In the Suzuki shop where I worked, we sold hundreds of TS185's and a lesser number of TS250s also. As teenagers we all rode small sized two stroke trail bikes as there were many off road places to ride. Although the smaller 175/185 bikes perform very well on the flat, when it comes to hills, their performance suffers. The 250's had superior torque and top speed with the torque being very useful on steep hills. These bikes having multiple cylinders of roughly 175cc and 250 cc display this difference when listening to them accelerate away. The 500 does sound nice and smooth and goes very well. The 750 is much meatier and accelerates a little bit quicker. Both great bikes. Arigato for showing the Japanese garage and bikes. Much enjoyed.
Thank you for sharing your valuable experience for me. Few TS185 were imported to Japan until recently. also The TS250 series were very popular in Japan It was loved by off-road riders in the 1970s.
The Kawasaki triples are super special motorbikes indeed. I love their sound and looks and performance. But my favourite two stroke has to be the Yamaha TDR250. I love the concept of this motorbike and the one in this garage has such a beautiful exhaust system. 😍
Yamaha just hit the bullseye with it's later two strokes. My big brothers LC350 was so great. Light, fast, stopped, handled and wasn't noisy or thirsty. Agree 100%, the TDR is nice. Imagine how great a TDR500 twin would have been ??
On my brothers Suzuki GT750, the points ignition would become out of adjustment, and performance would degrade. Kawasaki fitted electronic ignition early on to stop this problem. The over- oilyness from all these bikes comes from the air cooled nature which requires lubrication to prevent piston seizure when new. They were really an unfavourable design. Cheap to make, and reliable but environmentally and economically unfriendly.

Were these not that popular in Japan? I don't see many videos of them over there like the other motorcycles of the time. I have this same one, 1977 D model with this beautiful 3-1 exhaust. Love this bike. Just gave it a wash today!
I love the classics. When the manufacturers built exotic, small motorbikes that go, look and sound fantastic above all else. These days, small motorbikes aren’t built to be exotic and inspiring, just cheap and practical.
