I don't think you will make a wrong decision but I would go with the Plat. It just has more of that 1911/2011 feel and you just can't go wrong with something that takes Glock style mags. However, if you go that route, you will have a little bit of a wait time for the build.
@bluepstu9009 Thanks mate, I'm down here in Oz where it's hard to get things to try and it's exxy. The DWX OR is available now for $4.6k AUD and the Platypus may be available in a yr for 1k less. I think I might wait out for the Platy.
One thing that would’ve helped with the “snappiness” would be if you would have chose the Bul Barrel option, it honestly does a lot to help keep the barrel aimed down range.
Like most things I order, the options improve right after I received mine. :) I def would have chosen the bull barrel and more aggressive grip. It just wasn't an option when I built mine.
It is a Nitrofin made by shooting sports innovations. It will need a little modification. I had to grind off the tab on the back side of it so the magazine would fit. Has been running great. No problems whatsoever.
Because they use an Atlas plate, you have to order special screws from Atlas that they have made specifically for Holosun optics to work with their plate.
How is that chainlink surface at the front of the slide? Is it easy to grip for front racking or is it a little bit slippery and the standard 1911 cuts would be better?
Ha. I gotcha. I appendix carry a lot and these are both great options. However, I am really liking the X Macro Comp now. It really fits in the hand so well. Love the capacity on such a slim firearm.
Awesome video, but I'm very disappointed in watchtower. The trigger was advertised as a 2.2 lb, and I've heard so many people talking about how they are garbage. I don't think you should have to spend more money on something that was supposed to come a certain way. I'm still waiting for my pew view Apache, and i ordered it on November 3 2023. I haven't bothered watchtower about it as im hoping they get the kinks figured out and mine comes as it was advertised. As far as youtubers getting good ones, im sure they send out good ones to them. As that equals sales for them.
I def don't think that people are getting them in the proper order of when they put in their order. I did get mine from Kovert, I placed my order in Feb and got it mid June. The gun is great. Trigger should have been better. That was an easy fix. I got it down to 2lbs or a little under. I think some of their guns were put together by gunsmiths who knew how to tune guns and some were put together by people who just knew how to put a gun together. Once they saw the gun would test fire, they shipped it off. I do believe you will enjoy it. (Even if it were to have some kinks that need addressing.) From my videos, you can see that I have owned guns at this price point and higher but I believe this will be my favorite, if it continues it's reliability.
@bluepstu9009 That's exactly what I'm thinking is going on. They posted to higher more gun smiths. Unfortunately this isn't my first 2011, I also own some expensive ones. So my standards are higher and I do expect to get what was advertised and I paid for. This is also why I'm not pressuring to get it as I've waited almost 2 years for a 2011 🤣
I believe I had the 1 7/8 long tube stainless headers and the catted xpipe. You would just go to Kooks website and see the one that fits your year. I used the stock exhaust of the C7. Hope this helps.
Just subbed👍. I have someone who wants to trade one of these for my H&K G36. Sounds like he already replaced the grips with metal grips. I’m a little hesitant hearing some of the issues. I’m currently without a 2011. I have a Luago Alien Retro full kit & a really nice Alchemy Prime Elite Carry .45 1911. Looking at the SandHawk & Erebus as well.
@@tomharper8351 I definitely would not hesitate if I were you. It seems like the few that have had issues are the ones who are doing the most posting. You just don’t hear too many people post up the good things. They have made about 500 so farand I’ve not heard of more than 10 people having an issue. The one issue I had was the chamber was a little too tight so I had it reamed out a little bit. Have now gone about 900 flawless rounds since I had that done.
I'll be honest with you , ever since getting the Watchtower Apache, the MPA has been put to the side and it will be a backup. It has held up well and I have no complaints. I just wanted a gun with a comp and the grip is a little smaller on the Apache. It fits so well in my hand. I am really liking it.
Was very pleased. Finished 4th overall in pistol and 1st in open for the whole match. This was even counting that I had 10 seconds in penalties. (Didn't shoot at one target and I hit a no shoot.)
@@bluepstu9009 did the kit include simulators? I just ordered this unit. Could you please make a in cabin video driving around? Right now my Z51 is insanely quiet. I can’t hear a damn thing except for the fuel injectors ticking behind me lol
@@jass7981 You have to buy simulators separate. Here is a little vid that I did from the inside. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KEdMuAWprgs.html
Thanks for sharing your honest feedback! Can you provide a pic of the new grips. I couldn’t see your grips. How do you tell the difference between the 3d grips vs the newer?
