil, where the average temperature is around 24.7°C. I'm really interested in chatting with you about how you're using the Kratky hydroponic method. As an electrical engineer, I'd love to share some insights and learn from you as well. I’ve tried reaching out to Professor Kratky for more info and research materials, but unfortunately, I haven’t heard back." Does this feel more in line with what you had in mind?
Hey thanks, unfortunately we don't have a camera on the computer for facetime etc if that's what you mean ... our main aim is to show trial & errors, failures etc as we were told this is the cheapest method to set up hydroponics so we're happy to show failures, but would be good if anyone knew what was going on with the plants for us to resolve. The electrical side Clint is pretty good at sorting but it's really down to nutrients & what the plants are needing at this stage. If this doesn't end up as easy as we anticipated we might try another method! Happy to answer any questions you have about our setup though too 😊
Unfortunately it looks like a fungal issue the downward drooping and cupping of the leaves plus the spots on some leaves, none of them look very happy if you get fruit and it is fungal it will be very obvious, be careful if it is you will need to sterilize the buckets and clay media before the next batch. Fungal issues would effect each breed differently to, some breeds are more fungal resistant than others.
I was looking forward to update on Hydroponics. Looks amazing. Was wondeing if the name Kratky means short(as it does in Polish). Thank you for sharing and good luck. Cheers
Ovens in general cost about 60c per hour if you wanted to allow for that (so cooking the bread for 30mins would cost 30c) and no I didn't figure out how much two cups of hot water cost (I usually do it just after I've boiled the jug for coffee so use a mix of that plus cold water so it doesn't cost me extra, but both the oven and water will vary a lot house-to-house depending on your appliances, electric or gas, price of power where you are etc and if you also cook other things in the oven at the same time (have dinner on the go as well) ... so very variable!
Hi, Not sure where you are, but we lived in West Melton, West of Christchurch, and the Nor'wester was really strong at times. Ribbonwood (Plagianthus Regia) is a good wind break, we had a lot of them around our rural property, quick growing too.
Yeah around our other boundaries we've got trees planted & might look at doing this one eventually, but we have raspberry bushes there at the moment where the trees would be. Thanks for the feedback!
I would put nutritional yeast into it to taste yeasty 😅 I don’t know if it will still keep nutrients of the yeast, but definitely will taste good… I even put it into my pancakes…
My 14yr old son is addicted to toasties and makes his own on the sandwich press. I'm showing him how to do this, he'll add to his cooking skills and I'll stop running out of bread 😊.
Hands down BESTEST toastie...seriously today's lunch I got all the ingredients and just gonna use water for the bread. And girl u need S&P 😝 Well done Sarzie on another epic recipe and video ❤
That looks so good, and easy as. I like it being made from nothing too, I bet that your family would love it, especially with the school holidays coming up
10:15 you don't iron my trousers & shirts like that dear........that's coz you don't have any dear.......True that guess what I want for christmas?.......to sleep on the couch?
I am so glad to find this recipe, I used to make this in my bread maker over 25 years ago. I lost the recipe in our move to a new home. I used different flavored sodas. It was easy and great. My husbands favorite.
Thank you for the normal length video I'm being honest about it. I can't expect to learn how to bake a rice bread in 30 picture clips. 😂 I've been trying another recipe but that didn't work and I want to try yours. I do have a question that I would like to ask you. Is it possible to simply mix the sugar and the yeast like you do for a normal flour recipe? Then add it to your batter. That way you can easily monitor the yeast and water temperature like you do for wheat flour bread?
That's a good question I've never though to do with with "normal" flour before! To be honest I'm not sure but I think it would work. I do have a recipe for a standard no-knead loaf that's super easy to bake in the oven if you're interested 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DcmtBMcGY0Y.html
I know right, a bit of effort but definitely worth it I reckon! I recently did an updated version of this too with some more up-to-date pricing :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lRQerJAUjj8.html
This year I've tried putting the bottom of a celery plant after all stalks have been used into the ground (they have been brought from the suppermarket) they seem to be taking off, fluishing. I also have silverbeet by the mile I let one go to seed and a celery last year, I highly recommend that 😊 I have yet to put a brown onion in the ground I did this last year and about 4 separate onions grew around the planted one 😊
Oh yeah I've done that with celery - mixed results but pretty cool when it does work! I've tried onions a few times and for some reason they just don't grow for me ... one day maybe!
I just use in sandwiches, wraps or breadrolls - doing some homemade burgers for dinner tonight so it'll be used in that too ... I also use quite a bit with nachos, as I do it kind of like a nacho-salad with lettuce in the mix, yummy!
I read “ an early spring “, and I thought what?…. And then I saw NZ, and it done on me that it’s different then here in US…😅😅😅😅… it smells like fall here, even some leaves are turning yellow…. Good luck with your crops for your growing season…. It’s so interesting to watch, because it’s so different from America… ❤
