I just watched a man just heave a mast to upright. I am shook. I've been scared of raising the mast on my hunter 23 with a gin pole since it has so much sway, but if i can just pick it the f up im going sailing every weekend.
It's not hard to just raise it up by hand, but it's two of us on the boat. My buddy goes forward and secures the forestay. We tried it with the gin pole, but it just takes too long. With the two of us we are usually rigged, launched and tied up in 15-20 min.
wow! im too scared to untie the boat until the ballast fills. lucky for me i have piers next to the ramps i use so its tied up. mission bay looks like fun, i sail in honolulu.
Hey Brian, I am about to do a Warrior Dash next weekend and I was thinking of bringing my go pro. What did you do? Strap to your head or what? Would you recommend it?
Hi Natalie. I wore the head strap. I saw people with the chesty but there are too many obstacles you have to crawl/squeeze through. I just took it off when running between the obstacles. It was no problem. Good luck with the Warrior Dash.

Do you have trouble with your jib sheets getting stuck under the lower front of the mast where the rotation limiter tabs are? As for the trampoline, I got a SLO trampoline for my 81 prindle with ports, and the trampoline is absolutely wonderful. Definitely worth getting the zipper pocket extra too. My only complaint is that there are no sacrificial patches on the top of the trampoline where the jibsheet blocks chafe the trampoline.
Peter Jorgensen I do have issues with the jib sheets getting stuck. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does I just turn into the wind, undo the jib sheet and then get back on course. Thank for the info on the SLO tramp, good to know.
Brian Strawter Yes, I usually just grab the boom and crank the mast back and forth gently while I pull the sheet out by hand. I think I'm going to rivet an eyelet on the front of the mast and rig an elastic chord to keep the sheets out of the way of the mast.
Use a shock cord and make a preventer. The sheet will lie against the cord and won't ever get jammed. Tie it outboard on the each side of the dolphin striker and then pull it up and over the goose neck fitting for the boom. I owned one 20 years ago and I think that's right. For sure on the striker, not 100pct on the gooseneck fitting.
That was a good day last September. What's funny is that the yellow hulled prindle with the blue,yellow, and white sails is mine! The wife and daughter were with me that day. Didn't expect to see that! LOL
That was a great day of sailing. It's always fun seeing another cat sailor. That was my second time learning how to sail, since then I've taken the wife and kids out there too. I'm sure we will run into each other at some point!
Great footage for all three. Especially like the loading of the bike before we sailed. The wide angle lens makes Big Rock look like the Big Stone....El Capitan. Next up, underwater footage.....
I have used one, but not in the surf. It could handle the surf for sure, just make sure you have that mirage drive leashed in. Wouldn't want to have to pony up for a new one if you flip it and the drive gets knocked out.
I'm not sure of the trampoline, it's the one that came with the cat. I did use their youtube video to help figure out how to re-lace it. When I need a new one I'm getting a SLO.
