I love how subtle the apparently inoffensive "instant grits?" question is. While the witness takes it as a matter of "Southerner pride", Vinny is laying the perfect trap. Since the witness claimed that it took him 5 minutes to make breakfast, the only reasonable possibility for that to be true would have been the use of instant grits. The second he confidently rejected this, mr. Tipton did nothing but to prove everyone that he had been wrong all the time.
I dont know about yall but the final "are you sure" gets me emotional. Like you proud vain creature. These are kids whose lives you are toying with. You better be SURE!
Always liked how Vinny put the judge in his place too: "Dah two *defendants*..." and the judge realizes Vinny's right and he needs to respect him more. Happens again when he does the 2 finger thing with the thick-spectacled woman.
Two good court movies came out in 1992: this and A Few Good Men. Although further from the end, this scene is strikingly similar to "Did you order the code red?"
"No self respecting southerner uses instant grits" and ..."are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than anywhere else on the face of the earth" I still quote those two lines so often!!!
I saw this at the theatre. I had no idea what grits were at the time. I live in Eastern Canada and they aren't a thing here. Now I love them, when I can find them.
I loved that he set up he was gonna ask him about the grits' cooling time when he asked if he liked his grits "al dente." "Al dente" means "undercooked."
