Hi! Thanks for the good, thoughtful review! My husband is the game designer. :) Just a clarification on the permission rule. It’s not necessarily to ask for permission to close another person’s ring because you’re right, there would be no point or benefit to doing that. But it’s there because sometimes you are building your ring in close proximity to someone else and you need a tile to finish your ring, but their ring is in the way. You can use one of the tiles with two paths on it to continue your ring. One path will help with your ring, but the other path will add to your neighbor’s ring. Most often, it benefits you both and the other person will agree. But you can’t mess with their ring without permission. These are polite little gnomes!
Thanks for the response. I haven’t ever played a game where I needed to ask for permission so I was struggling to understand the purpose. This really does help. I didn’t think of a scenario like that.
I'm so glad you did this video I've been waiting for one to learn how to play I'm not good at reading instructions.. this is the only English video on this game
If you are betting against the other player, wouldn't you know what he/she is going for because they moved the bishop to the spot they are trying to get?
Yes. You get to see where they go. Then based on what they go for you can decide what you think is going to happen. You can bet after roll 1, 2, or 3. You just get less points if you are right the longer you wait.
@@BGMechanics I just got it in the mail. The girl I babysit she loved the game when I taught her. Keep them coming. Another game you and your daughter might like to play together is a cute dice/card push your luck game called Trash Pandas.
I agree. Most music/band games just have a theme pasted on them and the mechanics could be the same if you put puppies on the cards. This does give you the touring rock ban vibes. At the time this game came out it was pretty much the only game that was able to do this. Rock Hard 1977 is about being a rock star more than being in a band. Draft and Write Records could be about anything but they do tie in the band members dynamics with each other. Still waiting for the magic touring rock band game.
The only solo rules I could find are on the Kraken board from GenCon. Basically you play the game as normal but any time you get the map and you already have it it goes away. So you can’t just hang onto it all the time. You are trying to beat some score thresholds. I think the board is listed on BGG and you may be able to see it there.
0:06 "Call it what you want." Oof. Hardly a deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind moving forward: when someone takes the time to contact the publisher and establish the correct pronunciation of a name that could be confusing (or interpreted multiple ways), it increases the likelihood that the rest of the video will be well and thoughtfully done. (Edit: same goes for preparing an accurate sampling of other titles done by well-known illustrators... 01:43) Thanks!
@@BGMechanics OK; I must have missed that part of the video. I heard "I think she did, uh, Wingspan, I believe (don't quote me on that...) But she'd done a ton of artwork; you can tell, it looks like that" and thought it would been simple to name 2-3 other specific titles. No biggie, though it can give the impression that someone is speaking more extemporaneously. That's not necessarily a problem in some cases, but when someone is giving information on a topic, it's good to be knowledgeable about the basics. That said, I'm really intrigued by this game now that I've seen the video; hadn't heard about it before (still fairly new to the hobby), and was glad to learn about it. Thanks!
@@BGMechanics Oh you went to Gen Con? Lucky! Yea I guess Indianapolis isn't that far from you. What other games did you buy? I bought Comic Hunters at Barnes and Nobles.
I love this game! Thank goodness I bought it last month. It is all sold out now. I wish I knew about the Kickstarter for it. I would to have loved to get the extras.
The extras are not necessary but they are fun. I have played this game a ton since picking it up at Origins. Question - are you friends with The Boardgame Man?
@@BGMechanics I am! Haha. Boardgame Man and I are both fans of yours. When we were talking one day about a game and who explained it good/reviewed a certain game you came up lol. He told me you are a fellow Ohioian!? Which part are you? I am near Youngstown. I am orginally from NYC/Long Island we moved here in 2022. Love it here and we haven't regretted it!
That is awesome. Glad that you like the channel. Jamie’s channel is one of the few channels that I am still watching. He is a good guy. We live in the Dayton OH area. Been here forever. My wife went to college in Indiana for awhile but other then that OH all the way.
This rule is easy to overlook: "If it is your turn, play 1 hand card face up in front of yourself and immediately (!) draw a new hand card." That's why this rule exists: "If you ever forget to draw back to 7 hand cards, just do so once you notice." 😄
I learned the game from a friend and missed that when reading thru the rulebook. We did that when we played I just forgot to do that. Thanks for the heads up.
You should have said something man. I didn’t have anything going on I was just hanging out and playing games. I may have looked busy but that is mostly just the way my face looks. Haha
Good review, thank you! I think the designers are really upping marketing because I'm getting ads for this game non-stop but there isn't much content on it. Question about what you showed off though. You made it seem as though if someone extends, everyone else also gets to, but the rules make it seem that isn't the case. Once the leader extends, the lap is done and you start with the car in the back and the rest of the pack has to try to catch up to the leader. Maybe I'm wrong about that though, just trying to tell by looking at the rulebook on bgg. Good review though, thanks for the overview! Much more helpful than some of the other videos I've found.
This is a fun game, pretty easy to teach and you can really work some combo actions. I agree it also seems to end way too quickly so we'll purposely not complete all the goals just to keep playing it longer. I have the Cold Water expansion but haven't played with it yet so hoping that helps extend some of the gameplay.
