Citric acid. Fill the tub, pour in a can of citric acid, run it, let it circulate. Changing the ph of the water with the cirtric acid will kill all of the slime molds and biofilms.

According to the Bacteriologists I consulted: "As a bacteriologist, I would not recommend using citric acid alone in a water jetted tub to sanitize and disinfect the piping. While citric acid has some antimicrobial properties, it is not considered a broad-spectrum disinfectant and would likely be insufficient to properly sanitize the complex piping system of a jetted tub... I would advise against relying solely on citric acid for this purpose, as it may give a false sense of security while not adequately addressing the microbial contamination in the tub's piping system." I am not an expert on these things. That is why I go to true experts for this type of guidance. This is also why I believe we are way safer and healthier to just not put these water-jetted systems on our personal bathing appliances. MEdical Hydrotherapy is sanitary and also a far better therapeutic process.

Tub I have to have a chair so I won’t fall besides myself my brother whose 4years younger than me also a 14 year old grandson I have been raising since he survived cancer at and only has 1 kidney he is into lifting weights so I think this tub would benefit him also plus my brother is a veteran do you offer any discount for people like us

My dad just bought a walk in tub from Kohler for $25,000! Reason was for my mom who has trouble standing to take a shower. He could have had hand grabs and a seat installed for WAY cheaper!
I can almost GUARANTEE that you were overcharged! There are many solutions, and I have yet to see a walk-in tub install (assuming there is not major additional remodeling being done) cast $25,000. He should not be paying more than $16,000-$18,000 under most circumstances. If I were you, I would have him cancel the contract immediately, then lets talk and allow you guys to look around a little more and see his options. Trust me, if he decides to go back to Kohler, they are going to give him the same or a better deal. Let me know if I can help. Thanks. You described the exact sales pitch we experienced, and validated all of my gut instincts/concerns about the pitch- except I never dreamed that the rewards to the salesman would be so big. Perhaps foolishly, but we will see when I try to get my money back, I gave him a fully refundable deposit to get rid of him after he dismissed my concerns that the tub combined with my infrastructure could not fill or drain quickly enough to work for our needs, and could not be simply addressed. Clearly, he wasn’t focused on our needs beyond trying to convince us that our concerns would not be an issue. Even so, when he asked I liked him enough (or didn’t dislike him enough), I told him that the gas station in the nearby town would not be open to fill his tank that he said was nearly empty and there was nothing else anywhere remotely close by. So I gave him 20 litres of gas to be sure he would make it to a gas station that would be open.

I’ve had my walk-in tub for almost a year now. I bought a showroom model from my contractor who was going to remove it their showroom. They were going to redesign the room. So there was nothing wrong with it other than it just sat there with people looking at it. Used it one time just to see if it works. It’s nice, but I have to admit uses a lot of water. For Clark Clark County, Nevada this makes me feel guilty. No regrets! My bathroom looks so much matter. The one piece plastic oval soaking tub (also used a ton of water but impossible to get in & out safely) & one piece plastic shower were visually cheap. Tacky. Horrible! The builder should have been embarrassed to put in such crap. The shower is now really, really nice. Like something out of Architectural Digest. All tile with a rain head, a bench, and grab bars. Cost a lot of money to have everything done proper (no cutting corners here). Maybe when I age a bit more & it’s harder for me to get around I’ll use the new tub more. I think it will be good for resale if things ever come to that.
Congrats Marc! I think you made a good decision. What brand tub is it? WHat therapies do you have on it. If it has water jets... I strongly suggest you don't use them. Not sanitary. If you have air jets... USE THAT THERAPY. You can use mineral salts, epsom, essential oils and other natural healing processes. At any age, get in there for the therapy at least 3x week. How exactly do you prevent the biomass/bacteria from accumulating in YOUR hydrotherapy system? And in YOUR air jets, George? It's suspicious to say the competitors' systems are susceptible to biomass/bacteria and not explain exactly how YOUR systems are not susceptible.
Great question and very important. Even cheap air systems will produce biomaterial if bath water gets into the lines. As I point out at 9:38 in the video, Medical Hydrotherapy requires the use of medical grade check valves to prevent the bath water from getting into the lines. The simplest way to think of it if is that “what is in the tub goes down the drain”. Does they help? Please call me with any further questions. I am your age and I do 4 therapies a week. Love it.
Well I found this video because I searched why they are so expensive. I figured it was just as you said - greed! My husband and I are seniors, but so far we have our health and do fine with our showers. I have not used my jetted tub for years. Generally showers are quicker and my preference. But getting up from sitting flat in my standard tub would be difficult. My question is why wouldn't ANYONE enjoy having one of these - not just seniors or handicapped! Maybe they should be marketed as a personal spa or something!

