The UN has issued numerous reports documenting violations of basic human rights and imposed sanctions against the dictatorial regime of Eritrea. But, despite these actions, the regime continues to employ its divide-and-rule policy, build new prison cells, exporting Eritrean refugees in mass, illegally recruit young Eritreans, and destabilize the region. This indicates that the United Nations has not yet found an effective solution. Consequently, the Eritrean dictator not only ignores the UN's rules and regulations but also aims to reshape the global order to further his dictatorial ambitions. In short, I hope the UN takes decisive action before the regime collapses by expelling Eritrea from UN membership, sending home all its ambassadors, and completely shutting down the regime's annual events that promote disunity among the Eritrean diaspora.
We have witnessed Russia's increasing military presence in Massawa, Eritrea, supported by dictator Isaias Afewerki. Whether a similar setup exists in Assab remains to be seen. Assab saw the UAE dismantle its military base in 2021, which included a hospital. As Eritrea is akin/ትኽኽክል to a large container prison, the majority of Eritreans are unaware of the UAE's former military base. The bigger issue is that Eritreans still do not know how many secret military bases are currently present or how many have been closed, like the UAE's. For example, there is a secret Israeli military base on Emba Soira in Akkele Guzay. Additionally, there is the Badme pact, remindful of the Treaty of Wuchale (ውዕሊ/ኪዳን ናይ ውጫለ). This secret deal was also between Isaias Afewerki and the TPLF. It was a covert military agreement to unite against the ELF. Eritrean traders recall, "When the ELF controlled Badme, we paid taxes to them as we moved to and from Ethiopia. After the ELF was ousted, we had to pay taxes to the TPLF as directed by the EPLF." So, IA’s secret treaties, Kagnew Station, Badme, Assab, Emba Soria, etc. are in question/ባእሲ.
