Why drill a hole in the side of the building, install a conduit (which needs to be caulked), cut the wire, use the cut down block, and re-install the wire? Seems like a lot of wasted effort. You could have just put the intact wire through the hole and caulked THAT. No watertight box, no cutting the wire, no punch down. Am I wrong?
@@AdamRRose sure maybe . My way will last longer and looks more professional and also leaves access for expansion in the future . I usually think ahead and do things like this so down the road it is Much easier to add something like a camera .
@@IphoneMod Just ordered mine. Question, I can not see what all they are sending me. Do I need to purchase my own router? I live alone in a small 3 bedroom home, should I get a mesh router?
WAIT A MINUTE! Starlink only gets 3 Mbps upload speed? I was informed about 7-8, and Starlink claims 15 mbps upload. I can get 3 from Hughes Net or any satellite ISP.
Starlink prioritizes download speed as consumers typically don’t require much upload speed. If you upload lots of videos to RU-vid etc. then Starlink will struggle a bit with that.
Upload is limited because the hardware has to transmit the signal 500kms away to a low earth orbit satellite. Depending on the area you can get around 5mbps upload. @@juliensorel5535
@kyle-qw5yx Thank you. I noticed that later, but I did more research anyway. Starlink claims 15 mbps for my area, but other reviews find that the average speed is 7-8. Apparently it depends on exact location and can't be predicted until it is installed. 7-8 is good enough for me, so I bought it. It is installed. Tonight I will acquire service, and then I will find out for sure. Thank you for your comment, which I am sure was intended to be helpful rather than argumentative.
I appreciate this Helpful video. I think maybe a bolt that goes through the pole and the mount would keep it more stable from rotating in the bracket. I see the issues you have with the bracket being insufficient. Your fix works, but perhaps a welded piece of a L metal would give a better connection. But your fix looks Good!
Can anybody tell me or send a link how to do it on 2021 Model Y. Besides, I did charge on Flo on the original one. I couldn’t charge at EVgo. Tesla asks $450 but I think it’s too much.
I used my old Dish ground installation pole, and the roof mount kit fit into it as if it had been made for it. The Starlink fitting is not very sturdy, so I like having it down where I can keep track of how it is holding up.
Yes a NVR is required, just be sure it is compatible, that info can be found on the product page on lorex's website. This camera does not come with one.
Yes in some ways it could have been, although the way I wanted to completely seal the mount would not have been possible with the design of the mount that SpaceX sells and would also still require a pole to mount making this method cheaper as well.
How did you splice the cable. I haven't seen the cable yet but just ordered 150' of it. Did use data cable end and a coupler. I was told you can't cut it or extend it.
The Starlink cable is pretty much a Ethernet cable and can just be spliced as such. Although I wouldn’t extend it, I just cut and reconnected it so I could get the cable through a weather proof seal.
That is a very interesting video, thanks for taking so much trouble. One question, any idea of the latency speed of your set up please? By your accent you live in Canada. I live in North West France in a very rural area. The internet reception is CR*P so hence I am looking at Starlink. Like many people who have similar connection problems I also make how to videos for RU-vid. The last 18 minute video I made took me over 5 hours to upload!!!! So I need to do something about this. Plus I have a stone built house and some 25 meters away a stone built office and I need internet connection in both. From my research so far I have come up with a pole mounted antenna on the office outer wall above roof height then a feed into the office and from the office via an existing underground ethernet cable (via an ethernet adapter) into the house. Does that sound like it might work? Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
The latency is very similar to other RU-vid starlink test videos, although it has been pretty inconsistent in my area lately for unknown reasons… possibly more network saturation due to the special offer they have been offering. Yes I am in Canada. That sounds good, just make sure you understand your limitations with what you get with your starlink.. lack of Ethernet ports etc. unless you purchase the adapter.
