I have seen maaaaaany videos about this topic and this video I didn't like it... I just loved it ! She's a great mom. She has the ideas very clear in her head ! 👌 Bravo !
I've made a mistake. My native language is portuguese, but since I live abroad with close to no contact my home country/expats and I was afraid that my child would be behind in terms of school, I kind of stopped speaking my own language very earlier on. Now, my child is 4 and doesn't speak Portuguese at all - which is challenging for me, as I have to educate and raise a person in a language that I'm not 100% perfect. What should I do now? Is it too late?
I hope you just started. That's the best thing you could do is to start and improve your method as you go along. You can improve your language at the same time.
I grew up learning and speaking 4 languages in Malaysia :) Cantonese at home , Mandarin with friends, Bahasa Malay and English at school. Definitely gave me an advantage at work.
I don’t know how to do with my future kids. I’m afraid to confuse them, because I speak Portuguese, my fiancé speaks Danish and we speak English to each other. We live in the German side of Switzerland, and they will have to speak that at school. Plus, i speak Italian quite often because of my stepfather and his family.
I'm in my 40s and only became bilingual recently. I started learning my second language at the start of 2019 and I'm close to being an advanced level speaker in it now. These children are so lucky to have been brought up in more than one language.

I live in america and there's so many polish people here. I guess they speak polish and sound a little american, but mostly do have a polish accent. this lady mostly sounds polish but sounds English with some words she says. Adorable. Interesting
Polish is like the world's hardest language or at least in the top few. That language is crazy and a 3 year can speak that and two other ones as well. it just goes to show you that babies truly are the masters of language
Well done. I do the same at home. My children are now 9 and 11. They are trilingual in english, french and spanish and they are able to communicate, understand read and now learning to write in Spanish. Of course they are still some gaps especially in spanish as we have less time to practice it. Most of the time they practice english and french at school as they are in a bilingual class. At home we use the 3 languages. Mum speak spanish, daddy french and the kids speak english to each other. You may think we are a crazy family 🙂🤔. Fortunately we are all trilingual so we do understand each others...
I was also raised trilingual but my parents could only speak one language (Italian) so I learnt Italian at home with them. I learnt French because I went to an International French school from the age of 2 to 12 so French is like another native language. I learnt English by watching English tv when I was young and I am going to a British school now for the last year of high school. Spanish I only started learning 6 years ago, I was about 11 so I am not fluent yet but I can definitely have a conversation with someone
My idea of a perfect world involves things such as eradication of bullying and terrorism, effective programs that get to the heart of why people feel the need to bully in the first place, more jobs for inmates while in prison and for when they leave prison, more high-quality schools and homeless shelters established so that no one would be denied education, discrimination based on race/sex/religion/political views/deformities/mental illness/social class/caste/interests/sexual orientation/gender wouldn't be tolerated even slightly anywhere, establishment of thousands more shelters to find every single stray animal in the world a home, global implementation of electric/hydroelectric energy for everything from cars to factories, regular and incredibly through inspections of homes to ensure no abuse is being inflicted upon any member of said household, establishment of high-quality orphanages with only the most noble and kindest staff to make children feel a sense of family belonging until a real family can adopt them, eradication of every country' debt with the collaboration of every single country in the world, spaying and neutering of rapists/pedophiles/other sex offenders so that they have no choice but to focus on more productive ventures, programs to have satellites plant seeds as they orbit the earth so as to end world hunger, travel and cultural education is highly encouraged, Hollywood and other film/television industries continuously make themselves entirely open to the unique imagination and creativity of others without unnecessary interference and think of new and revolutionary film ideas constantly, etc.
I wonder if it would work if not introduced from the beginning when kids are baby's but later in child's life, I mean with much older kids. Anyone has an experience or opinion?

In my country (Belgium) most people speak 3 languages because we have Dutch and French and also a small German part but no one really cares about that but everyone also speaks English.
My parents were bilingual, but only taught us English as kids. As an adult keep trying to learn Spanish, but not very good at it. I do have an ear for Spanish because heard as a child, which must be from the exposure as a child. Lucky kids. Had friend who learned Polish, French, and English as a child.
To be honest, even if I cannot speak Italian or Spanish, they could speak better Polish but I understand that it is the hardest of all 4 of those languages. Dziewczynki, trzyma kciuki za Wasze postępy! Oby tak dalej 😉
I was lucky to grow up in the US with French speaking parents. So school in English, then French at home. We then moved to Belgium and were put in French speaking school, then we moved to Italy and we went to local Italian schools. After that we all went our own way; I went back to US, learned Spanish, then back to Belgium, and learned the basics of Flemish/Dutch, my sister is fluent. I learned some Portuguese and German along the way. So we all speak 3-5 languages in our family. My daughter graduated Belgian/French high school and I always spoke to her in English. She learned some Spanish and understands Italian. Life was good for us in traveling the world!
I was so very close to being bilingual (English and French) when I was little, only we never used French anywhere once we left Belgium, where we'd been living and where I had gone to school, and so I've forgotten it. I do remember having a discussion with another kid at the school, though. My memory is in English but we would have been speaking French, and because I don't remember much French, my memory has code switched permanently to English.
My daughter spoke 3 languages at 3 years old (French from my side, Persian from my husband, German, where we live). At 4 she started watching English cartoons and could speak it within a few months. Now soon 10, she also speaks Russian and a bit of Arabic
almost everyone in europe mostly young and mid-age people know more than just one language their mother language because english is international language you already know two from really young age ( ive been learning english since i was 4) and then in elementary school you can learn the third which was german in my case because its beautiful and has some similarities with english and if you want to be that amazing which a lot of europeans are obviously you can learn fourth or maybe fifth my fourth is currently russian because im slavic so its easier for me to learn that and also i can speak fluently and for you to know im slovak so obviously i can speak fluently czech too and my fifth language is or will be spanish i know some words and some phrases and i dont think its that difficult for someone like me who aint new in learning new languages also a lot of people ask how can you do that and it must be reallt difficult and my explanation is that first 3-4 years are about nothing you just learn words phrases etc you just have to pick one thats the most difficult part of it to even pick one and realize that it actually aint that horrible. when you know more and more languages clearly and fluently believe me your life would be soo much easier after all languages havent been created for just to speak in them but also to learn them. for everyone whos learning new language or is trying i wish you the best you can do that doesnt matter if you cant speak fluently in it after maybe 3 years i tell you that after a little bit more years you will be surprised and youll start realizing that omg i can speak in it pretty good and thats one of the best feelings in the world believe me i know what im talking about however the most important is understandment between people. wish yall luck and have a nice day 😘
no, at least not for me... me is when the other language hits me with an headache, cause my eyes beg and plead for a different written format, therefore stopping reading comprehension, the trying in overdrive hence the headache only after long time written format and over slightly overstating what would occur naturally to even monolinguals in their own language
I was raised bilingual, tho my parents only taught me Persian and i learned German from Kindergarden and school. Later i learned English and French in school tho my french is not very good unlike my english
