Her band is on a ridiculous groove here (that bass playing is on another level), and Tori's her usual amazing self murdering that Bösendorfer piano through the end of the song. The whole performance just GROOVES. An excellent performance over all, and I really miss this era when ridiculously talented artists like Tori Amos actually could end up on like MTV and be considered "mainstream".
I was born in 1997 and the footage is of 1998 watching in 2023 Fck I do have a good taste in music, im blessed. came here coz of Netflix series - Beef.
Boy were we blessed to have the likes of Tori, Kate, Leonard and Prince , Nick Cave all at one and the same time. Such talent, such big things to say. God loves them.
I watch this performance almost every week. Just a phenomenal performance. Just wondering is her current shows as good. She is playing in Dublin next year and was considering going. I have seen her live
The piano section, and the force it has in the song is prominent. I am very sorry to say she has not taken full advantage of this beautifull song in her career...
I was in the crowd. I fancied her a lot from her music videos that had been out in the 90s. I was mesmerised watching her. Never forgot it. I swear she looked right at me too. Ha ha
I'm a piano / keyboard guy, and I'm always in awe of Tori's skills. But I also have to give a shout out to her drummer. Pay close attention, and you'll hear some incredible drumming!
Other than the three genius musicians in Rush, I haven't experienced three musicians so in tune with each other and so talented to boot. Tight as hell!!!!
she plays piano the way a rock star plays guitar, moving her body as much as the instrument allows, improvising and showing off like a rock god ego-tripping with a dramatic solo as if time has ceased to exist and it's just him and the guitar, the only things in the entire world. but she doesn't lose herself in the music; she rather becomes herself, and steps into her power. her other performances are full of passion and emotional intensity, and she brings effortless freedom and uninhibited energy to every show, but this one in particular has an almost exaggerated bravado and swagger i've never seen a woman emulate so strongly. but it's not that she's possessed by the music; she possesses it. sometimes she lightly teases and flirts with the piano as if it's her plaything, and appears to seduce the audience, slowly trapping them under her spell; but here, she fully dominates and straddles the instrument. there is a raw primal sexuality to her that is simultaneously very masculine and very feminine. other female singers attack the crowd, snarling from a place of deep pain and darkness, but she pays them no mind, simply kicks the piano's ass and acts on whatever urge she feels. i think she genuinely lives in her own world, does everything for her own pleasure and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks of her, but also enjoys being in the centre of attention and shamelessly soaks up as much of the spotlight as she can absorb into herself. no one can tame her. she'll bite your face off before you have a chance to open your mouth, and forget you ever existed in the next three seconds. she is a narcissist, an exhibitionist, a brazen androgynous rebel and everything i aspire to be.
She also really, REALLY enjoyed playing back then. She was really open about it. And that's all I'm going to say about that. People can figure out the rest... or not.