A further question, if I may. Is there any way I can actually find out what the delivery time of a Starlink kit please? The idea of clicking on a button and ordering, giving my credit card info, then possibly be given a delivery date does not appeal to me. This is not as if this is some high end car or a new private jet, is it. I also make "how to" videos to help the folks out there and I need a faster internet connection. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Tony Hillyard
I have a 2021 USA Model Y that was delivered to me with "CCS adapter support: Not Installed". A couple of days ago I put in a service request for the $450 Tesla mobile service installed update that included the CCS-1 adapter. Tesla messaged back that the update was only available for S and X's and to try again later in the year. Yesterday I drove to the Tesla Service Center (on Long Island, NY) to find out the real story. The rep said he didn’t know why, and then went in back and brought out the correct new ECU board ($140) but said I’d have to purchase the Tesla CCS adapter online ($175). Yesterday I installed the board using your video as a guide, thank you. Getting to the ECU's location required a lot more disassembly on a Model Y than shown on your Model 3, but doable in an hour including the software refresh, and "CCS adapter support:Enabled" showed on my car info screen. I tried charging on my home charger with success. I then went online to the Tesla store to purchase the adapter, but was flagged that my car required retrofit before I could purchase one. Today, after several negative tries to purchase the adapter online, I set out to go to the Tesla service center to see if they could assist. On the way, I stopped to supercharge just to make sure that function still worked. Just after charging, I tried once more at the Tesla store online on my iPad so that I could show the rejection screen to the tech at service. This time, there was no rejection and my order was placed! I am not a believer in coincidence…I assume that my Tesla communicated its updated ECU status to Headquarters while supercharging. Thank you very much for your clear video walkthrough, I would likely have not attempted this project without it. Saved: $135 and an unknown amount of wait time.
these are nice cameras, but they seriously cheeped out on the cable coming out of them and the rj45 jack. im in mn and 2 out of 5 failed in about 2 years outside. corroded pins on the rj45 female jack. so i chopped it off and found tiny aluminum stranded wires that are probably bellow spec for cat5 let alone cat 5e or better. With the help of my soldering station I was able to take a cat 5e splice box, desolder the wire forks, tin the camera wires, solder them to the pcb for the splicer then for good measure soldered cat 6 to the other side. If the silicon i shot in to the splice box doesnt eat the pcb we should probably get a few more years out of this one... but what a pain in the ass
Does the fan to your power supply stay powered on when you shutdown your NVR via the drop down menu option or when using the button on front of the device?
I haven’t charged on a charger capable of more than 150KW with the CCS Adapter yet and that was just for testing it. I bought the adapter more for a backup Incase I get into a situation where there aren’t any Tesla Superchargers available to me which has not happened ..
I think the main issue was that people were reporting that it doesn't boot back up automatically after the battery is exhausted. Have you had a chance to test this out yet?
Thanks for the video, I noticed the service manual said you can reinstall software in service mode. It would make sense as mobile service wouldn’t necessarily have a copy of the latest software for each of the models on them.
How much did you have to pay for customs/duty and have you had a chance to charge at a low SoC? If so, what's the maximum power you got from the L3 charger?
I paid $70 for customs/duty. I have not had a chance to charge at low SoC yet. My main purpose for having this adapter is for peace of mind and a back up as I do plan on using superchargers for the majority of road trip charging.
Some setting are different on my iPhone than on my monitor for example I don’t see the term threshold instead I see delay on my app, so would that be it? Man I’m confused 😐
I just purchased the n4k3-168wb-1 16ch 8 camera set. I also have a rack in the house and prewired cat cables all over the property going to the rack. I'm looking forward to the install and use of this cool system..
For anyone looking for more advanced setups, this UPS does not function properly with NUT. It will connect to the software but only reboots the UPS on low battery. Shutdown delay doesnt work either. I ended up having to return this UPS and bought a APC back-ups pro and a rack shelf
Thanks for the info. Just unboxed mine - same unit. Wasn't sure if the side panel brakets would support the weight. Looks like yours installed and stayed okay. I noticed mine powered up, then shut down when I plugged it in. Hold the power button for one second, also powered up, then off. Hold the power button for two seconds +, beeps and powers up.
Just regular pvc electrical conduit. In terms of sizing , 1/2 inch is more than enough or depending on how many wires you are running you can up it to 3/4 , but it’s all really dependent on your situation.
Okay this is very helpful thank you. It seems like you bought the NVR and cameras separately. I'd like to as well, but the kits they sell are just way more affordable (I'm looking at the 8 channel), and if anything I can set the 4K camera to record in 5MP in smaller areas, so it'll eat less at my storage. The NVRs are expandable up to 6/8 TB, but I think you have to replace your existing HDD and end up spending a couple hundred for that. My 1st question is, how long does your current NVR (I assume 4TB?) save your footage before overwriting? And is there a way to set the cameras to record at a lower resolution 24/7, but in 4K when it detects motion? (EDIT: NO) Their boring alphanumeric camera names are not helpful at all, and on their website I can't even find the fps of their cameras. It's very difficult to compare their current lineup of cameras.
Thank you! If you have any other information you think would be useful just let me know and I could possibly make a video of it. Currently working on an “installing a security camera” video
