Hi! I love your videos. I'm looking to break out into doing more gigs (been teaching for a long time) but I don't know how to navigate it. My biggest obstacle is understanding the legality of things. Do you need to ask the venue if they have a blanket license for performers to play music? I've only ever played public domain (old classical) music but I'd love to do pop covers etc. I don't know who is responsible for having the license... also do you write your own covers and make your own backing tracks for performances or do you use a service of some sort? Might be some great topics for future videos! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Hi!! Thanks for saying hello and sharing your journey Robyn! I totally get it bc I was clueless about those too when I was starting from 0 which is why I put it all in my Harmony Mastery Accelerator which you want to check out. Depending on the venue, but usually I haven’t needed license to play. However the backing tracks and commercial licensing are different, so YES I do have to recreate & rearrange some backing tracks otherwise most are sold with diff licensings arranging about $60 per full commercial licensing track.