Probably the easiest way to tell by looking was the old grips look like the had little indents all over them. They looked like golf ball dimples. The new grips are much more solid and almost have tiny little cube or triangle shapes around them. Hope this helps.
How is the stealth for carry? I’m leaning towards this. I carry a full size Glock 40 now. I know it’s a little heavier and I’m okay with that. Just interested in your thoughts.
To be honest with you , I have the commander size and would be fine with it. It does not feel that heavy. I have not had any experience with the full size.
Yes sir. That is the one. I have a local guy who is trying to mix colors together to make it match the bronze type color of the other pieces. If he gets it to match well. I will post up some pic/vids.
Please do share the info on the color. I have this as well and have found the safeties are digging into my hand to the point of me not wanting to keep it. I did reach out to watchtower and I’m sending it to them. So far they’ve been great about wanting to take care of the pistol. I honestly think it’s a design thing. The ambI side angles down at the back and is digging in as well as the bottom corner is sharp. I want to swap for atlas safeties, but the color on this thing is beautiful. I don’t want to lose it…hoping watchtower can smooth them out for me, but not sure if they’re gonna send me any that are much better…anyway, if you end up getting a color match I would love to send some parts to get them coated…my trigger is gritty also and not any lighter than my P. P is MUCH smoother. Thanks 👍
Man WHERE did you get the THUMB LEDGE?? I've got plans to get a Platypus, but was all kinds bummed that it wasn't that option, (that I know of), to order from them. All my other higher end semi auto handguns like my Beretta 92X Performance and my Beretta 92 Elite LTT from Langdon I have put the thumb rest/gas pedal on, or ordered with it like the Sig P226 X5 Legion. Cool review btw, and cool gun. I just subscribed to your channel! So where did ya get it, and what's the model#???
Thank you sir. I got it from Shooting sports innovations. They actually have a picture of my gun on their site. You will order one for the 2011. They will tell you which one to get for the Plat and what kind of modifying you will need to do to get it to work. You actually have to grind off the tab on the back of it to get the magazines to seat. Hope this helps. Thanks for subscribing!
Wow... It seems the DS9 was winning until the last... I guess it depends on the shooter... I wonder if ports will help, I forgot to mention that the DS9 I ordered will be coming with barrel porting. 😎
I love both but the Apache is flatter and when i am practicing the double taps with speed are def tighter than the DS9. I would like to try a DS9 with barrel porting.
Good video bruh,,, I thought about the Apache until I gathered more and more info and research decided on the Phoenix Trinity H-TAC. I am waiting for my MPA DS9 now had to change my order from stainless/black to all black because they were having issues with rust on the stainless so they no longer offer stainless, bummer... 😎
Hey guy I really like tunning in to watch your videos but if you could get us better shots on the objects it would make a big difference on viewing for me anyway... Thank you bruh. 😎
It really is very simple. I have put some loctite on various parts so i don't want to break it down again. However, here is a link to a video of both on another 2011 that I used in the past. Hope this helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J4Y0I-phMY4.html
@@BingV-vj1nc Not a problem. You push the pin in from the left side to the right. Use a punch tool or something. Let me know if you need anything else.
Its crazy how there are so many different "experiences" with these guns. My trigger is great. No grittiness, and not sure of the pull weight. Much lighter than my Staccato P, but not as light as my CZ TSO, and TSO2, which are supposedly sub 2lb, and the best I've ever felt. Trigger is very similar to my P226 X5 Legion which is my favorite gun of all. I do have the original grip which is a bummer. I'd like to see Watchtower cut a good deal for us to have them replaced with the newer version. All that said, I do have a problem that has happened about 7 times now. Sometimes the spent shell doesn't eject all of the way out. Its not stuck in the chamber like your issue, it just doesn't get ejected all of the way. I have reached out to Watchtower and will be sending it back to them soon. I was hoping a little break in and cleaning would make it go away but that hasn't been the case. Its a bummer their QC is not better, but once issues are sorted they are real nice guns.
Just a heads up that if you contact Watchtower , they will replace and give you a new grip. In regards to the spent casing, I guarantee it is the extractor. This is an easy fix that you can take care of.
