Actually one of the best reviews of JK and MotS I have come across. The lack of buildup or explanation about what exactly the temple on Dromund Kaas was is doubly terrible given what it is in the lore. Sariss was born there, and Jerec learned about the valley of the jedi there.
I was an original beta test player for Diablo 1 back in 1996. It was revolutionary. As much as DOOM, it was a total have changer. The *feeling* that I got from playing that game has not been reproduced on any other game since. It felt so damn good to play it in the dark. I was working my first job as a programmer. I would stay late after work to play it because my home computer was not as fast. So damn good.
I played the first Marathon on a Mac II with a Radius Rocket 25mhz 68040 accelerator card in it... it just barely worked. By the time Marathon 2: Durandal came out, we had gotten a Power Mac 8100, and the now PowerPC native game engine worked MUCH better. I still have my Marathon Infinity box on my bookshelf. Yeah.... I'm old. 😐
@@HeyBlondieGamer other then a cut quest involving a npc named Tremaine telling you about a demon names fleshdoom wielding a cursed sword that you kill then you bring him the sword and It will kill him, you then take the sword to the hellforge to destroy it and complete the quest, aside from asure wrath it's the only quest that involves a sword so that's the only theory I had but its flimsy at best sense I have 0 proof
Because it is better then the shitshow they call Diablo 4. That game is just no fun solo. First everything is waay too easy. And now all everybody does is fast level in helltide. The diablo was never this bad. And iam not even using online builds. WE DONT NEED A GOOGLE AMOUNT OF ITEM DROP OR 1000 ENEMIES TO KILL IN 1 BLOW. Legendary ? No take sacred legendary ? No take this shitty next level legendary. O no there is even better legendary level after this. The gameplay is good and the stats/items customizations are also cool. But the leveling and difficulty design and is utter utter... utter thrash.
I think they need to add one difficulty that's harder than cero miedo but easier than duskmare, and that is my one and only complaint with this amazing game. That and the fact that recently equipped weapons don't save when you die or QL, and instead get replaced by the sickles by default.
I couldn't ignore this video and after seeing it I couldn't feel anything other than melancholy for the good and bad times I went through. I knew I wasn't good at this but it's there I still can't leave the area I tried but I'll just embrace the idea of holding on for a while longer. Yes it's just a rambling but I'm glad to share it with people who like anomaly
That’s YT with its trends. I made this video a while ago to (hopefully) draw more interest in Marathon. If a Steam release generates buzz, I won’t complain.
It was Epic’s choice and they will forever follow the money. It would have cost them peanuts to keep Unreal on store fronts. I can’t fathom why you would turn your back on your own legacy the way that Sweeney has.
fantastic video - just wanna clarify that the character has a quote for every new environment. While it may not be enough to really flesh out the perspective of the player - it helps
I just picked it up on GOG for 10 bucks the other day and wow I feel like i got robbed of what should have been a core childhood memory by not having this game at release
I'm loving this series, listening to it while grinding missions in Anomaly to pimp my Exosuit. One interesting side effect (intended?), whenever there's gunfire, anomaly sounds, or blind dog barks in the video, I drop everything I'm doing and start looking around to find the threat. It's making my playthrough more stressful, in a fun way
What Diablo one offers is atmosphere. To this the first quest and the line “ah fresh meat” is still burned in my mind. The fact you can’t run is also scary since you feel the claustrophobic corridors as you fight hordes of monsters
Finally somebody voiced my memories of this game, even if it was glitchy at the start, it was the best thing made me forget about quakes and half-lives
genuinely fantastic analysis, i've been working on my own in-depth analysis (although as a new comer) of this series. it's one hell of ride.... would love to see your thoughts on 2 and infinty!
Hey, cheers, glad you enjoyed it! I’d love to hear your thoughts as a newcomer, drop a link to your video when it’s ready. I plan on covering Durandal later this year and possibly Infinity next year.
to be honest anomaly is meh at best and at worst a complete waste of time its just a fork of last day on a 64 bit engine therefore most of it's "unique" mechanics are just ripped from misery or somewhere else and if you strip it of the insane amounts of artificial difficulty, and you get rid of the poorly implemented crafting system, its just as barebones as call of chernobyl was. its insane to me that this mod has caught on so much in the western community while actual good freeplay mods and just mods in general like the lost world series, and the zaurus crew pentalogy, which are both classics beloved by the entire eastern community, have never really caught on on the western side other than all the zaurus crew mods getting pretty good translations, and most of the lost world mods other than LW 3.0, Irbismod, and LW 2.0 (then again 2.0 is lost because it hasnt resurfaced on any sites and irbis deleted it from his hard drive years and years ago so even if someone wanted to translate it they couldnt) have gotten absolute garbage translations that are barely readable. also yes yes i know this is just my opinion other people can think differently bla bla bla
Isn’t that the lineage of many modpacks though? They all seem to build upon a previous iteration (or 2 or 3). GAMMA is a textbook case, taking the core Anomaly package and building it out with elements from other modpacks. I take heart in the notion that Stalker modding fans care so much for the other material to include it in their own modpacks. I have yet to give Misery and some of the older modpacks a try, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of the Zaurus crew. There appear to be some mods on moddb so I’ll give them a look, thanks for the suggestion. Drop any other mods you reckon are worth checking out. Perhaps I’ll do a dedicated mod video one day.
