The Constitution of Japan. CHAPTER II. RENUNCIATION OF WAR. Article 9. Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized. ※Under current legal interpretation, the Self-Defense Forces do not fall under "land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential," and are considered to have the minimum necessary right to self-defense. Amendments to this Constitution shall be initiated by the Diet, through a concurring vote of two-thirds or more of all the members of each House, and thereafter shall be submitted to the people for ratification, which shall require the affirmative vote of a majority of all votes cast, either at a special referendum or at such election as the Diet shall specify. Exclusively Defense is the basic stance of Japan's independent defense strategy since the end of World War II. "Exclusively defense" is described as a passive defense strategy that follows the spirit of the Constitution, in which defensive forces are only used in the event of an armed attack by the other side, the form in which they are used is limited to the minimum necessary for self-defense, and the defensive forces possessed are also limited to the minimum necessary for self-defense. This definition has been used in subsequent Cabinet decisions in responses to questions in the Diet. In other words, threatening attacks, preemptive attacks, retaliatory attacks, and attacks on enemy territory (with the exception of missile launch bases, etc.) are prohibited. To put it simply, "You can't shoot until you're shot." Furthermore, the Japanese Constitution prohibits military tribunals, so there is no military law. There are also no related laws that allow for the arrest of spies from other countries. To put it bluntly, Japan's security is a national defense strategy that assumes the presence of U.S. forces in Japan.
@@DomWeasel On the contrary, they are now expected to be the vanguard of the anti-China movement. In reality, they probably want to use the Japan Self-Defense Forces to maintain peace in East Asia and the Pacific, which is convenient for America.
@@arahard25017 The US wanted to turn Japan into a helpless puppet after WW2 without ever thinking about the ramifications of such an act in the region. They never considered the possibility of China being a threat. Now as you say they expect Japan as one of the foremost economies in the region to be the lead in the Anti-China bloc, except Japan is hamstringed by the constitution the US forced on them.
In the 77 years since the end of the war, Japan's SDF has not engaged in combat or murder in other countries. but The United States has encouraged Japan to rearm, and the Korean War is the background to this. And in 2024, the United States expects Japan to act as a bulwark against China. Of course, Japan has no intention of sending troops to the continent as in the 20th century, and it does not have the economic and military power to do so. As a Japanese person, I believe that Japan is aiming for a Swiss-style defense strategy. However, it is also true that Japan's vassal state status in the United States cannot be erased. In Japan, the war in Ukraine has sparked debate over whether to resume arms exports, the first since the Korean War, and plans are underway to develop a new generation of fighter jets in cooperation with the UK and Italy.
The rivalry between the IJA and IJN seems so utterly mad but when you read some of the things the different branches of the US military say about each other and how the politicians who've served in different branches have shown blatant favouritism, you can understand how such a culture is fostered and nurtured. And festers.
the casualties the americans suffered in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns due to the fanatical and suicidal resistance of the japanese was a significant factor in the decision to use the atomic bomb.hundreds of thousands of US and millions of japanese lives would have been lost in an invasion of the home islands. orders had been given by japanese high command to murder all POWs and civilian internees should japan itself be invaded.
actually the guy should be happy because he doesnt have to die here and can sit in the mainland until the war ends...not sure why he looks so unhappy...and btw, US intel suggested that it would take them 5 days to take the island, and the battle lasted more than a month. and, like tarawa or peleliu, there is a lot of debate on whether it was actually worth it to invade these islands. a lot of people dont know iwo jima was used as an emergency air field for B29 bombers and potential launch sit for shorter range B24 bombers, which never happened, and not that many B29 landed due to emergercies. the island was not very good as a naval base or infantry base, it was actually not that useful to capture this island...and nearby island that were not invaded continue to use radar to detect US bombers and sent warning signals back to the mainland...
Tadamichi Kuribayashi is perhaps the most underrated commander of the Axis Powers. Not only was he a skilled, pragmatic general who inflicted some of highest casualty rates the United States ever suffered during the war, but he was also a compassionate, rational human being. He evacuated civilians so they wouldn’t get caught in the crossfire, he shared the hardships of his men living in appalling conditions, he visited wounded soldiers in the hospital, he forbade the use of banzai charges (believing them to be futile and a waste), and he openly opposed going to war with the U.S. (believing it to be last nation Japan should fight). It is said that the Japanese government sent Kuribayashi to Iwo Jima, knowing he wouldn’t make it off alive. Kuribayashi himself knew defending Iwo Jima was an inevitable defeat, but he also knew if the U.S. captured it, Japan would be in full range of American bombers. If defending Iwo Jima meant protecting his nation’s civilians from those bombs for even a little while longer, then he would gladly defend that island to his last breath. The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for over a month and resulted in nearly 28,000 American casualties, and it climaxed with group of Japanese soldiers launching a sneak attack on an American encampment before being wiped out. It is said this group of Japanese soldiers was led by Kuribayashi himself, making him one of last generals to lead from the front and die in the front. The reason his body wasn’t identified in the aftermath is because he wore the uniform of a common soldier, not an officer. Tadamichi Kuribayashi was one of the best men the Axis Powers had to offer during the war and it’s a shame he isn’t widely known like Erwin Rommel. I honestly can’t thank this film enough for giving him the recognition he rightfully deserves. Rest In Peace General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (1891-1945).
