Hi , I’ve got one of these pioneer pl70ii’s. Unfortunately the Colette chuck on the tonearm seems to be stuck and there is nothing in the owner’s manual about how to move it. Is there something holding it in place that needs to be released? Or should it move easily
Yes, I modelled the tonearms on Reed. They are beautiful and technically wonderful. In my case there is one ball bearing and stabilization with a magnet. It works great. :)
@@murasaudio2509 The Reed 3P is an ingenious design by having only 3 contact points for the bearing, one less than the Kuzma 4Point. My only quibble is its azimuth adjustment that by changing the position of the hanging bearing point is also changing the pivot point rendering the magnet to bearing point no longer a vertical straight line. In essence the adjustment knocks off all the other geometric parameters. It seems clever to have that adjustment but it suffers somewhere else. Your arm seems to have a fixed position which is ideal. All in all, very impressive.
For me, the azimuth adjustment works in a similar way. You're right. The deviation from the axis of action of the vertical bearing magnet causes the AS action to change, but this force and change is so minimal that even with highly compliant cartridges, it is imperceptible. For cartridges with low compliance, it is not necessary to adjust the AS at all. The magnetic suspension system works great for lateral balance. Sorry for my English. regards Paweł
@@murasaudio2509 Your English is excellent. I think your arm looks even better than the Reed. To adjust azimuth, it's probably best to adjust it on one of the two vertical spikes, although yours and Reed 3P do not have an offset angle to match the offset on the headshell, approximately 23 degrees.
@@murasaudio2509 I have the same set, and I'm also very impressed. :) I'm about to score a great deal on a new Accuphase, so it'll be interesting to see how they compare.
Hi how are you. I’m looking to buy a pioneer exclusive M4. I currently have a McIntosh MC2105. Do you think it would be an upgrade in the sound? How does the M4 compare to accuphase, gryphon, McIntosh?
@@user-ky5no2ir1q I haven't heard the MC2105, but I believe it'd likely be an upgrade in sound, so long as your speakers aren't extremely insensitive. The M4 is 50W of Class A, so it's a room heater. :)