I played the first game a month ago and I agree that Colony Ship is way less annoying then that last bit of the last level... the previous one you get warped back to btw is named "Try Again", they knew what they were doing. Pretty sure I spent more time wandering Sunbathing too. Also, the area right after finishing Colony Ship intros the exploding Bobs. I easily imagine some people figuring all that out, then getting blown up ten seconds into the next level, and having to do it all over again. I gotta praise reviewers like you and Mandalore for clarifying how the low gravity is part of traversal because that probably saves new players the most pain.
Hah, yeah they knew what they were doing alright. Some levels won’t feature a save buffer for some time so it pays to be cautious. I’m pretty sure those exploding BOBs got me the first time 😂 G4 Sunbathing’s corridors look similar, I’m pretty sure I wandered that level for hours my first time through. I can see a lot of players losing their bearings and asphyxiating many MANY times. Cheers for that. The physics are a core element of gameplay, but it’s the little time-saving tricks that are the most appreciated. Sometimes a simple grenade hop saves a lot of frustration.
I forgot about this game for the past 26 years, and wasn't reminded about it until 2024. Even after NEVER playing it or even seeing gameplay, something about Unreal has intrigued me to play it, despite how old of a game it is. Even with the Quake 1 and 2 remasters, I still find myself playing Unreal Gold over those, just because it was just that much more impressive, interesting, and I dare say, better of an experience to play in comparison.
It’s a curious timepiece that is unique, I’ve never seen a game replicate the original Unreal. I’d like to believe that this is why new players who never grew up with Unreal still decide to play it.
42:53 fucking THANK you. Colony Ship isn't any where near as bad as its made out to be. It's a pretty simple puzzle. Those last levels are an endurance run to test to see if your battleroid nuts are big enough.
I really enjoyed this video. This was the best advertisement and “love letter” for Unreal and all its glory, and your vocabulary is as poetic as the game’s own stunning visuals and immersion. Bravo! This game actually released the year before I was born and I got hooked on it thanks to my dad. I still play to this day on a Windows 11 gaming laptop, believe it or not (although some chicanery was required to retrofit these old Unreal series games to a modern machine and it’s not 100% without the occasional hiccup, but it works pretty well 98% of the time). I’m actually somewhat of a collector now and have every title from Unreal Gold to UT3 in the “big box” edition (Thanks, eBay!). This is a nostalgia and greatness which I will preserve forever. And thanks to the community’s endless creation of custom add-on campaigns, the journey never ends as I can always explore new adventures in a familiar world!
Thank you so much! 🙏 I wasn’t expecting so many people to find this video, but it’s heartening to know that you’re all out there and that you love Unreal as much as I did. Also, hats off to you for you seeking out and preserving the original copies, that’s something I should have done a while ago.
The voice logs not playing between levels in RTNP is indeed a glitch. Every level has a voice log at its end. If they aren’t triggering, you can try exiting the level a different way, such as lunging into it quickly, walking into it slowly, or even using ghost mode to approach the level end from behind. This is probably a result of the audio logs sometimes being triggered by a hitbox too small to always touch.
I like that everything explodes, but the single impulse flash lacks the feeling of weight and risk of those stacking, lingering, chain of explosion billboard sprites that are iconic of GE/PD destructibles.
I usually compare the Diablo franchise with the Terminator franchise: Diablo - The Terminator: Story-telling is fairly straight-forward, dark and gloomy atmosphere, a horror game/movie. Diablo 2 - Terminator 2: Much bigger, less horror, more action, much deeper story/lore - many considered this to be some of the best of all time. Diablo 3 - Terminator 3: While impressive in some technical aspects, it doesn't really add anything new and feels more like a cash grab.
OMG PLEASE continue this with the other Diablo games! I went into this kinda just looking to kill time (since I can't seem to kill Diablo at the moment), and wound up staying for the whole thing and loving it! I can't wait to see more of your other stuff. Thank you for this!
I'm from the future (2024) and just attempted a playthrough of D1 (after noticing it was available on Blizzard) and found it is many times more difficult than it used to be. I've now spent 20+ hrs and I'm literally stuck feeling like I have to cheat just to beat the game now! Played it all the way through literally hundreds of times 20 years ago and never once had to even come close to quitting or cheating. I don't know what the flip they did when they remastered it, but it's way more difficult now than it ever was. And, no, that's not just me being spoiled on newer games. I just did a playthrough of the original from my now destroyed disc 3 years ago and waltzed through the game.
Hmm, I didn’t realize that Blizzard had made it available, they’ve been so adverse to even mentioning D1 over the last decade or more I just assumed they forgot it existed 😂 I wonder if the GOG version is faithful to the ‘original’ version. I didn’t struggle but it certainly wasn’t a cakewalk with a sorcerer. The warrior was fairly easy until Hell where you had to slow down a little to avoid being overwhelmed.
They didn’t really have the authority, but they believed in their vision enough to ignore Brevik’s instruction and craft a better ending. As much as don’t condone that behaviour, you can’t argue with the result.