I am a 75-year-old widow interested in a walk in bath. The salesman just left my house after a three hour visit The walk-in bath salesman just left my house after a three hour visit. I told him as he walked through the front door, I would not be signing any contract during this visit. I could tell he did not seem happy, but he continued his visit. Thankfully, I did a lot of researching on the Internet before the visit, so I kind of sort of knew what to look for. What he quoted me for demolition and removal of the old tub and installation of the new Kohler Jetted walk-in bath. The end price quote was $30,500. Give or take a few dollars. Because of the research I had done before his visit I felt pretty knowledgeable. But, I am back on the Internet again tonight and I found your site and everything that you have said about the sales tactics was spot on just as you stated. I can only say that as a vulnerable Elderly person I am glad I did my research and stood my ground. Since then I have spoken to one of my sons and several neighbors and I am looking into alternative purchase and installation. I will see where I go from here. I would just like to say thank you for your honesty and informative facts and figures.
The crazy thing is, their other people's goofball marketing is what steered me to your RU-vid channel. Thank you! About 2 years ago I started to look into walk-in tubs thanks to ads in AARP. Over the last 2 years I've been blasted by e-mails by various walk-in tub manufacturers. ( Good thing I used my "throwaway" e-mail account that I use for things destined to end with spam. ) Anyhow, thanks to all the marketing by these other companies it pushed "walk in tubs" up in the algorithm on anything connected to my profile to the point that one day RU-vid steers me to your channel and I finally hear the truth. Sorry, the issue is there is no way to clean inside the piping. That's what causes the issue according to Dr. Moyes. Without a way to mechanically remove build up (the way you clean to exposed surfaces) bio-film will develop.
@@wendyread1183 With non-jetted tubs, you will mechanically clean the surface with disenfectant and scrubbing. If you didn't you would also get a build up of biofilm around the tub perimeter (soap scum ring). The issue with jets that now you cannot get into the piping to perform the scrubbing with disenfectant and biomaterial grows. The longer a tub sits with the jets unused, the worse it gets, too.

Yes they are, so long as your talking about water jetted tubs or tubs with low end air systems. Purging the lines should not be required if water doesn't water the lines. Purging on our system is merely to dry and water drops at the jets. Ozone is effective, but not on a tub you fill and drain every time. It does not have time to disinfect according to the bacteriologists.

Very true Michael. The technologies work better on hot tubs because the water remains and can be treated over 24hours. With a personal bathing appliance... not so much.
Loved your informative video but you left out the number one thing. I really need to know.....cost I like many who have early injuries or diseases that struck early in life before we could earn a good living the bottom line is can we afford what we need many insurance companies as good as they are dont cover any of this
SOrry Dwight, just saw this. I couldn't agree more. Keep an eye out as I have several new videos in the pipeline that discuss cost, and why walk-in tubs seems so expensive. Bottom line, as of today, you will invest $10k-$15k depending on how much work is required to install. Medicare will not help, but if you are on Medicaid, you may be able to get financial help. Can you make a recommendation legitimate manufacturer and/or model of tub we should get? They seem to all make the same sales pitch. I would like to get one for my remodel but I am hugely suspicious because all want to walk into my home & give me a sales pitch. Lowe’s & Home Depot do not have any deploys in there stores and sales people tell me to call up. Well I don’t want to give them my phone number. That in itself is deeply suspicious.

At the present, no. However, Medicaid does in some states. The issue is that Medicare is primarily health insurance. If you are a disabled veteran, or have other disabilities, there may be some state and local grants and programs that might help you. Unfortunately, in the US today, we have to be prepared to self-pay for home modifications and that includes walk-in tubs.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS TUB....THIS COMPANY RUINED MY PARENTS BATHROOM....THEY PREY UPON SENIORS...MY PARENTS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THEIR BATHROOM SINCE THE DAY IT WAS INSTALLED THREE YEARS AGO!!! they keep promising they will fix it,,but the two technicians they sent say it is un fixable....it flooded the downstairs below.... I had NO idea they were going through all this trouble until just recently,,,how completely shameful that they preyed upon the fact that they knew that my elderly parents had no access to social media and disregarded the letters that they had written to the company. We will be taking legal action ,,,,it is incredible how they could charge $13,000.00 for the worst piece of garbage that was installed ...and even more astonishing how they can sleep at night knowing they are pushing this horrific nightmare of a product onto poor seniors!
