Being from St. Louis and not knowing 95% of this stuff is mind blowing. I always loved our architecture, beautiful designs just need some TLC but all the history I didn’t know makes me feel like I never really experienced the city lol
We lived at 3901 Kossuth and walked to school every day. We only had one car which my Dad used for work. My Mom never drove and was a stay at home mom. My dad bought our 100 year old historical house that was built for visiting horse jockeys who trained and raced horses at Fairgrounds park. Life was just beautiful. By the way my dad purchased the house on the V.A. Bill for $ 7000 dollars ( he was a WW two vet. US Coast Guard ).
Cheshire Inn is half in the county and half in the city. My buddy was a chef in the restaurant which was in the county, and we would drink in the bar which had a 3am license because it was in the city.
We had 3 Vashon High Schools the first one my parents went to and I went to the second one and they tore it down and James Cool Papa Bell moved on Dickson and we had a huge party for him to welcome him and they changed the street name after him. I got to meet him when I was a kid I used to see him all the time. He was my neighbor I grew up on James Cool Papa Bell. My grandparents help to build Jeff Vander Lou with Mr Shephard. I was born and raised down there.
Those are awesome stories! Thanks so much for sharing them. I really appreciate it. Very interesting- I'm glad you found the video and it had some meaning to you.
Thanks so much for watching! That's so nice of you. I have been thinking about you- haven't had anything interesting to tell you lately. So good to hear from you.
This video brings back great memories. Every summer I would take swimming lessons at Fontbonne College (then) and travel down Skinker and Wydown. The view brings back many memories and it is great to see that much has remained -largely the same but many improvements have been made. Love that Forest Park has been renovated along with the Missouri Historical Society. Never knew the location of the Ferris wheel from the fair. Interesting fact about the MUNY. Never knew Walter Cronkite was there. What show was he in? I do remember my neighbors when we lived by Tower Grove Park would get out early to the Muny to sit in the free seats to see a show. Thanks so much for posting!
Thanks so much for watching and the comment. It's very good to hear from you! Thanks so much for the support. I wouldn't have gotten this far without you! I went by Fontbonne in the last video I did on the East side of Clayton. So then I decided to do this neighborhood in the city which is next to it. Walter Cronkite was the narrator of Richard Rodgers: A Man and his Music in 1980. Yes, Forest Park is as beautiful as ever. It's still amazing to me.
Whoa! That Amoco is still there? I used to live around the corner from there. I haven't been back to St. Louis is over 20 years. Your videos bring back a ton of nostalgia
Oh yes that's a landmark. Thanks so much for watching- I'm glad you found it. Really appreciate the comment- love hearing that. That's what makes it all worth it.
People not giving St.Louis it’s beauty of a state, this is a beautiful place let’s take away the crime ridden neighborhoods and have rule and regulations. I will always love this city. Thank you for work you do.😊😊😊😊🤩🤩🤩😍😍

It’s so sad when you showed a beautiful post of St. Louis. You don’t get no views. They got tons of videos videos on the worst parts of St. Louis and almost got 300,000 views. It said that people like to see the negative so much.
Yes I agree. There can be a hundred good things but one bad thing and people are interested. It's just the nature of humans. Thanks for watching- I appreciate your comment. It is a really neat neighborhood.
Compton Heights has been my favorite neighborhood in the city since I was a little girl, 50-odd years ago, lol. I used to dream about one house in particular. Never figured out why. 😂
@@organstl and thank you Mr organ I appreciate you telling me that. I've lived in just about every neighborhood at one time or another in my 67 years on this planet. All of the memories haven't been good in a city this violent however there are a lot of things it's fun to reminisce about. That being said I appreciate your videos for taking me down memory lane.
Grandma lived on College Avenue and I stayed with her a lot. Now I live downtown. I've lived in just about every neighborhood in this city in my 67 years😮
@@organstl yes grandma lived right across the street from the pink sisters. I believe she lived on the corner of college and Blair. Thank you sir:-) peace
@@organstl thank you Mr organ for being consistent with your replies. A lot of these RU-vid Channel people never get back and comment you on your comments. Peace to you sir:-)
I'll never forget standing on Frozen Fairgrounds Lake in the 1960s when all of the ice started to break around me. Luckily my Dad ran out grab me and got me off of the ice before I fell through😢
@@organstl you're welcome. Ice was one of the least of my worries growing up in that neighborhood even in the 1960s. I thank God for moving to Southwest St Louis in 1970.
@@organstl when I was working for the City Sheriff's Department during the Ferguson riots which eventually came to downtown St Louis the captain would go to Gus's and pick up a big box of goodies for all of the deputies who were forced to work overtime during the riots.
I was born here in the 1950s and have been here my whole life. Hodak's with my absolute favorite place to go and I started going there in 1976. I even remember seeing the Challenger disaster on TV there after getting off from the night shift at Jewish Hospital.
Great video Tom, I was going to ask you to get a video of Vincent Price's old home, but you beat me to it. What are they doing with the old CBC high school. I know CBC keeps moving westward. Thanks again.
The market building is beautiful and historic market. There is a huge courtyard in the front. The homes are incredible. My son designed one of the few new buildings in Soulard.
Another one of my favorite Stl traditions!😁 Fair St Louis which has been renamed as Celebrate St Louis😭lol I love the fireworks, airshow, concerts, and the parade. I just wish they would go back to having it going more days then just on one day which is on the 4th! lol it used to be better before the Covid pandemic😭 every year my whole family would come here from out of town for the 4th of July festivities on the arch grounds in downtown Stl
Thanks again so much. Everyone seems to agree- they loved when it was more days. The crowd would be spread out a little more and was a ton of fun. You're right though- it's still awesome- parade, airshow, concerts, fireworks- they were all awesome again 😀🧨
I love my beautiful Forest Park!😁 my hangout spot is Art hill and the Grand Basin fountains where the World's Fair was held. It's so beautiful there😍 in the summer and it's so many fun things to do in Forest Park. One of my most favorite Stl traditional events is the Great Forest Park Balloon Race and Glow! The best city park ever! Lol💯
