The fact that this modification allows the mag to fall freely is enough alone to want to do it but, you also get the benefit of having a weapon that will still go “bang” without the mag, should you actually want and, need it to. I consider removing the MD a modification that actually increases the shooter’s safety.

I’m using a big drill press a slide Vice and roughing mills the aluminum hogs out easy with those and no jigs but u gotta move everything right or it’ll have ugly buggers. Clamped up between soft pine to hold tight. Yours looks oks factory

Good info, but 90% of stuff in the camera frame is not needed. Zoom in on the gun and explain how to disassemble and remove parts

It says in the manual "Do Not Disassemble The Bolt" so I would assume Savage put red loc-tite on it before they torqued it. Red loc-tite fails at 360 degrees. But I would contact Savage customer service about it before you take it off.

Okay, three things I have to say. One, you push the cocking pin like a boss. It took me a while to get that with a very long screw driver. I’m working on a 300 W mag. Second, no one can over describe how tight Savage made that bolt. I used many towels, my body weight, and a framing hammer to pop it. I’m not proud of that but that’s what it took and I reached a point where it was either him or me. Third, thank you. I successfully installed my new fluted bolt housing because of this video.

First thing I noticed. Love the T-shirt. FYI: I was given a cheap pocket watch when I was a child, (I am 63 now.) I took it completely apart. Never did figure out how to put it back together. :-) Needles to say: "My Daddy was not very happy with me." Thank you for the video. I always look for the good videos before I take any gun down. Even if I think I know what I am doing. Never hurts to refresh. I will always remember that watch. Again, Thank you.

I suggest not pushing the retaining pin all the way out, but just back to the sear deactivation lever. It's one less step for reassembly and one less chance of losing parts. Keep everything level, or the pin might slide out anyway.

A magazine disconnect is dangerous and foolish. That one shot with the mag dislodged my be your only chance to survive in a physical confrontation.

Finally got the thing to break. I needed to get the firing pin out so I can adjust my sizing die. You take a fired case and make tiny adjustments to the die until you can just close the bolt on the case with no tension on the bolt. The pin has to be out or the Springs will give false readings.
