Sooo.. one of the drag items I have wondered about is.. As the speed of the line going out increases does the heat on the drag/resistance discs increase or decrease drag?
Actually that is a really good question. To the best of my knowledge and please is anyone has proof to prove me different I’d be happy to listen but from my understanding I always thought as the drag played heat up the drag will increase. This is also why you want to try and heat up your drag and reels before pulling drag on a drag scale. So the answer I have is it increases however I don’t think it matters as much as other elements at play like spool diameter and amount of line in the water of you get to a heat up stage both of those elements would be playing a bigger role at that point.
@@waterman241 I have been able to take a lot of techniques from your videos and apply them in the Gulf of Mexico. My family has a 65 custom sportfish and I have learned so much about running a boat and a proper lure spread just from your videos. I’m 22 and currently in law school but I have been a mate in the Gulf since I started college in 2021. I just wanted to let you know how helpful your videos are and how much I have learned from watching you
Man, I've been missing out on all the action because notification wasnt on.got ur video in suggested videos and im like damn! its been a while since ive seen some ation from you😂 greetings from jamaica
Hell yeah !! Glad you got it. Yeah I’ve been super busy but I have a few good episodes lined up should be dropping new ones every week or bi week at the most over the next month or so. Appreciate you watching !!!!
Greatly enjoy you vudeos! a friendly tip , invest in a couple of microfones . DJI with a wind muff will greatly improve the audio, not that expensive. The second say of the video can hardly hear anything . Greeat work !
I would suspect most people do this to keep constant pressure on the fish, not increased pressure. But honestly first I’ve heard of that tactic. Cool video!
This might be a dumb statement and please correct me if it is but I think dragging helps because the fish is fighting back against the boat and the continued momentum is to tire it out not to hurt it or get the hook in it more
How's it!! Hope you've been enjoying fishing lately. Watching a video from off the kona coast, I noticed how beautiful the weather was, looking in towards the island and how crisp and clear the atmosphere was!!!! Often typical for kona, especially in the mornings. The detail you can make out looking all the way up to.the 14,000 ft peaks of maunaloa and maunakea is just incredible!!!! Just wanted to mention that over the decades I lived in kona and was fishing, this included the 1982/83 eruptions of maunaloa and shortly after, kilauea and then the new Pu'u O'o vent and cinder cone and spectacular 1000 ft plus high lava fountains, which turned into a 20 year long plus erruption phase of pretty much continuous lava flowing!!!! With the normal trade winds weather, all of the volcanic haze ends up in kona including out off the ocean, and so for pretty much 20+ years we had "vog" or haze constantly! The views that are normally stunning as you can see so far off in the distance with clear weather, common to kona, we're thi k with vog, so bad, that you couldn't even see the island from sea only 5 miles or much less offshore!!! I know what it's normally like and how amazing the clarity is, but for all those years, kona was just inundated with vog!!!! Your stoked that it's not like that anymore, but whenever the volcano errupts, the vog ends up in kona w/in a day or two!!! But, the eruptions over the last 20 years have not been long lived so you enjoy beautiful weather most all the time. Those 20 years from 83, I was always really stoked to get far away from kona in the strong trade winds and breathe fresh air and see so far again!!!! Just brought me back to so many years throughout my life fishing off the big island seeing so much changes with the eruptions and of the landscape especially in Puna!!! Sounds like the magma is moving a lot under ground over the last days, indicating a potential eruption event coming again soon!! The island is alive!!!! Enjoy it!!! Thx again and tight lines and good fishing !!! Aloha D.L.
Thanks for sharing ! Yeah the last couple years we have had crazy clear sky’s it’s really nice when that vog lightens up. I guess the vog also keeps it from getting to crowded here too so I guess kinda a catch 22. Enjoyed reading your comment thanks for posting that
great video but lets kill the language a bit when you post it on the internet, cant let my kids see your videos with the foul language. please and thank you
I’m very sorry. I’m usually pretty good at catching the bad words when I edit and getting them taken out. Apologies I’ll have to do a better job there. We will be more vigilant for sure. Thanks for watching and apologies for any foul language.