@@rockie071 If you are talking the extractor, it just has to be removed and bent a little. Depending on if it is too tight or too loose depends on which way you need to bend it. Here is a link for how Atlas gunworks. They have a few videos on it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-COv5BtKxQMI.html
I have a ds9 hybrid coming next month.I got the stainless and black. It is the aluminum grip though.I'll probably get an extended mag release for it also.Which holster and belt set up do you have, i am going to shoot uspsa with it?. Thanks for any help you can give me.Looks like you can get some fast double taps with it.
I just use an inner/outer belt system from shooting sports innovations. I use the double alpha x holster system with an insert for a 2011/Staccato firearm. Good luck to you. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions.
Was at a gun show today trying out some Staccatos for ergonomics (I have large hands - so finding a right proper 9mm has not been easy), they felt a bit small but the slide on the XC was amazing. Dealer shows me the DS9. First thing I do is check the slide. Wow. It felt smoother than the XC and when I had it in my hands, I felt like I was locked in especially with the way the bottom of my hand rested against the magwell, but not hanging over it. It was def a little more than I was planning on spending (was originally looking at Staccato P). So I’m doing my research first. How long have you owed the DS9? And aside from the initial hiccups you mentioned, have you had any failures or issues since? Is it finicky with any ammo or does it just blow through everything? Thanks so much! Ps. The Platypus is exceptional, but the grip was way too short and small in my hands :/
The DS 9 is a great gun for the money. I haven't really had any more issues and I hear that the newer ones are being made even better than the earlier ones. All ammo has worked, even the reloads. I def don't regret the purchase. However, I just got the Watchtower Apache and if it stays reliable, I think it may be my favorite gun yet. Will being doing a review and comparison video on it as well.
In my opinion both of these are a must have. The xr is one of my fav polymer guns. This and the hk vp9. The platypus is an awesome gun and very unique.
I have changed my mind of shadow systems. I still like them but for me, I would rather have a Glock. Preferably 19X with some adjustments like adding s beaver tail. I just trust Glock way more than shadow systems. After all, it shadows the Glock hence the name.
@@a.d.c7941 I gotcha. You def have to go with what you are more comfortable. To me the ss is a better gun and I have not had 1 problem with the 3 that I own. They have taken a good platform and added better features.
Hi there and thanks for the great video man. I'm looking to get a platipus commander size with the competition trigger. Have you had any issues firing certain ammo with the 10 pound spring. I definitely want to cut down on the recoil as much as possible. I also plan to add a Valkyrie Dynamics muzzle break comp to it.
No issues whatsoever. Even on day 1 with the stock spring, it fed my reloads which are not quite as hot as factory ammo. That is pretty impressive. If you are adding a comp to it, you def may want to go with a lighter spring if trying reloads, but you should be fine with factory ammo no matter what spring. Good luck!
@bluepstu9009 Thanks for your input man. My goal is to modify it so it feels like I'm shooting a .22. Hopefully after breaking it in, I can get the trigger pull weight at sub 2 pounds like yours. I also plan to pin the grip safety down. Originally, my eyes were fixed on the Watchtower Apache @ $4,198 or the Atlas Gunworks Nyx RDS v2 @ $5,700.....but I just can't justify spending a couple mortgage payments on a handgun. LOL.
@@earlautry7999 Ha. You are def welcome. Don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions. I actually have a watchtower apache on order. Just waiting for it to be built. However, with some of the issues that people are complaining about, I am fine with getting it later than sooner. I want to make sure all the kinks are ironed out. Will probably do a video on it after I get it.
I usually zero everything in between 12-15 yards. The farthest distance we can shoot at that location is 73 yards and I still hit a 6 inch plate by keeping the dot right on the plate. I have found that you are not having to change your point of aim at that distance.
Ordered my Plat two weeks ago and now have to wait 15-18 more weeks. I hope they can keep up with the demand without sacrificing quality or attention to detail. Mine was right around the $1900 mark which seems like a bargain for what you get, especially with several G17 mags already lying around…..
You are correct. It is a lot of value. With what I have experienced and read about this company, I don't think you will need to worry about sacrificing quality. When I originally ordered mine, I was told the 12-16 week wait but ended up getting mine a couple of weeks early. Probably due to the fact that mine was pretty "plain" and didn't have a bunch of "wild" color combos. I think you will be pleased.
