Thank you for the interesting question! While this technique can be done on any watercolor paper, the quality and composition of the paper can affect the results. Paper with a higher cotton content absorbs paint well, and the highlights may turn out to be less light. Conversely, paper with less cotton content makes it easier to lift the paint, resulting in brighter lightened areas. For techniques like 'lifting off paint,' it's best to use paper with a thickness of 140 lbs / 300 gsm or more. In this video, I'm using paper that is 140 lbs with 25% cotton content. Happy painting!