Striped marlin Australia, we're definately jumping less off after making the change from double to singles. We're also running swinging singles which is a bit unconventional
I just came across your videos and page and yes, sending you praise and support for all your hard work on educating us! I've been twice to Kona and when I come back again I'm definitely booking a charter to shake your hand in person! 🎣💪🏽
Thank you !! That really means alot that not only did you enjoy watching. But took the time to write that comment and give some appreciation. This is a big reason I do this, comments like that make it worth it all. Thank you sir for the motivation to keep making these episodes and I really appreciate the follow !!! Happy fishing
Dude, put out some more videos. I like to listen and see some of those fishing trips. You’ve been on all over. I like to meet up in Kona sometime when I’m down there I mostly fish out of Honolulu with Darren.
Thank you for the comment and working on some new episodes now. We just about to start up a pretty hectic run of charters non stop til September so I’m really looking forward to producing some great content coming forward. Really appreciate you taking the time to write that comment and enjoying. The videos. Means a lot man, I don’t make any money off these videos etc so gettin to see the appreciation from people who enjoy them makes it all worth it. Thanks a lot !
Well good news, with a mindset like that those are problems you’ll probably Never have. You’re like the guy who says “must be nice” to someone successful without any idea of all the other things going on and the hard work and sacrifices made by the individual . Understand that For a lot of us it’s a job and how we make a living. The captains and crews in this industry are Def not “rich”. Most of us barely can get by but do it for a passion and a love of the ocean and our craft. Yes to be a boat owner at a higher level you need alot of money but there are plenty plenty fisherman in the islands too who are not “rich” and who do this for food and for sport both. Just be a bit more learned in it all before being the “must be nice” guy unless that’s just who you are and the mindset you choose to adopt and make a pattern of. Either way thanks for watching and commenting !
Hi Chris hope you keep making these video's. I love them always waiting for a new one. Wich sundowner do you prefer the keelweighted one or the one without? Regards Eddie
Thank you. That Means a lot we should have some good ep starting to drop soon now that we are fishing a bunch then next couple months. As per sundowner I’ve done good on both but for me the non weighed one is best and my big fish magnet
We use what are called outriggers basically goat piles on either side of the boat with release clips and then we also space the lures at diffrent lengths. It seems chaotic but it is actually all very much set and orchestrated to go really smooth
Howzit, liking your vids, great info too. This is Billy, always around the docks fishing for akule with my 3 dogs, also shout out to Nick for blessing me from time to time with some nice slabs. Those dive charters who do that in the middle of the harbor are idiots or driving out the left side to harass the honu sleeping on the rocks ignoring basic boating rules is out of control, they need to be given citations,Aloha
Nice to meet you Billy. Come say hi sometime. How’s fishing for you ? Hope you been catching. As per dive boats Yup I agree the dive boats hire out of town kids to run their boats. They here a couple years then gone must have no idea what’s going on. Is what it is just drives you a little crazy when they do silly things like. All the best and thank you for watching and for the comments !! Appreciate ya
I agree with you 💯 on the doing your own thing. Off NJ if people see 1 picture of a tuna they think it's on fire and every noodle ends up in the same area doing nothing. I always try to keep as far from people as possible and my results always speak for themselves. In late July we start to get a decent mahi bite usually and the amount of idiots becomes too much. And they always show up around 8am and miss the good bite. Then you got 3 boats fighting each other for a spot on 1 lobster pot bouy that there's no fish on 😂. Where as I'm there an hour before 1st light and am usually limited out and onto something else 😂😆😂. That was a beautiful fish. Be glad you don't have to run 90 miles to the Continental shelf for a shot at a blue like we do. We get white Marlin occasionally about 30 miles offshore but it's rare.
Yup. I feel ya on that. It’s much Better to find your own bite then chase it. A lot more fulfilling to know you hunted and succeeded on the bite by using the elements then just running to where everyone is turning on a machine and connecting the dots around people. It’s getting kinda crazy here with that crap but it’s a very big ocean and fish have tails so plenty of big fish spots. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Happy fishing to you buddy
Nice fish Capt, congrats! Aloha Sundowner strikes again. Also - if I might add - one of the benefits for you of doing these videos is acquiring new charter clients. At least that's how I found you. I happened upon one of your videos randomly in 2022, watched it, loved it, kept watching more videos, and then booked with you. Not sure how many other clients you acquire in that manner, but I would imagine some maybe. Anyway, keep up the good work and tight lines!
Awesome video !!! Been fishing the Bahamas for about 25 years. One of the best rum induced nights I've ever had was at Walkers after a horror show of a crossing from Port St. Lucie.
I don’t really drink much anymore at all but one night after the tournament we got into the rum and boy oh boy was that a hell of a night haha. From what I remember it was a really good time haha.