Banzai charges were banned since 1904 since the Siege of Port Arthur. By 1944 Banzai charges were more of a thing you do if the situation has truly gone dire. But of course in Iwo Jima it was a completely different story, most of the garrison was already demoralized and the hope of reinforcements coming was all but for nothing. So Banzai charges were done mostly out of desperation.
bro are you just copy and pasteing this comment everywhere? the same comment has already been posted on another video by you. You are obviously very proud of your comment and you want attention :D well: great comment we are all proud of your cute analysis and recognition that he was a great general.
He only served briefly as the chief of staff of an army and otherwise was only commanding a division. As a divisional commander you do not strategically think out of the box in the way rommel or other field marshals did so he cannot be compared to them, he has no noteworthy achievements. In Iwo jima he used the difficult terrain to his advantage, but since world war two brought up thousands of generals like him most of them would have more or less been able to do the same thing. Iwo jima was doomed right from the start and he only perhaps postponed the inevitable outcome a little bit longer than another general would have.
He's not skilled, he's not pragmatic, much less rational minded. The disgust is well placed considering the situation of most of the world in 2023 for the sake of common sense. The concepts are ludicrous. Do businesses that are successful operate like this? Why are we being asked to accept nonsense like its scripture?
We need full episodes with narration uploaded 😂 "Will performs a planking manouvre and then grinds up and down very awkwardly on top of a disappointed looking blonde girl"
This movie opened my eyes and made me stop and think that not all of America's enemies were savages they were patriots who wanted to go back home also.
that's true for the most part. But the Japanese were notoriously brutal throughout their conquest of Asia and did numerous atrocities to POWs and civilians
As a former japan occupied country, we actually support japan war against allied country, because we see japan as our liberators. But everything was change when your troops being mean and harassed our innocent people, not mention the suffering because our resources is taken for the war efforts, in the end our love turned into hatred.....
It's actually crazy to think about - you dig all day, then you sleep then wake up and dig some more all the while not knowing when the enemy will come. Could be tomorrow could be next month. Hey maybe they'll bypass the island and never come who knows. Will the tunnels even work? Will you starve before the Americans come? Like Eugene Sledge said on Okinawa "War is mostly waiting". I cannot imagine being in that constant state of not knowing. Living off rations and hoping you'll last just one more day.
The japanese lost the battle or did they? They lost over 90% of the garrision yet inflicted the most casulties in marine history on a 5 mile island with little food, water, ammunition, and no air/sea support...Wierd statistic. Thanks to Kurayabashi and the commander of okinawa...they scared the shit out of the americans to invade the mainland lol
"If our children can live safely for one more day it would be worth the one more day that we defend this island." I would have been sold right then and there. But I am american so I don't fully know what a Japanese soldier would have said or done hearing this.
funny that he talks about keeping children safe, when his companions raped and/or slaughtered hundreds of thousands of chinese women and young girls and tortured to death or best case scenario simply killed and equal number of men and young boys. These fuckers deserved to be fire bombed.
That answer of kuribagiasi made my veins run with loyalty blood. I would die for that man defending a small hole on the sea even if the enemy was 18 to 1!!! Hail japanese warrior general from a greek man. We need Men real Men like him in nowdays.
@@stoggafllik every civilisation had its prime days. The Babylonians, the Chinese, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Persians, the Romans, the British….all made invaluable contributions to the world. But their time came and went. Just the way of the world
In a hideous sort of way. The extent they went to defend Iwo was part of the calculation to drop the atomic bombs later. Figured if they’d do all that for Iwo then japans main islands must be all tunnels
@@charliep5139 That is nowhere even true. Battle of Savo Island? 58 Japanese casualties vs 1077 Americans? Philippines? 4000 Japanese vs 25000 Americans?
Battle iwo jima victims is : America 100.000 army, total victim is 30.000 people and dead 20.000 people... Japan 20.000 army, total victim is 15.000 all dead and survive just 5000 people...Imagine If japanese have more ammo, less water and food,i thing victims in side america is more more much again, tadamichi tactics defends is killer and powerful, hes a brilliant general japanese have it...?!
@@memorarenz Yeah there is no way you are going through those tunnels with only 6,821 dead, especially since the soldiers at Iwo Jima were seasoned veterans.....
The most epic fight in the series right here. The rematch we all wanted. Ending with the most tear-jerking conclusion, from child prodigy to heartless warrior to savior, making the ultimate sacrifice for everyone. Even his rival. Proving that dbz isn't just fighting, the show itself has soul.
I remember this being the third battle my grandma was on (America) he was on tinian and Saipan before never said hate once. But I knew just now from talking to him this was the worst battle.
I watched this movie with him and I felt bad for inviting him. he was a decorated war vet that tried to forget it and only came to see if for his grand son and cuz my grandmother said he’d be fine , I feel like a pieced shirt now.
My grandpa was in Saipan as well (I am Japanese). Crazy to think about how long its been since the war ended, and I pray for those who died on both side.
@@yoshikiyamaguchi5295 Nothing but respect for the people who fought and died on both sides. They were hard men back then, a different breed. I'm glad the war is over and that Japan and USA are friends now. /From Sweden
