Hello, and welcome to Flying Bobbins Tutorials. Learn to sew a variety of projects with me by your side. I will take you through each stage of the sewing process, sharing tips and techniques as I go - all helped by my furry, four legged helper Kira, who makes a regular guest appearance. You can find the supplies needed for the projects featured at my online sewing boutique FlyingBobbins.com.
Hi I just watched your tutorial to make the Indigo dress and I am thinking on making the indigo dress for the Autumn with double gauze. But I want to know what is your width and length of your table top. Thank Jessica
Thanks so much for this. I have been scratching my head for hours on this step and found how you laid the two legs side by side before posting one into the other so helpful. I wasn't clear about what you meant about the seams at the fork. Do you have them all two pieces together (so four on top of each other)? If so to the back of the trousers? Thanks again.
@@debbieellen5822 thank you Debbie. I’m pleased I was able to help. You just need to line up the seams where the inside leg seams meet the crotch seams 😊
@@erylmaunder4085 www.flyingbobbins.com/pages/sew-along-club here’s a link to learn more. It’s £10 per month and you get a full sew along plus discounts on kits and patterns. Please let me know if you have any questions xx
Thank you very much. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the sew along. This is a great dress. Since filming these videos I have launched a Sew Along Club, so I can send you a link to that if you would like a new tutorial to follow each month. Otherwise, I have done a few tutorials and projects that you may like on RU-vid - The Charlie Caftan tutorial is quite a popular one. Liz xx
Just wanted to say thank you for this series. After an initial disaster, I've made four lovely dresses that are perfect for work and one is also a bit more special. I put side seam pockets in them all. For the second one onwards, I narrowed the skirt to take some of the fullness out. Your instructions helped this rusty sewer so much!
Hello, I just made one , a dress, but I got really confused looking for the right size. Well, mine is too small (will give it) and I'm on for a new one way bigger. What would you advise?
My goodness, your videos are awesome/well-explained. I've been sewing for many years but had a question about the construction/cutting out on the bodice pieces and I feel totally confident that I'll be able to make the most amazing Caftan for my trip to Hawaii. Thank you so much!!!
So I just followed everything step by step, went to try on the bodice before I sewed the side seams and it barely fits over my head - I can only get it on if I tug and scrape off all my makeup 😭
Oh dear. That doesn’t sound right. Have you sewn the facing on? As this has a 1.5cm seam allowance this will open the neckline by 3cm have you trimmed the seam allowance away?
@@FlyingBobbinsTutorials thanks, I had already done that, following your guidance and the printed instructions step by step. I also realised that the side seams would be very snug. Luckily I had 3m of fabric and there was enough left to cut another bodice in a size 5 (even though a 3 is a size 10 and I'm a size 10!) I widened the neck opening a little and made new facing pieces and the finished dress looks good although I had to do a little jiggery pokery to make a size 5 bodice fit a size 3 skirt. I'm just going to make the next one in a size 5 and maybe trim the skirt a little so it's less full. I put side seam pockets in mine (I agree that your spotty one would look better without the patch pockets) and I think on reflection they are a little too high so I will move them down a few inches on my next dress - I bought enough fabric to make 4 dresses!
I'm really out of practice with dressmaking but your instructions are super clear, thank you. Once I've bought some fabric I'll get started straight away.
Thank you so much for this sew along! I learned a lot doing this with you! Yours turned out gorgeous! All I need to do is the hemming of the sleeves and the dress!
Thank you so much for this series. You provided very clear and easy to follow instructions - thank you! I’m excited to start sewing my first Charlie caftan!
Hi Thanks your great videos. I am making the ruched sleeve version and i have an original pattern and it is showing the elastic stitching line start point but not the point to where the elastic stitching line. There is nothing printed on the pattern ? Am i being stupid Meryl x
Hello Meryl, There is no such thing as a stupid question 🙂. I'll have to dig out my pattern to take a look, it was a while ago that I made this top! Liz xx
Hello and thank you for the tutorial. I have the following query: I will sew some aprons and will use stainless steel D-rings. As these are fabrics, they will definitely need to be washed in the washing machine. I have been told not to use a stainless steel D-ring in the washing machine because it will rust. I'm a bit confused. I would like to have your opinion as well. Thank you for your time and help.
Hello Annita, thank you for your question. I have had my apron for a while now and it has been in and out of the wash without a problem. The D-Rings I use are by Prym. They are made from 100% zinc die-cast, rustproof material. Hand washing is suggested by the manufacturer, but I find that a gentle, low temperature cycle on the washing machine is fine. Liz 🙂
Great question 😊. In fact several of the fabrics I used to make these bags had a print with a right and wrong way up. So I cut into two pieces so that the print (little tulips ect) were all facing the correct way on both sides of the bag. ❤
Her tutorials are amazing. I bought the overlocker pattern (my first time making anything like this) and it came out amazingly by following her video. I am now going to make the sewing machine version.
Hello. Yes, I think you could replace the neck facing with a bias binding. I’d probably do this at the same step as you would have done the facing - that way you don’t have a large piece of fabric to handle as you attach the binding. But you could also do it at the end if you wanted. Happy sewing! Let me know how you get on. Liz
