I remember being five years old and my dad chucking me down under the Oregon Inlet bridge for striper fishing. I remember the current was so fast and i could only imagine being lost out sea if i fell in

The east coast has some of the most gentle inlets in the world. Drunk redneck boaters do not make an inlet dangerous.

Feel so bad that the politician hangs out with them and gives them the "oh I care" and doesn't give a damn. "its on the top of my list for the past 10 years". Go to his website- nowhere and at no point mentioned on his issues or anywhere. But let me guess ,around voting time he comes out and makes an appearance . Those hard working guys deserve better.

I have a hard time believing that 4M of an 8M Sport Fisher goes back into the local economy. Certainly they employ workers and support the community, but 4M? Not going to just buy that without some more data. In todays US Govt, The Big Banks, the auto manufacturers, big agriculture, Big Oil, they all get the money they want. Wanchese and the people of Eastern NC? Not a chance.

You're afraid in part, because it's mysterious and unfamiliar to you. Nevertheless, any Captain worth his salt will tell, never underestimate the sea, and never fail to give it the respect it deserves! The same holds true with the sky and pilots. (Which is what I've done for 40+ years) I'm a recreational boater who grew up on the water having owned many boats over the years. A good Captain, water or air, can read his surroundings by the way the look, feel, and the way it's affecting the craft they're piloting. Once you learn to use the shifting currents, turbulence, speed of currents etc to your advantage instead of fighting them, then you're on your way to becoming an accomplished Captain. Recreational boaters rarely ever reach this high level of ability handling their vessel. The same applies to recreational pilots. The experience has a lot to do with it, and being taught by a competent Captain before you. Even bystanders can stand and watch the boats coming into a rough inlet, having much difficulty. Then an experienced Captain will begin to enter, perhaps with a heavily loaded, single screw fishing trawler, that hasn't got the speed to get out of its own way! And after getting lined up, waiting for the perfect moment between waves in a tough following sea, he'll come in and you can't help but to see the superior control he has over his vessel. With following seas pushing the stern to port and starboard, he'll use those terrible positions to his advantage, and you'll see him then surfing down a breaking wave, outriggers down and he manages to hold her steady right down that perfect line through the inlet! Other experienced boaters stand watching in awe, and newbie boaters exclaim, "See, all you have to do is go full power and you've got it made easy!" 🙄🙄 smh It's the experience that counts. Same thing happens in my profession. Seeing someone truly accomplished in their profession, makes people who understand the inherent difficulties stand up and take notice. Those "boat drivers" and self proclaimed "Captains" who don't notice their skill and brush it off, will never reach the level of proficiency they've just witnessed. That's just the way it goes! And I've been watching this same scenario take place in aircraft for over 4 decades. 🙂🙂🙂

What a bunch of East Coast whiners! The West Coast is far more dangerous to navigate. That said, make sure to show respect for the USACE crews that dredge the channels and the USCG crews that drag the unprepared or unlucky back into port. Essayons Murden.

There are no dangerous inlets on the East Coast, just bad boaters. The dangerous waters of the US are on the West Coast.

Back from 82-85I was stationed on the Point Brown and Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station (The historical station). Back then the inlet was a political nightmare. The channel was constantly changing, and we would bump bottom anytime we would get underway. They had the Army Corp dredge "Sweitzer" was a permanent attachment near the station. In 1982 we responded to the F/V Lois Joyce hard aground to the south side of the channel. Now it's a permanent icon on the charts as a wreck.

Great stories, but I think it's misleading to say that the Oregon inlet is the closest access to the sea from both Swan Quarter and Englehard. In fact both Ocracoke inlet and Hatteras inlets are closer. Measuring to the bar of each inlet, Englehard to: Oregon inlet = 36.8 miles Hatteras inlet = 27.3 miles Ocracoke inlet = 35 miles Swan Quarter to: Oregon inlet = 66.5 miles Hatteras inlet = 41.25 miles Ocracoke inlet = 35 miles

Most of the trawl boats can't get out of Hatteras or Ocracoke inlet. The captains I spoke with all use Oregon Inlet
@erichammond9308
@erichammond9308 7 месяцев назад
@@CXCVIDEO Back in the late 80's when I was stationed there, Ocracoke was the deepest inlet on the Outer Banks. There were a couple of times that you could wade across Oregon inlet at low tide and not get your Shirt wet. Every time that happened, Ocracoke inlet got naturally dredged by the increased outflow. The permanence of Oregon inlet was a concern as far back as the late 1970's. Not that I don't think Oregon inlet should be maintained, but the reality is that there's only one inlet between Beaufort and Virginia that has been stable for the past 600+ years, and we've now spent too much money maintaining Oregon inlet to give up. Oregon inlet should have been given up on and allowed to close 50 years ago, but since we've decided to maintain it, do it properly.

Very slick presentation, nicely edited, but so one-sided as to be nearly incomprehensible. I realize that RU-vid is not technically a news outlet, so the normal rules of journalistic ethics (interviews and quotes from not only the folks “against,” but the folks “for,” as well, is a good way to start) don’t apply at all. But even the most vapid watcher must realize that this video is nothing more than a poorly researched opinion piece designed to anger an audience who can’t be bothered to look for the other side of the story.

You clearly know only what your despicable president and his news channels tell you. First of all, just like solar, which is also destroying land and the environment, these windmills are such a small percentage to the grid that its a loss of money over all. Its nothing but a "green agenda" shit show to get brain washed individuals like yourself to vote for them. 100% fact!
