Hello! I’m The Pageant Nerd (real name: Roger). Welcome to your home of original content documenting the history, facts and stats in the world of beauty pageants, with a fresh and nerdy twist!
I typically focus on the history of Miss Universe and its affiliated national pageants but I occasionally branch out to cover more of the international and key national pageants.
I’m a huge Miss Universe fan and have been since the early 1980s. On this channel you’ll find historical, fact-based analysis of pageants past. I’m less about drawing comparisons, feeding into country rivalries and taking sides. I love the passion beauty pageant fans have, but dearly wish we could all communicate with each other respectfully, regardless of where we come from, who we cheer for and what our opinions are.
Views are my own and will never intend to offend. I respect your opinions and feedback if delivered politely!
PLEASE NOTE: I’m currently taking a break from creating new content 😘
I agree with the observation on Catriona. She was well-prepared. She even "worked a lot" in the slums of Tondo to have something to brag about. Even her answer was well-rehearsed, memorized.
Brazil winning in 1968 despite a weak and tentative answer compared to the smart & confident respinse of Curacao. Clearly, MU wasnt prepared to crown a woman of color that time
2022. Venezuela destroyed USA. And Texas should not have been USA in the first place - and the franchise owner lost her ownership in the process. That’s a lot of controversy for one year.
For me its always the 1995 miss universe. Manpreet brar was extremely intelligent, good looking and confident. I loved the way she graced the ramp as well as answered the questions. The final question she answered was just no second to any other. Listening her name for the first runner up was just heart breaking.
Better stop patronizing all those beauty pageant....the organizer are just money making, corrupting the mind's of a woman, don't all of us havents think and realized the true purpose of all those pageantry...better study, contribute to be a betterment of this world we live in...😅
hi pageant nerd, could you please dedicate a video about one-hit wonder countries that have won 1 miss universe crown but never managed to get another crown in years? like what could they do to win again, or how close they have been in getting a second crown. something about this topic.
26:29 ***Point of correction**** That format has not been in place since 2011... There was indeed a format change. The Miss Universe 2015 was the first to see a TOP 3, in many years.... The years 2011 to 2014 had top 5 and the ladies were announced runner up's from 4th to winner.... Also Osmel decision to end international training actually started in 1999, when he trained Miss Philippines Miriam Quiambao who placed first runner up and Venezuela never made it as a finalist. It was there he decided to end the international training; however, made an exception after all those years to train the Miss Dominican Republic, where he and the Country Director were good friends...
If you hear gossips about some queen's arrogant behavior, that gossip is most likely the truth. Many Miss Universe 2003 contestants claimed Amelia's behavior wasn't nice at all. A contestant of Miss Universe 2003 wrote about it in her memoir. And Miss Universe 1988 Porntip, and Miss Venezuela 2005 Zictzad treated their roomies horribly.
Philippines was right to win if you look at her Answer alone, she knocked it off the park. Her over all performance was also top notch. Also some contestants said that Colombia was a snob towards other non Latino country. The judges saw that beside from the answer portion, everyone knew already that Pia had the crown in the bag. Not to mention Ariadna always underestimated the other contestants and insulted Pia calling her a ghost during the prelims due to Pia being reserved and focused. She lost not because Steve made a mistake. She lost because she was not meant to win.
Catriona will beat them all flawlessly. As well as Pia. Catriona has the most sultry walk and whatever surprise questions you gave to her, she always speaks effortlessly with ease, confidence, & perfection. See how she also hosted the Miss Universe pageants. She's perfect whatever she speaks. She always knows how to use her facial expressions, voice tones, and actions in every words she says or hears with heart, poise, confidence, charm, & grace. Even in all those surpise or ambush interviews. She's always very confident and has the perfect response all the time. Also Pia & Brook. Therefore, the best Miss Universe in history are: 1.Catriona Gray- 100%. 2.Pia Wurtzbach- 99.9%. 3.Brook Lee- 98%.
So because that Venezuelan guru trained Ms. Dominican Republic 2003 that’s what made her win. That fact that she was beautiful, funny, talented and tall 6’2,”meant nothing?! In 2009 again DR v Venezuela. DR scored higher in every category so it was a “big” surprise that Ms. Venezuela “won.” Olivia Culpo shouldn’t have won. I’m glad Pia was the actual winner.
16:10 Did anyone notice that the 1974 Miss Universe sash's color scheme was exactly the same as Miss USA's national winner's sash? The letters were in blue, the background was white, while the trim was in red.
7:58 Nitpick: I still miss the iconic (YES I meant it) "Impact" font sash. It is way more readable and visually appealing compared to that "sustainable blah blah blah" sash replacement in 2022-- the font is way too narrow, thus you can barely read it from afar!
Looking back now since Miss Universe 2021, I still believe that Thailand deserved as spot in the first cut. We all believed she was credible enough to make it, especially with her being a real-size beauty. In fact, we FIL fans saw her as a big competition because Anchilee was as real, sincere, and assertive as she can be.
Ximena Navarrete,Dayana Mendoza,Paulina Vega,Zuleyka,Amelia Vega,Jennifer Hawkins,Oxana,y Natalie in my opinion the most beautiful and iconic MU of time❤❤
20:34 USA's silver fitted gown and hair updo for MU made her look "a little older" as compared to her hair-down-styling and black ball gown at MUSA which was way better IMHO as it encompassed her fun-free-spirited personality.
19:27 That defeats the purpose of one of MUO's (or any pageant for that matter) creed of fostering peace and understanding. The same issue with LEB and ISR also happened at Miss World 1993. 😞
18:00 Sweden's and Thailand's updo was, most likely, done to save up time for the eve gown round or, in some cases, maybe they had less than enough time to change hairstyles for eve gown since they had "less than 10 mins" (or was it 5?) to change.
As for clear winner rankings, not necessarily my favorite, but absolutely slayed the night no questions asked: 1. Alicia Machado Venezuela 2. Catriona Gray Philippines 3. Amelia Vega Dominican Republic 4. Denise Quinones Puerto Rico 5. Sheynnis Palacio Nicaragua 6. Zuleyka Rivera Puerto Rico 7. Oxana Federova Russia 8. Natalie Glebova Canada 9. R’Bonney Gabriel USA 10. Demi Leigh Nel-Peters South Africa
