I'm an advid backpacker and on my channel I will be sharing my experiences and things I have learned along the way. Over the years I have transitioned from UL (Ultra light) to SUL (Super ultra light) backpacking and to say the least it's been a learning curve. I have done my share of research on the matter, invested time, money, and field testing during many of my adventures.
My videos are dedcated primarily to backpacking, gear reviews, and giving back just as the backpacking community has done for me. Currently I have large number of projects that I'm going to working on. I'm also attempting a 2016 Appalachain Trail Thru hike this year which will cover 2160+ miles from GA to ME. Follow me on my channel as I will be posting videos capturing my experience from the trail.
To my viewers - Thanks for the support and encouragement. Without you my channel would be nothing.
Thanks for watching and as always - Feel free to comment, like, share, and subscribe.
Sawyer Squize is now price gouging, raising there price from 29$ to 45.99 absolutely reduclous our troop was going to purchase these now they made it impossible. I will not use or purchase any product from the ever again. There price gouging goes against everything they stand for. Will be releasing a video on this reduclous price gouging Sawyer is doing. Do not purchase from this company. There head is getting to big and now money is more important than the mission. I have formally removed all my support and referrals for there product.
Thank you for a very thoughtful review on the Sawyer using this Smart water bottle. This was exactly the information I sought! Many blessings and safe adventures. 🦋Lily🦋
One thing most people forget when discussing the Sawyer squeeze, the coupler and backflushing is to keep the right parts sterile. E.g. I work with a Cnoc bag and the coupler to press dirty water into a clean bottle. The Cnoc bag should be considered "contaminated" at this point. Prior to cleaning, you should not use it to backflush. You could use a clean water bottle to backflush, just keep the dirty parts separate from the clean ones
Here Is the mod I used, Wal Mart Ozark Trail 32 oz water bottle $ 4.95O, blue nipple from Smart Water Bottle, Paracord, 1 1/2 wide rubber bands cut from inner tube. Insert the blue nipple into the hole on the large screw on lid from the inside, hold in in place while incerting the filter from the outside of the lid to center the nipple. Hot glue the nipple in place. I put some hot glue on the neck of the nipple before incerting. Add a generous amount on the flange of the nipple and inside of the cap. Poke a hole near the bottom of the bottle. Place 1 rubber band over the hole another band several inches up. Tie a knot on both ends of a short piece of Paracord, thred the cord up under the rubber bands from the bottom up. Now you have a bottle that will hang upsidedown with a vent hole under the rubber band. Fill the bottle, place the lid on, incert the filter in the blue nipple, hang the bottle upsidedown, put the container to fill at the output of the Sawyer Water filter, move the rubber band off the vent hole and let gravity work. No bags needed, if you can't get to the water, tie a rock around the neck with Paracord and throw the bottle in the water, an open well or stream when you can't get close to the water.
I am going to stay with the syringe provided with the filter, at least for now. I admit, mods and creative ideas are great. This is practical in some approaches, but I'd rather deal with a 60 ml syringe than a 2 liter plastic bottle to tote around with me. It's that simple for me - no bottle to babysit, it eats up a fair bit of real estate in the pack, and I can flush the filter easy peasy with the syringe anyway. I have not used my filters much at all yet (just got them recently), so I have no idea how strong or how long the Sawyer bags last for. Won't take long to find out, from what I'm hearing. This bottle appears to be a good idea, but it's bulky. If the bags suck I'm going to need plans B and C. This bottle is an option I don't care for, but if the bags suck it will be my plan C. Not sure what plan B looks like yet! Good video though. Cheers!!
Not being a smart@ss but it ought to be mentioned that carrying a pint of rehydrating chow adds about 1 lb to the pack. Of course, that's the one day you're carrying it so for thru hikers, pretty good deal. For weekender not so much.
Your trolling on a video I posted almost 8 years ago. You don’t know me. Besides don’t little girls say hehehehehehe. I’ve probably clocked more trail time in a year then you have in your entire life ;)
You cut off the wrong end of your cheap water bottle scoop. Slice off the butt end, keep the cap on to scoop. Lose the cap, and you have a funnel. Better yet, attach a sport cap, simultaneous scoop and funnel. Either way, 2fer.
I learned of the advance Bic fire system... I will chuck my heavy Zippo for a bic after this video. Haha ... I gained a few tricks... thanks for your review Shonryu
Is there any reason why you couldn't repackage mountain house meals into freezer bags? Seems like a freezer bag would be a lot less bulky the Mountain house OEM packaging.
If you use an idea that don't come with the product...you are risking any warranty to the product. . .and your app to break the filter because you're using it in way that the filter wasn't recommended to be used...
This list is useful too, what you guys think?: *survivalinnature.com/top-5-best-survival-water-filter-straws?Z7* It really helped me choose the right item 4:40
Were did you say can buy adaptor from to backflush could not make out what you said ???? Thought it was mini bore designs????? But can not find the website Many thanks ian
I find I use this at home more than on the trail, despite owning a Berkey with flouride/arsenic filter. But after 50 gal or so, it starts to leave grainy white stuff in the clean water. I use water from the dehumidifyer (on all the time). No flouride. But water gets dirty b/c of the open design of the dehumidifier. So I use the Sawyer. & no flouride. If it werent for having to squeeze manually, Id ditch the Berkey. The dehumidifier requires cleaning often too. (Scum forms if not).
