This was just the comparison I needed. I've always used coated heads with clear resos and they have a booming, sing song quality about them. I recently decided to try something new and got clear batters with coated resos and was a little worried it would sound off or weird. I actually think they sound good (at least in this demo). They have a punchy attack but a more controlled sound on the end. Just what I was going for.
So glad to hear. I love the clear top/coated bottom combo mop. All the attack, and brightness you want, but with warm controlled sustain. I rocked an EC2 top/G1 coated bottom on my Ludwig QBB kit that I used with my cover band while recovering from my broken ankle. (As soon as I was able to gig that is). Thank you so much for watching.
im putting a brand new snare rail on mine with new strings so they dont have markings.. do you center the wires or the whole rail? cause the wires arent centered on the rail! and do you center it with the snares on or off? i made sure it was level left to right but it sounds like absolute garbage 😢😢 pls help!
In the video i actually measured my string markings. Try those to see if it helps. Also the frame should be centered, not the wires. I’d suggest rolling the frame height adjustment knob to just above the middle of its range, and install the marked strings with the strainer off.
@@KennySharrettsthx for the response! i tried those measurements and i dont think they apply to a 5" drum :/ but i will try centering the rail which i wasnt doing thank you!
Awesome video! I just came across a sweet Slingerland kit that was sitting in a barn, has rust on the chrome and needs polishing, now I know what to do!
On each Tom yes the Reso is a perfect 4th higher than the batter. Also I a perfect 4th between 16” and 14” floors, and a perfect 4th between the 14” floor, and the 12” Tom. Thank you for watching, and commenting. If you want to learn step by step how I got these Tom tunings while helping to support my channel go to www.kennysharretts.com/video-courses and check out the video “How To Make Small Toms Sound Like Big Toms” as a stand alone lesson or in one of my 3 value priced Lesson Packs.
Thank you for the kind words, and for watching. I try to just be myself, and offer helpful information. I hope the discount code is useful/helpful for you.
You should do a video on obtaining the Alex Van Halen snare sound. It’s very challenging. Many people have attempted it on RU-vid but have failed. I know you can do it. 👍
Not a bad idea. I’ll look into doing some recreations soon. Still getting my footing after the passing of my wife. I will say Rick Beato did a pretty darn good job on his Alex Van Halen snare sound recreation.
Your videos are amazing and refreshing. Thanks for the knowledge from a PRO who knows what they are doing. I have been playing for 30 plus years and outside of "crank it up" I have not mastered the tuning process. I will definitely check out your site for more info. Stoked to try this stuff out.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Much appreciated. I’ve learned a lot during 23 years of being a pro drum tech, and I feel it’s important to pass it on. The lessons on my website teach real world knowledge that is road tested, and most importantly dependably repeatable. You WILL learn how to get easily the drum sound you want every time you tune. I have that cymbal bag, in black, and it’s great! I also have the larger leather Tackle stick bag, and it’s also great. Maybe I need the smaller jazz stick case too!
Man thank you so much for the kind words. If you wish to up your tuning skills, and help support my channel, please check out the step by step lesson packs at www.kennysharretts.com/video-courses
It is aluminum. It’s the new Rogers Aluminum Dyna-Sonic, and it’s absolutely fabulous. Tuning demo coming soon. Thank you so much for watching, and commenting.
Thank you for the kind words, and for watching. Because of the proximity to the drums this is common with the EAD. Experiment with EQ/Effects settings as well as placement of the toms. If the totally block the mics, the cymbals will not be as audible. I use 1 Tom up and 1 floor so I had to adjust my ride placement, and the mic balance to keep the ride from being too loud.
Congrats on the new kit. Tama makes great drums. I’m glad you like the video. To learn how to get these tunings step by step, please check out the full lesson either stand alone or in a value priced lesson pack on my website at www.kennysharretts.com/video-courses Thank you for watching.
The reborn Rogers Drums are alive, and well. You can find this drum here at Sweetwater Rogers Drums Dyna-sonic Snare Drum - 6.5 x 14 inch - Black Diamond with Beavertail Lugs sweetwater.sjv.io/B0VMVq
@@KennySharretts I am the original owner of a WMP Cleveland set that my parents bought for me in 1965 for $500.00 (w/Zildjian 18" ride & 14'' HH's)! Nothing sounds as good as them. How do the new Rogers stack up?
pretty darn well. Check and see for yourself in this comparison video I did. ROGERS DRUMS NEW VS VINTAGE COMPARISON feat. JASON CORBIERE ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6NZEEMm_k4.html
I've used the Ahead dual snare padded case for years. It's great to have a back up just in case...pun intended.. :) I''m looking for this version in the dual now. Thanks for the video.
Bf my ….. as…k How many times we should tell you you can not tune the drum ! Those people just make you sound like stupid because you cannot understand. Just play the F drum and shut up ! Play with the band . There is the sound !!!!
Surprisingly, there is no patent for adding a layer of supporting plastic to a soft case. I’ve noticed over the years how many soft case manufacturer’s designs are influenced by the design innovations of other soft case makers. In this case, the Ahead artist inspired the company to create a more protective case which included adjustments to the classic Ahead design. That simple. Thank you for watching. Much appreciated.
I'm not sure if they will. I'm pretty sure the ABS re-inforced sides would prevent you from sliding it into place. For those two drums I'd try the Dyna - Sonic Ahead Cas.e as it has a trench for the dyna rail, and can stretch a bit. Thank you for watching, and commenting.
very nice! are these available worldwide yet? or jsut in the USA for now? as im gigging every single week and want something to protect my snares more than the regular ahead cases :)

Kenny, I'm spamming your videos with comments because you are the man. It's such a breath of fresh air to find someone speaking so intelligently, thoughtfully, and passionately about the minutia of drum sounds. As a regular joe playing drums at home and trying to record for fun with my buddy, it is MASSIVELY helpful to have this content. Thank you!
I have complained to seemingly no avail about drummers talking about tuning as if there's no nuance. "Put the head on the drum. Seat it with your first, and remove the wrinkles. There you go!" Absolutely infuriating lol. Finally, someone who talks about the complexities that make drum tuning super difficult to people without tons of experience.
Crazy how some drum channels will post a "tuning tutorial" and go into absolutely no information about how to actually tune the drum other than the one way that works for that person. You actually went over the methodology and different examples of specific things you can try on your drum. That's actually useful. Thanks a ton.
Dude I realize this 7 year old video… but knowledge is knowledge. After the 2nd tape was added- I immediately thought of John Bonham sound. Not a metal drummer but still. Lol I dig your videos and knowledge man.👍
First of all thank you for the kind words. Alas no I usually just play what I feel will feature the tuning well. Thank you so much for watching, and commenting.
@@KennySharretts without the spike, the kit crept. Its a shame, i use meinl usually. Still going strong after 10 years. Bought this as i love the design. Its in my spare bedroom/ gym.
«With a good nut on it. When you lock it, it stays there tight»… (???) The Ahead Spinal G is certainly a good throne, but it's not possible to prevent it from spinning with this nut. Should have been better to leave the choice to the drummer: Spinning or non-spinning. Even if this throne is well built in general, this nut is a real pain in the b….
